(I know linux can use a long number as an IP, can I convert that back somehow? any tools for that?) <2> eh? <2> there is a perl module which will do that <6> tried googling for "convert long ip address"? <5> no, I did not knolong IP term <7> long ip to regular is quite simple really <5> SorcererX, simple for those who know it... <7> well <7> a.b.c.d is a*2^24+b*2^16+c*2^8+d in long ip form <7> then converting between the two is just basic math <5> :) <5> now that you've given the formula...you are right <4> oi <4> back <8> Mmkay I'm stuck on subnetting. I have a D-link router that has obtained an IP from my ISP which is 10.105.1.188 255.255.255.248. I have a Cisco 1710 router off of the WAN interface of the D-link router, and I'm trying to ***ign it an IP address on the same subnet and give it a static route back to the Dlink. I have ***igned my 1710 an IP of 10.105.1.186, but when I try to enter in the following route, heres what happens: <8> ip route 10.105.1.185 255.255.255.248 10.105.1.190 <8> %Inconsistent address and mask <8> excuse me... ip route 10.105.1.185 255.255.255.248 10.105.1.188 <9> i only need a dedicated public ip address for my firewall if i want to run remote VPN accessibility right?
