<2> ok.. so my summer temps here can reach 131F
<2> which is quite warm
<4> LadyByte convert 44 degrees Celsius to Fahrenheit
<0> At what point should I be really worried
<0> haha.
<2> 43 is kinda ok..
<2> I had one of the engineers at maxtor tell me the onboard temp (which is what smart reports) is ideal at or around 40.. under 25 and they had trouble writing to the media and over 55 they void the warranty

<5> hmmmmmm I've had some hard disks I'm SURE were hotter than 55C when I pulled it out of the comp.
<5> I had to buy a fan specifically for cooling, I'm still waiting for the top psu fan to be replaced. I'll need to get money and buy that one.

<9> any idea how I can emerge snort without installing X.org as a dependency? This is for a fulltime server which does not need X.org, and thus I don't want it installed (other than maybe the libraries if other console-based apps need the libs)
<9> in gentoo 2006.0, that is
<10> thank god for broadband and vmware, I am back from the dead
<10> lol
<5> heh heh. Hello again, kirt
<10> hello ;)
<10> I was trying to edit a firefox config file , and then I got fed up, and removed alot of libraries, thinking I can install them again , and after that root stopped working, and I could'nt restart
<2> ahhh.. yes.. libraries are generally required
<5> ouch.
<10> it took me 20 minutes to get it working again on vmware
<2> yeah, virtual machines are good like that..
<2> you still on a windows host ?
<10> yeah, host is win2k 3 ghz, with 2 GB ram
<0> http://web.okaygo.co.uk/apps/scratchpad/flashcom/index.htm
<11> O yeah, kirt , windows needs those ressources *eg*
<2> man.. I have a friend with a PIII-M 750Mhz laptop with 196M ram and Win2k is just a pig on that.. linux runs like a train..
<11> perplex_afk with X ?
<2> yep.. window maker though.. not gnome or kde
<11> Yeah, i like wmaker :)
<11> But 196MB RAM sounds a little too less ...
<2> hell, I used to run X, wmaker and wine with a custom windows app in 128M and most of that was ramdrive... it unpacked from CF into ram and ran from there.. so 196 is *luxury*!
<2> having said that, My laptop has 1G, my servers 1.5G each and my desktop 3G.. so I'm a ram junkie
<2> her laptop can't be upgraded I'm afraid
<11> lol
<11> But i still cant see... how you got 196 from 128 ...
<2> my friends laptop has 196.. my old embeded systems had 128 and most of that was ramdrive.. so hers with 196 and a hard disk is quite spacious by comparision..
<12> good evening
<13> hi
<12> hi
<10> this is fun! I broke linux in 3 days and I am looking to break it some more
<10> lol
<14> you must have tried hard
<10> if I back-up my vmware image, I can get it working again, in less than 2 minutes
<15> kirt: if you really wanted to 'break it' just delete: /lib/libc.so
<10> I really like Ubuntu, everything is so configurable, anything can be changed, and there's lots of help resources on the web, and its entertaining, and fun, and p***es the time
<10> I love it
<12> fanboy. great.
<13> how to unarchive *.tar.bz2 ?
<16>
<8> !tar
<13> thanks
<8> she must be way out there hehe
<8> !status
<1> Since Wed Mar 22 21:10:18 2006, there have been modifications, questions, dunnos, morons and commands. I have been awake for d h m s this session, and currently reference factoids. I'm using about 40 kB of memory. With active forks. Process time user/system 381.66/37.66 child 669.95/47.66
<8> ah nope, she temporarily brain dead

<8> .o
<8> .ops revi fix ladybyte
<16> | tar xf
<8> oops even
<15> awake^: just double checked...that should be: bunzip -c <16> | tar -xp
<8> or tar -xjf archive.tar.bz2
<8> oh wait, he is on that bsd stuff aint he?
<15> Redragon^: I was giving him some dating 'tips'
<8> then you'll probably have to do it OptimusPrime way
<13> it is just ok in both ways
<13> I'll try to not ask dumb questions further, I'm just more than a newbie in this domain
<8> awake if you drop the ^ you'll probably be banned in fewer channels, just so you know
<17> so... in the US is the taxes season, right ?
<8> yup
<13> oh, a season ...
<17> so how's life there?
<13> Drkynes hi ya
<17> I've just read something that the IRS asks PayPal for customer data o.O
<13> Redragon^, thanks for advice
<17> does the IRS have a official website ?
<13> anyway, not joined to many chans
<18> hello:)
<17> thanks
<17> they don't say anything about PayPal =/
<19> the IRS is still running 386 computers, don't worry about it
<17> oh :-D
<17> ok, now this DOES ****...
<17> Stupid Windows =/
<20> I'm really confused: the disk space that df reports is very different from the space parted reports: http://pastebin.com/656806
<20> I just made a big new partition (93GB) and copied my entire existing disk (14GB) to it using cp -ax
<20> is there some file that stores the size of the disk for df to read?
<17> no
<17> hmm
<17> why do people insist on making creating /boot ?
<20> do you just put your boot files on your main patition?
<20> partition
<17> well I don't have a 486 or p1 machine...
<17> did you reboot your machine after partitioning ?
<20> yes
<17> oh well...
<21> as I was saying: parted: 3 30GB 123GB 93GB primary ext3 /// fdisk: /dev/hda3 3679 14946 90510210 83 Linux
<21> so they both report hda3 as the big disk
<22> go for it, stupid idea anyways
<22> at least the "must have steam running to play" part
<8> i agree
<22> it's along the lines of the audio player on my new cell phone. Inorder to play music on the phone you have to sign in into sprints music store
<22> if you don't have a login, no music
<23> hi, can any one help with virtual host please on apache?
<20> I just made a big partition (93GB) on my disk, and copied my existing root partition (14GB) to it using cp -ax. I can boot using the big partition; however, when its mounted on / and I run df, it reports the size as 14GB. However, when I boot with the original (small) partition mounted on /, and then mount the big parititon manually in /mnt, it lists the size correctly as 93GB...any ideas?
<17> brum, state your question
<20> both fdisk and parted report the big disk as big and the small disk as small...
<20> and I have no idea what could be wrong
<23> sorry was afk
<23> im trying to use virtualhost, i set one URL up but when i type the second one on a browser it goes to the first folder/user
<24> !last MoLoot
<24> Hey longword... wondering if you could tell me the IP address that I logged in with last time as MoLoot. I am out of town, and spaced my IP address... :(
<24> !seen MoLoot
<25> MoLootLap: I haven't seen MoLoot.
<1> MoLootLap: i haven't seen 'moloot'
<26> Hm.
<22> it's not that hard
<8> it be easy :)
<26> Don't get me wrong, this is just a 'mirror' of the real database, but the data is actually important.
<26> And I'm going to try to drop a table and create it in one transaction.
<26> Hm.
<26> And I already have my doubts.
