<0> I think that's pretty much it. <0> oh yeah, and derailleurs. <0> both front and rear. <0> shifters and rear derailleur are XTR -- ooooo <0> (original XTR. hahaha) <1> Still hewn out of stone? <0> haha <0> nah, they're really sweet actually. <0> some of the nicest brake levers I've ever used, and the index shifters are pretty good too. <0> the cups on the bottom are kind of beat up, unfortunately... gotta figure out whether replacements for those can be acquired. <0> it's all 7-speed stuff too. so I've gotta get a 7-speed c***ette. <0> and a new chain, and one new chainring, and new cable housings and cables, and handlebars, and stem. <2> hello all <3> 'morning. <0> yo Viking667 <1> hey Viking
<2> hew're you? <1> Yup, cold indeed <0> I went for some decent mountain biking today... YAY! <3> me too <0> riding on rough trails. it was really fun. <1> We had such a good start early this week, only to have it turn into $&*^@#%&^@ weather again <0> hehe <1> It really ****s to have temperature drops of almost 20C over night :/ <0> hell. nasty place you live <0> come here. <0> it doesn't even snow. <0> (ok. it does, once a year, and it disappears within a day) <3> it doesn't here. <1> Isn't canada like, cold? Especially during the winter? <2> ahhh, but if you love snow, then here's the place to come. <3> And it's a cool 110F daily. <2> well, up on the mountains, anyhow. <0> Coma: not on the west coast :) <0> the west coast rocks. <3> Come to Phoenix heh. <0> rest of canada -> icebox in winter. <2> mind you, Mt Hutt had to close - about four days after they opened... cos they ended up with too MUCH snow... yeesh. <0> danq: yeah, but you see, it's currently like 60F here. <3> That ****s. <0> danq: in the day if we're unlucky it'll get up to 80F <3> It's about 90F out right now. <3> And it's almost 2AM <2> Little towns inland in some South Island areas are still without power <0> it stays in a nice narrow temperature range, within the realm of sanity. <2> heh. <0> Viking667: nice. <2> Outside tonight, it'll be about 34 F <0> I should come to NZ some winter and ski :P <0> and then come back to Canada in the winter and ski some more. <2> heh... <0> oh wait. that's another expensive hobby. <2> Isn't that what some Europeans do? <0> one at a time please. <1> bronaugh: get very good at it and find a sponsor <0> Coma: skiing? <1> Si <0> nah, I'll never be really good at skiing. <0> I know my skill level. it's not that high. <0> I don't like moguls much still. <0> cross country skiing... that I am OK at. I could get good at it. <2> I've never skiied in my life. <0> still, that requires physical stamina, not just raw insanity <2> yes. <0> mountain biking is fun because it's mostly raw insanity once you get up to a certain level in terms of technique. <0> the rest is pure cojones <1> Or sheer stupidity <0> that too. <0> I didn't even get a bruise. <1> Oh, and those too <0> I biked in shorts with no padding, and didn't get a bruise, cut, scrape etc. <0> I tried out ramps and **** for the first time today. <0> those are kind of fun.
<0> they had this thing where there were 2 sets of logs laid down that created 2 steep little mounds.. you rode over those, then rode up this ramp, then across a teeter-totter and DOWN when you get over halfway :P <2> It's been 10-speeds (and the like) and road only. <0> it was pretty wild. I managed to do it once. <0> there were soem kids doing it. <0> I took the ramps way faster than they did... it was fun :P <0> then again, I kind of like being on the verge of out of control. <2> I don't. I'm usually not in control by that stage. <0> good hardware helps. really grippy tires, for instance. <0> a drive train you're confident of. <0> good brakes. <0> those make a big difference. <2> ahh. And a decent understanding of technique. <2> i.e. if ya don't know diddly, don't go out on the track. You'll get hammered, every time. <0> hehe <0> yeah, but if you've ever dodged potholes on a rocky road in a car, you can ride a bike on medium rough terrain. <0> you just avoid the stuff that looks like your tires'll slip on it. <0> and the nasty things that give you thoughts of death. <0> ie, don't aim for the wall-o-rock <0> other than that, choose appropriate gearing, don't be afraid to weave going uphill if it's steep, etc. <2> stuff weaving... If I weave, I fall off <grin> <0> hehe <2> (and that's on the road going uphill) <0> I was weaving today for 2 reasons... pushing really hard, and lack of traction. <1> But there are still moments where you're wondering whether it's a smart thing to do this or that, and of course you make the wrong decision but you just had to try ;) <0> I never ran out of traction at all today. my friend who I was biking with ran out all the time. <2> tyres, eh? Or you were spinning right? <0> he weighs a lot more, he probably doesn't choose gearing as well, and I Think he's afraid to roar at the hill and give it all he's got. <2> ah. <0> my tyres slipped a bit here and there. <0> but not badly. <0> yeah. SFA :) <1> That's scary <0> you weigh almost 10kg less than me, and I'm chronically underweight. <0> err... uhh. <2> yeah. And I'm only 5' 9" <0> yeah, I guess that's right. <0> and I'm 5ft10 <2> so my BMI is ... like ... way down. <0> yeah. it's into the "you need to eat. go" range. <2> 116 lb or so. <0> yeah, I'm about 60-62kg <2> err, if I eat, it doesn't seem to matter. I don't pack it on for longer than it takes me to go to the loo and ...yeah. 'nuff said. <4> but then, i am not a dwarf. <2> I'm not the lightest one here, though. Apparently someone here beats me, or over in #linux <0> haha <0> so I'm guessing Coma weighs considerably more than us ultralights. <1> bronaugh: I'm around 100kg, so revie wins <0> haha <2> I guess so. I have trouble standing up in a really decent gust. <0> nice. <0> Viking667: yeah, I don't really gain weight much. <0> a little, if I eat like a horse. <2> I don't gain it at ALL <2> I'm lucky (these days) if I get up to 54 kg <1> Maybe you just eat too healthy ;) <2> But yeah, I eat decent amounts of veges and stuff. <0> hehe <0> and I'm vegan... so... <1> I even gain wait if I eat veggies <0> hah! <0> if I ate veggies alone I'd die. <2> wow. he stops every time he eats a carrot <1> Maybe it's the creamsaus or the like that I add <0> hahaha <0> possible :P <1> And then the amount, though I've been cutting backa little <2> I'm outta here. Night all.
