<0> hi all
<0> i have a question please
<1> ask away
<0> problem with a hard drive
<0> after a virsu has infected
<0> my PC
<0> i have reformatted the hard drive
<0> but it has failed
<0> so it is not recognize anymore
<0> by the BIOS
<1> check the jumpers?
<0> i didnt move them at all
<0> it tells me
<0> that a serious problem has occured
<0> so windows has stopped everytinh
<0> g

<1> you get to the point where you reinstalled the OS?
<0> yep
<1> so the drive boots?
<0> so i m out now
<0> i dont know
<0> the only thing i know
<1> does windows come up, or does something else happen?
<0> is that even as a slave
<0> it is not recognized
<0> no
<0> i have a black screen
<0> when it computes the size of memory, ...
<0> then i have a blue screen
<0> with a windows error
<0> it tells me to remove viruses from the HD
<0> but its funny
<0> i can't boot
<0> on it
<0> nor recognize it as a slave
<1> have your windows CD ROM right?
<0> yes
<1> boot to that, and goto recovery console
<0> from memory i tried
<0> but i m not sure
<1> you want to use the FIXBOOT command
<1> follow this KB article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314058
<1> the command is about 3/4 the way down the page
<1> after that, you want to use FIXMBR
<1> scratch the FIXMBR, see what FIXBOOT does for you.
<0> yes
<0> somebody tells me i can use these commands
<0> but how can I type them??
<0> at what time i am able to type something
<0> ?
<1> you started the Windows Recovery Console?
<0> no
<0> its on this PC
<0> :)
<0> so lets start again please
<0> i put the windows CD on the drive
<0> then i boot on it
<1> you're on the PC that has the hard drive problem?
<0> then?
<0> yes
<1> http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314058
<0> but with another drive
<1> first go there and print that out.
<0> explain me please
<0> i dont have a printer
<0> and will be confused again
<0> with irrelevant informations
<0> then i started on the CD
<0> it asks me if i want to install or repair
<0> windows
<1> repair
<0> doesnt it?
<0> then?
<1> correct
<1> press 1 for the windows installation
<0> ok
<0> then?

<1> you'll need your original administrator p***word
<0> when should i type
<0> the commands
<0> FIXMBR
<0> ...
<1> you'll have a prompt after you type the p***word
<1> and i would use the FIXBOOT C: command at that point
<2> Hi..I have a MacBook, and I have Windows XP installed on it using Bootcamp. But it is not activated and won't let me logon to xp as it needs to be activated 1st. I have just ordered Windows Vista and I am now able to download it straight from the Internet. Can I do this without activating windows XP?
<1> you can't choose to activate it later?
<2> yes i can...but when I choose that it just logs off and gives me the option to either Shut down or log back on
<2> I think the 60days have p***ed
<2> The person i bought the laptop off, he installed xp but didnt activate it
<2> and he said he doesnt have any activation key
<2> but I do have vista available to download
<2> is there any way to do it without activating xp?
<1> understood, i'm no bootcamp expert, but can't you just trash that installation of XP and just install vista to it?
<3> is AWAY (Reason: goooooooooooneeeee ZZZZzzzZZZZzzz) (Since: 23:34:27) (Pager: on) (Logger: on)
<2> nope, because to install Vista with bootcamp, you need to have xp installed 1st then you install vista (from what ive heard)
<1> try this: http://blogs.msdn.com/hans_vb/archive/2006/06/02/614799.aspx
<1> Vista is an ISO file?
<2> whats ISO?
<1> ISO is a CD/DVD image file
<2> ye i think it is
<1> you will have to mount that as your CDROM, somehow.
<1> like i said, i'm no bootcamp expert :)
<2> okk
<2> thanks
<1> hopefully you have the Mac disks to repair your OSX installation
<1> the Vista might screw things up a bit. if you get that figured out. its not technically supported yet.

<6> I ran a project in Bryce 6.0 on these systems and the times came out as followed, P4 2.4Ghz [Northwood] 20:49, a dual 1Ghz [coppermine] 26:28, a P4 1.7 [Willamette] 29:02, and a 1.13 P3 [Taulatin] 20:26
<6> the tualatin is the only chip that would seem to have 16KBytes of L1 data and 16KBytes of L1 code could this be why?
<6> ok cool so where else might i ask

<13> any idea chalcedony?
<14> I'm pretty sure the upgrade will be linked to to the coa
<14> they will have forseen such an eventuality
<14> I expect if you try running the upgrade on your machine, it will tell you pretty early on that its not possible
<13> mmmm bad luck!! i wanted to upgrade mine , i was happy about the free upgrade
