<mogadishu> or is this now a lost/hopeless cause?
<TheZuule> hey guys, is there a way to use a & on a command line without bash interpretting it as the usual meaning of an & on a command line?
<TheZuule> this document says i need to escape out of the &... i don't konw how else to do that other than a \ but that doesn't seem to work
<TheZuule> "if you run this from a shell the '&' needs to be escaped, or the command will stop at that point."
<mogadishu> is it normal that firefox tries to render an odt file? firefox users accessing odt files from my web server (via dir listing at site) have this problem.
<themaxxz> weee
<longword> them: Surely you mean Wii?
<longword> http://www.lovethatfun.com/PS3_vs_Wii/702/
<markos_> Do you guys help with apache modules? (mod_cband for instance)
<tojoe> great.. now i finally got the darn diag code and maxtors rma page goes offline
<Mad^Demon> i need to know if slack has graphical interface...
<mogadishu> is it normal that firefox tries to render an odt file? firefox users accessing odt files from my web server (via dir listing at site) have this problem.
<mogadishu> what is a good script command to rm all instances of a filename in a dir and its subdirs?
<mogadishu> should i rm `some cmnd` dir
<mogadishu> where some cmnd produces full path to each file of desired name
<Jellow> i installed ntfs driver , fuse, and ntfs-3g for fedora 5, i did mount -t ntfs /dev/hdb1 /mnt/win_d -o umask=0007 and mounted a ntfs filesystem, but i cant write , can anyone help me out ?
<rikki_> I thought ntfs was read only or used to be
<longword> rikki: The march of progress
<longword> !ntfs
<LadyByte> it has been said that ntfs is Microsoft's "modern" filesystem. See http://www.linux-ntfs.org/ for kernel drivers which now claims full read/write capabilties. Other options include http://www.jankratochvil.net/project/captive/
<longword> Jell: Are you sure 0007 is the umask you want?
<rikki_> Morning longword
<SpamapS> longword: any ideas on how to keep sparse files from reading horribly slow? or for that matter, how to keep MySQL from creating its indexes as sparse files?
<mogadishu> what is a good script command to rm all instances of a filename in a dir and its subdirs?
<longword> Spam: No ideas other than an alternate filesystem
<longword> Spam: I hear tmpfs is good at that :)
<longword> mog: find starting_dir -name 'whatever_name.txt' -print0 | xargs -0 rm -f
<SpamapS> longword: ugh these are biiiig.. :-/
<SpamapS> though I suppose I could just make a huge swap partition.
<rikki_> Man I really need to brush up on my Linux skills... What you get when you don't upgarde from woody for a long time
<SpamapS> lol rikki!
<SpamapS> woody was a good one.
<rikki_> I have sarge now
<SpamapS> I finally put my old box that was originally a slink install to bed about a year ago..
<SpamapS> slink->potato->woody->sarge .. it was a trooper.
<rikki_> I have been driving a truck last year. No Linux programming for at least two years
<SpamapS> apacheLog_2006_03_26.MYI 815588352 100% 1005.23kB/s 0:13:12 (2, 33.3% of 6)
<SpamapS> These sparse files are just ridiculous
<SpamapS> apacheLog_2006_03_26.MYD 5582318968 100% 42.26MB/s 0:02:05 (1, 16.7% of 6)
<SpamapS> blargh
<rikki_> Now I am back into java and have to set up all the things I used to run... apache, servlets, mysql and a miriade of other thinks
<rikki_> Lots of fun ahead
<rikki> At least I had enough hd space to achive all the old woody system on this machine so I can look it up...
<rikki> Is the channel under attack by bots all the time now?
<SpamapS> all channels are
<LeBear> haven't you heard.. we're at war. Gather the legions. hehe
<SpamapS> whhhhaat?!
<SpamapS> rikki.. Foz... all in one week?
<LeBear> ola SpamapS.. how goes?
<SpamapS> Too many old timers... hehe
<SpamapS> Its alright bear.. whens the last time you were in here regularly? year ago?
<LeBear> something like that.. I lost my calendar. hehe
<darko``> Not counting us idlers.
<rikki> Foz... I beat you... Was many years since I was active in this chan... Prolly more than 5
<darko``> bwhaha, amateur
<darko``> I wonder if there's still somewhere channel log.
<darko``> Used to be.
<SpamapS> I've got some pretty darn old logs
<darko``> No, this was daily thing.
<SpamapS> but I've not been here more than 85% the last 2 years
<darko``> It went by days.
<darko``> ..as daily things usually go. I am still to find a daily thing that goes by years. duh
<rikki> Longword might know how many years.... Not sure of the Sys Op list... It used to go JoshuaGo then me and maybe Longword... Anything inbetween I don't know...
<rikki> I can't even remember who I p***ed it on to when I went awol
<SpamapS> --- Log opened Tue Jun 25 16:20:32 2002
<rikki> I still have mail in my archive from JoshuaGo
<SpamapS> I see a login from you on August 8, 2002 rikki

<SpamapS> 02:07 * rikki is still alive and around... j00 just not look in right place
<SpamapS> Ugh.. looks like I haven't been logging at all since May 22, 2005. :-/
<rikki> Wow

<SpamapS> 12:51 < darko``> hi, can you give me a nema of a nice 'print screen' utility (RH7.3)
<darko``> eww
<rikki> Location based technology
<darko``> and i still don't know it.
<darko``> Using gimp up to day for that thing.
<SpamapS> gnome-print-screen
<SpamapS> ;)
<darko``> meh
<rikki> Longword who did you did you take over sys op from?

<SpamapS> sad ..
<SpamapS> thats when I moved out of my old house .. and kind of my old life...
<markos_> any one familiar with mod_cband on apache? I tried to limit number of simultaneous connections from a single IP with mod_cband, however, in the same directive we have to set the max download speed, the limit for simultaneous connection per IP works just fine, however no matter what I set for download speed it always stick to 120KB/s here is what I have --> CBandRemoteSpeed 20000kb/s 3 1 [apache version 2.2.3]
<SpamapS> markos_: think about the problem with that... AOL's proxies can make 1000 concurrent connections to your website from one IP...
<longword> rikki: Yup, it was Josh
<longword> Spam: And you think AOL IPs deserve more bandwidth than that? :)
<markos_> I actualy do not really care about AOL users hehe
<markos_> I tried to use iptables and connlimit, it never worked
<longword> Never worked?
<markos_> iptables -A INPUT -p tcp --syn --dport 80 -m connlimit --connlimit-above 2 -j REJECT <-- here is the command, and this is the error I get --> iptables: Unknown error 4294967295
<markos_> 2.6.17.5-grsec-IS <-- current kernel on the server
<rikki> Longword: I think it was me you took it over from... I was the level 500 op after Josh
<rikki> I will look up my mail archive later to refresh my memory
<themaxxz> welp
<themaxxz> weeefeee
<markos_> does anyone know why symbolic link doesnt work with apache 2. ? I keep getting this error --> [Mon Aug 14 19:49:31 2006] [error] [client IP] Symbolic link not allowed or link target not accessible: /home/username/public_html/folder
<CeruleanD> Does that have something to do with Apache?
<markos_> Yes.
<OptimusPrime> CeruleanD: symlinks are 'not' followed if they lead out of the htdoc dir or subdir
<CeruleanD> Oh ok, well, I don't know then, hehe. I'd blame it as an OS issue, but I'm still pretty junior.
<OptimusPrime> markos_: its not a 'feature' but a 'security' item
<CeruleanD> Ah ok, didn't realize that's where it started from.
<OptimusPrime> markos_: for multiple users, you would have to setup of vitual hosts with their home dir as the htdoc
<markos_> great, thanks
<markos_> one last question, Index -Options does not work in .htaccess anymore, is there anyway to get around that besides the virtual host directive?
<markos_> ops, I meant Options -Index
<OptimusPrime> markos_: dont' mess with htaccess much...never tried to use th option.. I would first check and see if the htaccess setup is configd properly first... then once tested and working, roll over to using various options
<OptimusPrime> brb
<w800i> mailman wont work with ssl. it works perfect without ssl. all other cgi scripts works fine with or without ssl. mailman with ssl just gives the browser. do you wanna save the cgi file
<awpti> good god.. 3 hours and i still haven't gotten past the opennms install script.
<dinux> Is there anyway to overcome the vfat 2GB file size limit when partitioning and formatting a drive in Linux?
<sinthetek> i didn't think there was a way to overcome it at all
<awpti> wow, what a verbose error log.. it's empty.
<dinux> What is going on awpti? Nice weather, ay?
<awpti> yeah, hope it pours rain tonight.
<dinux> As do I. That'd be really nice.
<awpti> not a lot going on, just trying to get opennms to work.. tomcat is being a biatch.
<awpti> Starts okay, but ends with no output.
<dinux> mkfs.vfat is being a biotch.
<awpti> so i've got not idea what thehell is going on with it.
<TheZuule> evening folks, i'm trying to find a nice full featured linux BitTorrent client that has a reasonable overhead unlike the machine eating java hog that Azureus is
<dinux> ./mkfs.vfat -v -F 32 -n noname /dev/hdc - I have to use -I with that to get it to create the partition on the drive. But now I can't copy all of my files over to it.
<TheZuule> any suggestions?
<dinux> Run Apache and PHP and install Torrentflux.
<TheZuule> dinux: you can use fdisk to make the partitions then use mkfs to format them
<TheZuule> dinux: that would create a lot of overhead on the machine though wouldnt it? that and a security risk from the webserver
<sinthetek> i use mldonkey which has it's own http interface and mutliple gui frontends
<sinthetek> dunno exactly how full-featured it is, though
<dinux> TheZuule, is your machine just a local desktop?
<awpti> good lord.. what the hell. i've never seen an application with such a lack of error output or anything.
<dinux> TheZuule, if you're behind a router you're box will be fine.
<TheZuule> dinux: for now yeah, just can't deal with the excessive memory usage of Azureus
<dinux> awpti, hahaha, it's called Windows!
<TheZuule> dinux: i'm not behind a router
<awpti> No, it's called Tomcat4.
<dinux> Ah, hm... Not sure then. I use TorrentFlux on my dedicated server.
<TheZuule> dinux: well that's on a dedicated server, i'm talking about a GUI desktop app, i don't want to open my machine to attacks with a webserver running
<TheZuule> i'm at the point where i'm ready to use the console linux BT client and just open a few tabs in my terminal to beat this insane memory consumption
<TheZuule> i'd really prefer something with some decent features though, azureus would be perfect if it wasn't a java app ;)
<sinthetek> http://mldonkey.sourceforge.net/MLdonkeyPlugin
<TheZuule> yeah i'm checking that now, looks promising, would have to see it in action, would replace my limewire too
