<0> In a peer network, SAM authentication is done using whatever account you are currently logged in with <0> If you made a matching account on the remote PC: <1> i did the only diference is on my client poc the user is a simple user on the server its admin <0> which OS you using? <1> windows 2000 <1> original ofcorse <1> :D <0> then why use the term 'simple users'? <1> its not a restricted user <1> its not an administrator <1> its a simpole user <1> :) <0> ok <1> the main thing is to trick steam to think its not runing from a fileserver <1> :D <1> and start in doesnt help
<0> why? <0> Why not just get it to work <0> That would be easier :) <1> i cant get it to work without a network drive <1> :| <1> i made the short cuts <0> you said *i* <0> this IS a help channel <1> :) <1> well <1> Master Yoda <1> your humbeld pupel is listening <1> :P <0> Your humble teacher is waiting for the details; <1> Steam is on what i like to call a file server <1> i need it to run on 14 pc from the same server <1> so i make the icon <1> i set run in <1> i start the game <0> what? <0> oooh, Steam <0> what's ah... Half-Life etc <1> and it says Steam.exe(main exepetion:) cannot run Steam from network staff <0> You want to run the game from 14 different PCs <1> Path* <1> its a netcafe <0> Yeah, you shouldn't anyway; That will put strain on the CPU. <1> i know <0> And if they do multiplayer; alot of the bandwidth will be chewed up by RUNNING the game. <0> WHy don't you copy it to them all?!?! <1> 100 mb switches will do <1> right <1> license <1> :| <1> its a cafe <0> ah <0> Licences, yes <1> besides <1> anyway only 10 users can access it at once <0> access the share? <1> but i think the 100 mb/sec will work it <0> which OS is the 'serber'? <1> yes <0> do you? <0> Good luck <1> yes <1> i need that <1> and some help <1> :P <0> You sure do. <1> every comp is win 2000 <0> Do you have ANY idea of how fast a game needs to access its files? <0> In a game like that, it need to access LARGE files, quickly. <1> is that a retoical question? <0> It doesn't have time to wait for slow SMB. <0> No, it's a real question. <1> good <1> cuz i dont <1> :P <0> You're trying to do something unrealistic <0> I can tell.
<1> well <1> im runing MOHA <1> and some other ganmes <1> like this <1> in multiplayer <1> and it is working just fine <1> :| <0> what game is that? <1> 5-6 clients at once <1> Medal of Honor <0> ah ok <0> that's quite a big game too <0> Ok, maybe I'm wrong... <0> and the game will still run fine <1> for once i hope u are <1> :) <0> heh <1> so how to trick steam? <0> beats me <1> ok then how to trick it to think its not a network path <1> ? <1> if network drive freezez my user :| <0> Firstly, <0> make the network drive work <0> Choose one of the methods mentioned before <1> it works <0> Ok <1> under the admin user <1> and i can still acces the nwtwork <1> normaly <1> under the simple user <1> but when i define a new network drive <1> it freezez <2> new drive to the same server? <1> yes, i jusrt press map network drive define it game works, i reboot go to my normal level username <1> it freezez at Restoring Netowk Conections <0> yeah, the username used to MAKE the smb share is not saved after reboot. <1> but <1> its the same username <1> like u sayed <0> same p***word? <1> no p***word <0> blank p***words aren't allowed in SMB sharing <0> =) <1> it works when im browsing the network <0> suppose you'll tell me now that it works anyway <1> :| <2> uh actually it is.. <1> yes it dose :) when im not useing a a network drive <1> i can still access the remote pc <0> ok <0> just not for mounting <2> so if I understand it right; you map a drive as admin, reboot and try a different user and then it doesent work... <0> mm, no <1> aham <0> If you map a drive as admin, you must eith p*** those credentials at each bootup (batch file) <1> then one sec ols <0> sure <2> Intuitive: access-rights you think? <2> or just autentication-issues? <0> DiCeR, no <0> authentication issues <0> I.E - This is a PEER network, not a domain <2> better have him double check actual usernames and p***words on both sides. <0> and authentication to the SAM, through SMB must be done at startup <0> Yeah; <0> the account which you are logged on as will, by default, be sent to remote PCs when mapping <0> so either have a duplicate account, or make a b*tchy batchy and send 'em <2> yep. Might risk to have double-credentials to the "server" if he uses user-switching, but thats a different error-message.. <2> btw - I sorted my WinXP unattended sysprep issue. <0> oh good <2> dont know why MS changed the Sysprep too, but ... who know why they do anything.. <2> too=tool
