<0> duplex: uname -a
<1> T|pu: if u really want to change postfix defaults queue lifetime put something like this in ur main.cf bounce_queue_lifetime = 5d
<2> T`aZ: 2.6.12
<1> T|pu: 5 days is the default
<3> netbeui: cool... i'll try that
<1> T|pu: when it reaches the value of ur bounce_queue_lifetime the mail will expire and will be discarded by postfix
<0> duplex: really sure you aren't running a 2.4 kernel and compiling a 2.6 module ? :)
<1> i mean will be returned to the sender
<0> duplex: maybe you dont have activated the module support i dont know
<1> hehe uname says 2.6.12

<3> ok netbeui , thanks alot, you've been really helpfull
<1> T|pu: welcome (:
<2> T`aZ: It's a possibility, but I doubt it (with the module support I mean). As far as the 2.6 kernel, no I'm definitely runing a 2.6.12, and the module is in /usr/src/2.6.12/ (the one I compiled)
<0> duplex: hm yeah, but i'm out of ideas :(
<1> duplex: by default, kernel's that comes with the distro have udf enabled
<2> netbeui: I recompiled the kernel and forgot to put udf in :-/
<2> T`aZ: No I just checked my old configuration, and it says that I had loadable module support.... this is weird.
<4> simple question, will debian sarge pickup/setup a ess es1937 sound card?
<1> duplex: i can't see the point of recompiling ur kernel if your not a gentoo user, recompiling the kernel doesn't really give you space
<2> I guess I can do the long way. Just recompile the kernel, with udf in the kernel, not a module. That should work.
<4> since when do only gentoo users recompile their kernels?
<1> darkn3ss: indeed it will
<2> netbeui: To be honest it was more a learning experience than anything.
<0> duplex: that's the windows way of doing, a real man would use a module and fix the problem ;)
<2> T`aZ: yeah but if the module isn't installing..... =(
<4> T`aZ: recompiling is hardly the windows way
<1> darkn3ss: i do, last week i added a new hardware thats not in the kernel
<4> netbeui, i was highlighting the part you said about "if your not a gentoo user" i'm a bsd user, i recompile my kernel almost weekly, for updates etc
<1> i mean not included when i build my kernel
<0> darkn3ss: a was talking about using the easy way (ie udf in the kernel, instead of as a module)
<4> T`aZ: in the kernel is actually more of a complex way of doing it, think about it, your actually recompiling the entire kernel to get a module to load auto, instead of insmodding it, i think your backwards on what your saying
<4> instead of insmod agp.ko your building your kernel config->compiling your modules->compiling the kernel->updating your bootloader->praying like hell
<4> what looks more complex to you?
<0> darkn3ss: ... he already knows how to compile a kernel, not how to use a module
<1> T`aZ: the easier way is "make modules" not recompiling the kernel
<4> T`aZ: then perhaps instaed of saying "thats the windows way" why not show him how to use the module(s)
<2> darkn3ss: Because we can't figure out how to install it.
<0> darkn3ss: because i dont know ?
<1> darkn3ss: the module isn't present
<2> He already tried, and we're stumped.
<2> netbeui: Yes it is, it just won't install now.
<4> then what would your next suggestion be?
<4> to put it in the kernel, and go from there
<0> that he continues searching how to fix the problem ..
<4> has anyone googled this matter so far?
<2> darkn3ss: This is one of those rare errors that just doesn't make any damn sense.
<4> welcome to the unix-lookalike world
<4> !
<1> duplex: what distro are you using?
<2> Debian.

<4> which debian?
<4> unstable/testing or stable?
<2> unstable.
<4> and do you know the module name?
<4> the _exact_ name
<2> Yes.
<4> then what happens when you insmod module.name.something.or.other.ko
<2> I get this: error inserting 'fs/udf/udf.ko': -1 Invalid module format
<4> how does that not make any sense?
<4> the module doesnt seem to be a linux module
<2> Well it came from the source code from the 2.6.12 kernel.
<5> What was wrong with the kernel that shipped with your distribution?
<4> so when you built the kernel, you built the module?
<4> the debian sarge kernel is pretty efficient.
<2> I edited my make menuconfig, to compile that as a module, then did a make modules && make modules_install , which compiled udf.ko, then I tried to install it, and it says invalid format. I have modules able to load in the kernel, and I know this is the right module for the kernel I'm using.
<1> longword: that was what i was saying... (:
<4> isnt that the old way to compile a kernel?
<2> longword: Well for one thing, my sound card wasn't working too well. The alsa drivers for the audigy 2 ****, the oss ones are better.
<4> i thought it was just like 'make' or something now
<4> (i havent compiled a linux kernel in ages)
<2> darkn3ss: I'm not recompiling the kernel, I was editing the menuconfig so I could do a make modules and just build that module.
<4> has that kernel been compiled ever?
<4> or did you just build the module?
<2> Yes.
<4> which one.
<2> But when I originally compiled the kernel I accidentally left out udf, so I loaded the old configuration I had saved (for the kernel I'm using 2.6.12), and threw in udf as a module and then compiled jsut the modules this time.
<4> just for the sake of argument, recompile the kernel, with that module used with the kernel module loader
<2> Yeah, that's what I'm probably going to do. I mean... **** I tried everything else, might as well just compile it statically.
<4> if all else fails, drop back to the original kernel, and apt the kernel source, and try it with that kernel
<4> *again, for the sake of argument*
<4> you think your having issues, try to compile suns jdk on bsd lmao
<4> its a friggin joke
<6> that was fun
<4> go into ports, go manually fetch 300mb of files, then load linux compat, then mount linprocfs, oh and add it to fstab, then watch it compile for 33hours and die out at the end with errors in the hotspot(tm) compile
<7> apt-get xx -> what should xx be when I want to install apache, PHP and MySQL
<8> longword, ever did an upgrade from centos 3.x to 4.x?
<2> Weapon-: do an apt-cache search apache (or whatever)
<7> oh thanks
<4> and a segfault for bx! \o/
<5> them: Not that I recall. Have gone from RH9 to CentOS 4.2 with little difficulty
<5> them: Can't imagine the ride from one CentOS to another would be any less smooth
<8> longword, yum upgrade or using anaconda?
<5> them: I wouldn't use a yum upgrade without expecting trouble
<2> Heh, all this just to watch the dvd I rented.
<8> longword, that sort of confirms my idea
