<0> neworder?
<0> the thing's +x already
<1> yes ? what you want to do ?
<2> i have two isp,now my linux box server has two nics, one nic eth0 is 1.1.1.1 the ip of my first isp, second nic eth1 is 2.2.2.2 the ip of my 2nd isp, the default gw is the gateway of my first isp which is 1.1.1.254, i have also added this command route add -net 2.2.2.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 gw 2.2.2.254 dev eth1. now all these two isp routers meet in my main switch. why cant i ping nor traceroute the ip 2.2.2.2 from internet or remote computers outside m
<0> load it up at bootup, or at least at command prompt
<3> hos: Because routing involves more than just your small little corner of the internet
<1> jesh: if '/etc/rc.d/rc.inetd' have mode +x it's loaded at boot (default)
<3> hos: You have a complex setup that you'll likely need to discuss with both ISPs
<0> neworder: it says it is loaded up, but when i get in and ps -e, it's not there
<2> longword do you mean i need to tell first isp to add my other ip block in there router?
<0> u think there might be something wrong with my system?
<3> hos: I think it's your second ISP you most need to talk to
<2> both two isps are using basic static routing
<1> jesh: verify /etc/rc.d/rc.inet2 if contain the line '/etc/rc.d/rc.inetd start'
<2> longword what do i have to tell them?
<3> hos: I'm not sure.

<1> jesh: grep "/etc/rc.d/rc.inetd" /etc/rc.d/rc.inet2
<3> hos: Use a packet sniffer to figure out what's going on.
<2> i have tested this my previous company before it worked but now with this new company i worked with doesnt
<0> neworder:...
<0> # Start the inetd server:
<0> if [ -x /etc/rc.d/rc.inetd ]; then
<0> /etc/rc.d/rc.inetd start
<0> fi
<1> lol
<3> hos: And make sure that packets with a source IP from ISP2 are routed through ISP2, and those with an address from ISP1 route through ISP1
<3> hos: You may need to have a read of www.lartc.org
<0> oops
<2> yes in netstat -nr shows that ip block of my isp1 goes to eth0 and ip block of my isp2 goes to eth1
<2> this is just basic static routing ,it shouldnt be that difficult
<2> byt im a little bit confused
<2> but not byt
<3> hos: netstat can't show you what I'm telling you to do
<4> jesh> open /etc/vsftpd.conf and look at the last 3 lines
<0> ok
<5> morning.
<2> hmmm
<4> do what it says
<3> hos: When your kernel has a packet, it usually routes it based on the destination IP address, not source
<6> morning
<3> hos: And it routes packet-by-packet, it doesn't bother with connections or state
<0> armor: ony proftp, not vsftp
<0> hold on i gotta rebot
<0> reboot
<3> hos: So if you've got two equal default gateways, the kernel will round-robin between them, though it will cache routes so that a packet will tend to follow the same route as the last packet for that destination
<4> why?
<1> ArmOrAttAk: the 'proftpd' service have 'ServerType inetd' in config and inetd service startind the proftpd daemon, also - the config for proftpd in /etc/proftpd.conf
<4> yes i see
<4> i haven't used that, i've used vsftpd
<4> looks like it can be setup standalone just as easily
<1> i like proftpd because have many config rules for users restrictions
<2> hmmm
<3> hos: Complex routing is melty-brain stuff
<3> hos: But check out lartc.org
<4> i like sftp
<3> hos: And the /sbin/ip command in general
<2> good i have /sbin/ip, is this program used by ifconfig too?
<3> hos: For example /sbin/ip route get 82.195.128.1 from 2.2.2.17
<1> ArmOrAttAk: sftp is client or daemon ?:)
<3> hos: ifconfig doesn't use /sbin/ip, though at some point in the (probably distant) future, /sbin/ifconfig may disappear entirely and /sbin/ip will be The network utility
<2> longword if i have /sbin/ip does this mean i have installed lartc?
<3> lartc.org is a web site.
<3> It describes the use of Linux Advanced Routing
<2> oh ok
<3> Which is managed using /sbin/ip, part of the iproute2 package
<7> neworder: i didn't notice it
<2> ok
<3> AFAIK these days most distributions still use ifconfig and route to configure networking
<8> anyone know if video4linux (or some other tool) supports recording of video from an rca-in source on a video card (I don't have a tuner card....simply an rca-in and rca-out interface)
<3> But those tools only brush the surface of what the kernel is capable of
<2> im sorry but this linux distro is a redhat 9 ..too old but still running
<3> aphex: Dpeends on the chipset
<3> hos: I'd recommend an uprade to CentOS 4.2
<2> why not fedora?
<3> hos: Boot the install CD with the option linux upgradeany'
<8> longword: chipset of the video card? (ATI Rage 128)

<3> hos: Becase CentOS is more server-oriented, and each particular version has a much greater shelf life
<3> aphex: That's not the capture chipset. Is it an AIW card?
<8> AIW ?
<3> ATI All-In-Wonder card
<3> aphex: Google around for gatos I think
<2> longword: i have http/web/ftp services running in that redhat 9, do you think i will have no problem in upgrading to centOS 4.2 using that install cd with the option linux upgrade any?
<3> hos: Fedora Core 4 will only be supported for another 6 months or so at which point you're all but forced to upgrade to the next bleeding edge FC5/6
<3> hos: CentOS 4.2 is a free clone of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4. It will be supported for several years to come.
<3> hos: I've done the upgrade myself on a box recently
<2> cool
<3> hos: Only two gotchas: It didn't replace the redhat-release package with centos-release, and it didn't install the yum package manager package
<8> All in wonder,sorry....no. It's just a Rage 128 with rca-in and rca-out and s-video out i think. I already got the video-in (thru rca) working with windows (though it was rather unstable) and the video out working too. However I did not have the same luck under linux. The only video-out tool I found was atitvout and it didn't seem to work properly. For video-in, I can't find information on capturing thru rca-in....All I find is us
<8> ing video4linux (and a plethora of other tools) in order to record video using a tuner card.
<3> hos: Both easily solved by hand with rpm commands
<2> great
<2> but as for now i dont have centOS yet, can i solve this basic routing in redhat 9?
<3> aphex: Look for gatos and see how far you get
<3> hos: Yes.
<3> hos: No huge difference between the two on the core routing stuff
<2> ok
<8> longword ... I'm checking the site now....thanks for the advice.
<2> how i can find the exact commands in /sbin/ip to solve that routing problem
<3> hos: That's what the lartc.org web site is for
<2> ok reading
<3> hos: However as I have warned previously, this can be melty-brain stuff
<2> hoping i can understand this linux complex manuals hehehe
<2> no harm doing trial and error right?
<3> Mostly.
<2> ip rule add from $IP1 table T1 <--why does this syntax wrong like giving me error "Error: argument "T1" is wrong: invalid table ID"
<9> hello!, i would like to know the newest distro out, the neatest for workstation not server's
<5> the newest?
<5> you can see the latest releases @ http://distrowatch.com/
<9> is unbunt cool? or is mandriva better do you know?
<3> Sol: Fedora Core 4 is what you want
<3> hos: /etc/iproute2/rt_tables
<3> hos: Tables are numbered, /sbin/ip and the kernel know only numbers, but /sbin/ip can use the rt_tables file to map numbers to names and vice-versa
<3> hos: DO NOT use random numbers for tables.
<3> hos: Some ranges are special
<10> ?
<10> how to open ports from root ?
<3> What kind of ports?
<1> i'm interested how to close all ports:)
<10> Evil` :)
<11> hello , how can I open ports on RedHat 9 ? thnq
<10> sursa mea de info
<12> upgrade to something that isn't ancient
<3> Riiight.
<3> Evening Redr
<12> hiya longword
<12> did ya see it??
<13> Redragon hiya
<13> rember me?
<14> hi longword as well
<12> yup
<12> longword quote of the week should be "frack me"
<14> heh
<3> Redr: I have it downloaded hours, just waiting for the right time
<12> you'll like it
<14> what is it?
<2> longword http://lartc.org/howto/lartc.rpdb.multiple-links.html <-im trying to follow this SPLIT ACCESS
<3> It's fracking brilliant
<14> omg people still use Redhat 9? wtf
<3> hos: I can't help on the specifics I'm afraid, you'll need to experiment
<12> yea RH9 is way old and insecure :)
<15> hey
<15> I have an problem
<15> :( when i write ls ..
<15> on my console .. "segmentation fault"
<15> why ?
<12> you've probably been rooted
<16> Redragon, see what? :)
<17> oO
<17> i just got packeted
