<0> it has to do more work <1> sometimes software like MS Word, or mIRC, othertimes things like OpenOffice, and just Konquerer <0> but overall (not wine) i would expect it to be closer <1> I can boot Linux from Windows in VMWare, and its perfectly useable, however the reverse is not true. <0> how much ram? <1> 512 MB Ram <0> hmm, proc? <1> maybe I'm paranoid, but I can't figure out what is using so much ram <1> 1700 Athlon <0> check top, see whats eating the ram <1> top doesn't make sense <0> i'm not super hip on the gui myself <1> top says that applications are using 1300 mb <1> of ram <0> start top then hit P <0> it will show which programs are using the most cpu
<2> heh <0> you can use M to see what programs are using the most ram <0> game time bbiab <2> sure that's not Kb? <1> yeah <2> even on my systems with > 1gb ram, top reports all mem use in kilobytes by default <1> well unless m means something else <1> will mv move everything first then copy or will it delete as it's copying. <3> does anyone talk in here anymore? <4> when people ask questions <5> fwoomp: no, only you <3> The_Vox: hey, long time since I saw you :-) <5> fwoomp: been busy as hell...how about you? <3> I haven't been getting on here so often in the last couple of years <3> busy too! <3> I remember when this channel was so chatty that I had to watch carefully for responses :-) <5> hehehe <3> heh <3> incidentally, I am trying to figure out an exim4 thingie <5> fwoomp: poor you...I don't touch exim for any reason :) <3> ha :-) <3> what do you use now? <3> basically, I'm trying to get it to ignore "undisclosed-recipients" <3> but it tries to parse it and consequently sends a failure message <5> fwoomp: postfix, as I always have :) <3> ok <3> w00t! /etc/aliases did the trick! <3> The_Vox: is Coke still around? <5> haven't seen him in a very long time <3> me neither <6> Hey people, I am a complete and utter n00b, but I need a little help. I am installing this program (zend optimizer) and it looks fairly straight forward, except it is asking for a couple directories. The location of my php.ini is easy (locate php.ini) but I'm having troubles finding my apache bin directory. Does anyone know how I could go about finding it? <5> LoWIQ: if you installed apache from your distribution, it's in /usr/bin <7> LoWIQ: apache bin or apache source code? <6> it says.. Enter the location of where apache files are <6> and it says that /usr/local/apache/bin is default <8> hi <8> so FreeBSD's 'date' has a -v option, which lets you adjust the time to be printed out, by minutes, hours, days, etc etc. <8> I don't see the Linux 'date' having the same option. <8> anyone have any suggestions? <6> "/usr/bin" okay.. is there a certain file I can look for to make sure this is the proper location? <7> LoWIQ: try /usr/share/apache2 <6> nope.. no apache2 directory in /usr/share <7> LoWIQ: What distro? <6> it might be /usr/bin like The_Vox suggested <6> fedora c2 I believe <7> LoWIQ: You have apache installed, correct? <6> yep, up and serving <7> 1 or 2? <6> apache 2 I *think* <6> would php_info show anything? <7> Not really <6> hm.. is the bin directory listed in httpd.conf? or anywhere I can check? <7> Probably not <6> heh.. fun fun <3> what about /etc/init.d/apache ? <7> Probably means /usr/sbin/httpd <3> it might show something in there? <6> "/usr/sbin" has apachectl in it.. <6> k letme check those.. thanks <7> LoWIQ: Does it have httpd in it?
<6> no apache in /etc/init.d... letme check /usr/sbin for httpd <6> "/usr/sbin" has the file httpd in it <3> another thought... <8> nm got it. <3> ps ax should show the actual name of the executable <6> i see.. /etc/httpd <3> danq: what did you find? <6> Enter the location of where apache files are <8> --date="offset' <8> " <6> oops.. <8> where offset = -1 days, +10 weeks, etc etc. <3> danq: cool <8> kinda handy <3> yeah, I'll have to remember that one <6> "/etc/httpd" has "conf conf.d logs modules run" all in it <3> LoWIQ: not sure if the setup is looking for configuration or for the executable <3> LoWIQ: but yeah /etc/httpd is pretty normal (Apache 1, I think) <3> actually, I would have expected to see httpd.conf somewhere in there <6> "/etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf" <3> yeah, that's it <6> ok.. so there isn't a bin directory though? make one? <7> Usually when it says location of apache files it means the apache source <6> "Specify the Apache bin directory" is what it asks.. and it suggests "/usr/local/apache/bin" by default.. so just put in /etc/httpd or /etc/httpd/conf or make a bin directory first? <3> I wouldn't expect any bin stuff under /etc <6> hm.. this is brutal.. letme go see if anyones installed it in the php channel maybe <3> did you check ps ax yet? <3> that will at least tell you the executable file name <6> oh ok.. letme try that <3> then you can do something like find / -name httpd 2> /dev/null <7> We've already established that httpd is in /sbin <6> ps ax.. im seeing "/usr/sbin/httpd" <7> httpd being the executable for apache in redhat/fedora since the beginning of time <7> Yeah, /usr/sbin <3> ok that would be it then <6> so it's probably looking for that then? k perfect.. thank you both so much <6> letme see how this goes :P <3> alrighty, sounds good <9> hello anyone knowledgeable with mrtg here? <0> i know what mrtg is, does that count? <6> one more quick question.. it's suggesting /usr/local/zend as an install directory.. is that fine or anywhere better? I own this whole server with no other users <9> coz i have this problem where the graph is just a straight line in a certain period of time <0> okay whats going on? <3> LoWIQ: should be ok <0> whats it graphing? <9> bandwidth usage <6> k thanks again <0> then your probably not getting much traffic then, does it ever change? <9> yeah but why is it that all the ip addresses i created the mrtg for have the same graph? <9> i mean each ip should have different graph <0> because they are all on the same nic? <0> are they aliases? <9> no <9> each has its own modem <0> like eth0:0 eth0:1 eth0:2 ? <0> modem? <10> modem is probably (MOdulator/DEModulator) A device to turn digital signals to analog ones and back again, so they can be transmitted and translated back to digital at another modem without loss. Used for communication through means of audio, telephone, CB, etc. <0> how many modems do you have? <3> I know very little about mrtg, but could it be anything like the graphing scale? <9> 20? <3> in other words, something like zooming in/out? <0> you have 20 modems? you running a bbs? hehe <9> would u like me to give u a screenshot of the graph? <6> nice.. thank you again fwoomp and reality.. installed and working :) <0> jokno`aWt i've never used mrtg with a modem before <3> LoWIQ: great, glad to hear it! :-) <9> cable modem <0> you have 20 cable modems connected? <9> no <0> should be an interesting configuration file thats for sure <8> Redragon, can I bother you of your regex and awk hackery for a moment please? <9> you visualize an ISP and thats how it looks <0> well my awk ****s hehe, but i can try the regex stuff <0> jokno`aWt i see what your doing, incoming modems that your pushing out your cable modem
