Useful rpm command options are --install, --upgrade, --erase, --freshen (like upgrade but don't install the package if it wasn't there before), --verify, --setperms, --setugids, and --rebuild (soon to be replaced by rpmbuild --rebuild). You can convert RPM packages to other formats like .tgz and .deb with the program Alien
