<0> i got a linksys modem/router thingy catching dust here and i thought i could just use it as a switch, so i want to disable any layer3 stuff, is there an easy way to do this?
<0> don't wanna spend money on a hub/switch :P
<0> i disabled dhcp in it and still getting constant disconnects
<1> as long as it's not p***ing dhcp, and your pointing to it as your default route, you'll be fine
<0> as far as i see it, this adsl modem thing is a modem, connected to a routing function, which is routed to my home network, with a built in switch/hub (is it a hub?) why is there no way to disable the modem/routing function :\

<0> i mean, if it acts on layer 2 it should have nothing to do with routing
<2> hmmn, can someone point me in the right direction... I have 2 cable modems(two different services) that I want to Bridge to make 1 connection, also a linksys router, and a switch... Is it possible to bridge the two modems with windows?
<3> there are routers that can support that
<4> ........load balancing :)
<2> I can do it on Linux.. but I don't have any clue with win XP, I never use it lol
<1> hrm
<1> somehow I doubt that
<3> xp doesn't come with load balancing software (perhaps one of the server or data center versions)
<1> yeah I've not been down to that office lately
<1> I'm having a fight with the ex boss over my gad damn money
<2> well I'm trying to avoid having this guy purchase a Hawking Tech..or something like that
<3> it would be easier to buy faster service
<2> Trying to avoide the Dual WAN Router...
<5> no worries
<2> there are two faster services. need to bridge two 10Mbps/1Mps services together
<3> that isn't bridging
<5> i could of downloaded it off you by now though
<2> load balancing. pardon my syntax

<3> sorry, important difference ;)
<2> or just combining the bandwidth, that's all I'd like to do.
<2> I don't want to do load balancing..that seems to limit what can be downloaded.. parsing the bw up
<2> so this just isn't possible without a dual wan router?
<1> yeah but it would have killed all bandwidth at the house
<1> I don't have very good upload
<5> no biggie
<5> i am going to go lay down for a while
<5> bbl
<6> hey there
<7> I'm trying to access files from NAS via wireless G through media player 11 and keep getting the message "file already in use close program and retry" but it happens to any/all files and nothing is accessing that I can tell????
<8> can you access the files from other PCs?
<7> I have but have also gotten the same message fomr #2 pc as well
<7> Files are on a Ximeta Netdisk with latest driver
<9> well is there anything trying to write/modify the file?
<7> not that I can tell - and I get the message with any of thousands of files on the drive not just 1 file.
<7> I can play the files with VLC media player.
<9> has it ever accessed it with that program? have you recently upgraded?
<7> it has and can sometimes - but even a reboot doesn always get it - new drivers installed a few weeks ago - I better chat with Ximeta guys.
<7> Thx for the help
<10> harlow
