<12> Hi @ all
<13> hi, i've been trying to get onto any IRC network throught the wireless network at a public library, but cannot, so i guess port 113 must be closed. does that sound right? is there any way to get around this? any suggestions?
<0> 113 would be identd, not blocking irc
<1> Not all networks require identd to be enabled, although some do
<0> but the library could vary well have irc blocked.
<14> yeap could be the ports blocked :)
<0> www.undernet.org and try webchat
<0> let you access all the porn you want at a library but cannot use IRC. don't they know you can get your porn better on IRC.
<13> ack, webchat. i guess that would be a last resort, but thanks for the suggestion :)
<13> haha :)
<0> ;)
<13> the message i was getting on trying to connect to any network was:
<13> * Unable to connect to server (Network is unreachable)
<13> so IRC is blocked, right?
<0> that'd be like dialing my disconnect phone number.
<0> sort of
<13> any way to get around it, using my mIRC? ;)
<13> i was able to use YIM, so that's not blocked
<0> talk to their server admin
<13> road^bump- what would they need to do to unblock IRC? in other words, which ports would they have to open?
<0> if you are in usa, i'm surprised anything is blocked.
<0> beyond my technical ability. it may be it is blocked at their ISP.
<0> undernet irc port is general 6667
<13> road^bump, yep :) that's just what i'm going to do tomorrow. i figure nothing tried, nothing gained, so i'll just take the direct approach. i already have a number to dial. but if they guy/girl asks, "well what do i need to unblock?", what do i tell him in response?
<13> i see
<13> yeah, i have no idea about how that works either. this is, if IRC is blocked, that means port 6667 is blocked? or ports 6666 through 7000 ?
<13> i guess the admin could forward a port, but i've never done that
<0> that is my 'guess'
<9> I'm sure the admin has a good reason to block 6661-6669 and 7000
<13> road^bump- what channel would you suggest trying to get some additional backround on the matter including some tech help? you have any undernet buddies who are familiar with what i'm asking? thanks.
<13> so that's what it is, those ports are blocked.
<0> www.irchelp.org
<15> sal
<15> cyne seamana cu di caprio vb id luiza520
<0> there are a whole channel full right here, but they seem to be missing in action or AWOL
<9> Most comapnies don't pay there personal to chat, so they block IRC
<0> i would ***ume they chose IM for their customers.
<0> suppose someday i should find out what IM is all about. i have never used it.
<13> Dutch, ja hoor, i understand. i'm just looking for a way to get around the block, if there are any alternatives. (mind you, it's at a library, not my company or place of work)
<0> unless that is same as icq, which i tinkered with once upon a time.
<13> road^bump- you've never used yahoo internet messenger, for example?
<0> never
<16> couscous: they blocked ports to stop abusers (like you if you trying to get arround)
<0> no clue what it is or does. bet it messages instantly.
<16> just ask an administrator there to unblock if they really want
<16> else you dont have access to resources what could unblock
<13> i'd say it's convenient if you have friends you'd like to connect with, particularly if they already have yahoo accounts
<0> may be an ISP is donating the service to the library and they don't want IRC.
