<4> If i put a DVD in my DVD drive do i have to mount it every time, or do i mount the drive not the disk?, i am using text based SuSE
<5> !psybnc
<6> NO WAY! Forbidden topic. bouncers ****. If you're responsible enough to use it properly, then you're responsible enough to read the docs to set it up. And don't ask where to find help: that'd be helping you.
<5> grr missed him
<3> Redragon to bad allready told him :))

<5> it means his bloody clock isn't set right on the computer hehe
<5> bouncers are evil evil creatures
<3> Redragon didn`t help him with the bouncer just told him that it isn`t an error :)
<3> I answered a linux related question :)
<5> actually it is an error, it happens when you time is off and you try to work with files that are dated in the future of your machine
<5> its just not an important error
<3> eh actualy ur right :)
<7> any .wmv player for linux?
<3> Mplayer will work
<3> monkieboy : http://www.mplayerhq.hu/design7/dload.html
<7> hmm
<8> How do you mount a 0U device
<8> like a power strip in a cabinet.
<9> my clock is 26 sec late every minute does somebody know how to fix this?
<4> Is there a quick way i can check were my dvd rom is, i am runnign a text only SuSE Linux Distro/ i am lookign in /Dev, can any one help me out
<7> check /etc/fstab
<7> is there a dvd in /dev ?
<7> or a dvd-hdx
<7> if the auto-mount is disabled, mount the drive wherever you want
<4> Ok looked for both /etc/fstab & dvd-hdx, could not find either.
<4> ok monkieboy i will have a look at that, how would i know what to mount, if i can not find the drive
<7> create a directory wherever you want, ie. /mnt/dvd
<7> mkdir /mnt/dvd
<7> then su
<7> then mount the drive in /mnt/dvd
<4> i did not mean how to make the directory, how would i find the drive that i want to mount
<4> thanks for the help monkieboy
<7> how many physical hard drives on the machine?
<4> one
<4> and one dvd drive, i can not find the dvd drive though
<7> the dvd drive is _probably_ hdb
<4> if you do not mind me asking, why is it called hdb
<7> ours is not to question
<7> could also be hdc which is what mine is on my laptop
<4> lol, is it normaly called hdb
<4> does hdb mean IDE slave or another IDE channel
<7> throw a dvd or cd in the drive and try to mount it to a empty directory cd to the dirctory and ls -la
<7> i have to drop off, please try to read up on mount. man mount
<7> sorry i couldn't drive this all the way, but u should be able to get this pretty easily
<4> thanks alot monkiebou saved a few hours of reading help files
<4> although i will be reading all the files soon :)
<4> should be intesting
<7> usually the mount is something like - mount device (/dev/hdb) filetype mountpoint
<7> man mount
<4> thanks monkie i did not know about the man command

<6> ROOOOOOT has landed!
<11> hey, missa developa man,
<12> hello I have problems with X on Slackware 10.2
<11> get off irc with root
<12> yes I know
<12> that
<12> but I have a problem
<12> with X
<11> You're risking having your machine exploited being here as root.
<13> is ubuntu linux only 1 disk ?
<11> you just asked that

<8> what's it matter?
<12> sorry
<11> I just answered you.
<5> hiya Viking667
<14> My X GUI failed; and I'm at ATI's page looking at a long list of possible X drivers to download; anyone know, by chance, what the latest X video driver is 4 the ATI Technologies, Inc. 3D RAGE PRO PCI [Display adapter]
<14> they aren't listed with the windows drivers
<14> for the card
<14> I just thought someone else just might have fedora core and that video card also
<14> save me a little time in trying 2 figure out which is the latest driver that might work with both this card and FC5
<14> x86_64 for AMD mbd.
<15> doesn't fedora have some system-config (hit tab key 3 times) tool ? display possibly
<14> with no GUI of any kind coming up that will work?
<15> should if it uses libncurses
<14> ok
<14> i w. try it
<14> does FC5 come w. video drivers for X86_64?
<14> or do i need to download those seperately?
<14> u probably don't know that one
<15> no idea, but your video card is well supported as its older and i had 4 boxes with the same card
<14> or is there a module that I need to manually load?
<16> i'm pretty sure it comes with video drivers, would be pretty useless otherwise dont ya think?
<14> and u had no problems with FC5 with the RAGE PRO?
<15> nope just run that conf
<14> YES
<15> nope never tried fedora
<14> hit tab key 3 times; anything else?
<16> isnt it 'click your heels 3 times' ?
<15> that shows you what system-config tools you have installed
<11> Never heard of that.
<11> If I try that here, I get several thousand commands.
<14> thanks themaxxz; LOL
<15> it might be system-config-display i'm not sure
<16> ScoT, correct
<15> err never tried fc5 rather
<16> lucky guess or just clever of fc :)
<14> if i spit out all the errors that it came up with when i typed startx will that help any?
<15> no i tried 1 and 2
<15> went back to debian
<14> the first error was:
<14> FATAL: Module mach 64 not found
<14> I'm not sure if it will help 2 give other errors
<11> ahhh.
<14> does one need 2 manually install modules for video?
<11> I suspect that was supposed to say "mach64"
<14> yes
<11> but I'll go check
<14> i added the space
<14> there probably shouldn't b a space
<11> try using "ati" instead.
<14> when/where viking667?
<14> it tried to load that automatically
<11> instead of using "mach64"
<11> ohhhhh.
<14> it wasn't my choice
<11> Well, there might be a conf file in /etc/X11 you can look at
<14> it was the machine that chose it
<11> well, in that conf file, go see what it says for: Driver
<14> will do
<14> thanks 4 the info.
<14> but i also need 2 know what driver to switch to also; is there a list of ATI drivers included w. FC5 any place that u know of?
<11> there's a "Section "Device", the Driver would point to mach64, try changing that to ati
<14> i need 2 do more surfing obviously
<11> The drivers are fairly standard in Xorg.
<15> fedora is smarter than you give it credit, it will choose the correct driver, its a common card, why dont you just, yum install xorg-X11 system-config-display, and then run the latter
<11> that might be a better idea... though it already fell over once
<14> will do
<14> hmmm
<14> i don't know a yum from a yam; but i w. research yum
<14> but i don't need 2 download anymore drivers correct?
<14> 4 x86_64 AMD and RAGE PRO?
<15> yoda2 highly unlikely
<14> thanks
<14> knowing that w. save a little time
<14> let me go and research yum and i w. come back later 2 let u know how everything went
