<0> level_ http://paste.getlinuxhelp.org/1944
<1> rpm -V coreutils
<2> damn firefox is slow when i'm writing dvd's
<0> at rpm -v the "process has hungsups"
<0> has hunged-up
<0> sorry
<2> Juni: then you are hacked.
<0> ai ai ai
<0> ok
<2> btw, what kernel are you using?
<0> so i have to disconnect the machine
<0> ancient
<0> 2.4.20-8smo
<0> 2.4.20-8smp
<0> sorry
<2> well why are you using old kernel?

<0> on that machine
<3> Original kernel too. Cool.
<2> are you sure you are not the hacker?
<4> haha
<2> "hacker"
<1> lol
<0> yes, yes, i am the hacker, but well intented
<5> oh?
<0> that is what you wanted to hear level_?
<5> do tell
<0> :))
<3> Morning D
<2> Juni: not exactly
<5> longword: hi.
<0> i just enjoy fixing other machines
<2> Juni: piatra neamt is a nice city you know.
<0> i do this for a living
<0> level_ don't know the city
<0> never mind
<2> Juni: let me understand this, you hack machines... you brake their brains out and then try to repair... nice way of living.
<0> level_ i have "said" what you wanted to "hear"
<1> its not a very good living if you ask me
<0> discard those lines
<0> level_ yes... and after that i beg the admin to pay me a dollar for fixing his machine
<2> Juni: well if you want to help others do this: echo "check your system and backup" > /etc/motd; init 0
<0> :)
<5> well "then" that "makes" it all "different"
<2> that would do the job
<0> level_ maybe runleve 3 will be more suitable?
<0> level_ maybe runlevel 3 will be more suitable?
<2> no, it will not.
<0> mock as long as you want, i don't mind, but i have to see what's wrong with that machine
<0> so brb
<2> they have to see it offline to notice
<2> Juni: why do you think you can repair it?
<2> damn, they think that repairing a machine will make them real hackers.
<0> level_ if you haven't knew there is a distinction between a script-kiddie and a hacked, i wrote those lines because you wanted me to wrote them, i supposed that you will feel better after you will read that lines. please stop making supposions concerning me because you are getting ennoying
<6> hi.. does anyone have any ideea where from could i get an older version of redhat? 6.1 , 6.2 .. at most 7.0
<6> please
<3> Local library?
<3> Why would you want such a thing?
<6> very slow computer :)
<3> They're quite dangerous
<3> You might be better off with Debian
<6> oh, i'm not gonna go online with them :) i just want to experiment an old feeling :)
<1> unlike windows newer linux will run just as good as older
<3> Not if you're doing GUI
<1> depends on the gui
<6> i like gnome :)
<6> i had redhat 6.2 on cd but the cd is so old my drive won't read it anymore :(
<3> Will it read in any drive?
<6> nope :(
<7> themaxxz: thats the truth... to be honest, there aren't that many diffs between old linux releases and newer ones, to be honest.. same commands and everything, just 'newer' versions of the same software
<7> TheRealMe: did it ever read it?
<6> yeah, it did.. back in the old days
<7> TheRealMe: is the driver 8x or slower?
<3> http://xfiles.erin.utoronto.ca/pub/unix/redhat/6.2/iso/
<6> no way, it's my own dvdrw+dl drive :P
<6> thanks a lot, longword
<6> that sounds like what i'm looking for :D
<6> many thanks!

<6> hey, i never had 2 cds for that release.. :\
<7> TheRealMe: is the cdrom scratched at all? I had an issue on my Alpha where it couldnt read the cd.. just burned a copy of it, and that one worked fine... it was simply the disk [or what ever] was going sour
<3> http://redhat.lsu.edu/dist/6.2/iso/
<6> OptimusPrime it's not scratched at all.. i always take good care of my cds :)
<6> i guess it's just time over low-quality discs :(
<7> TheRealMe: yea but burned cd's do go 'bad' though.. they're not as rugged as their stamped brotheren... in fact, burned cd's or nothing more than dye and plastic
<3> 'brethren'
<6> and so, my 64 kbit line started downloading a very old distro.. i'll have it in about 24 hours, it seems :D
<6> thanks a lot, folks :)
<7> TheRealMe: I was wondering, have you ever considered installing the newer release, base install.. and then installed the gui aspects of the 6.2? that way you'll have an 'up to date' box and the lightness of the older gui? they should install just fine for the most part.. even more so, if you compile them yourself
<6> that's a nice ideea, haven't thought about it that way
<7> TheRealMe: I'm sporting Redhat 7.2 [Alpha] but pretty much everything is updated and optimized for my box...so it runs fairly decent and looks nice on the desktop front as well
<6> maybe i'll give it a go one of these days, i hope i won't get stuck at things :P
<6> hey, my isp just waived the proxy download limit :)
<6> download size, that is
<6> hehehe
<7> TheRealMe: I tried to compile as much as i could with Compaq C.. equates to good speed and good stability... you would be surprised how much software runs better, when compiled with a strict ANSI C compiler...
<8> i need help :(
<7> moobie: tell me about it
<7> moobie: did you check the topic when you joined?
<9> hello there
<9> i have a small network with a homeserver
<9> mixed windows/linux machines
<9> id like to have a domain name system, so that names like layla are resolved to their IP address and reverse resolvability to work too
<9> first of all, how do i do this without making it complicated
<9> secondly, is this going to clash with netbios name services
<7> Niteye: try something like samba... that will do the trick.. Windows will use the computer name, just as though it was a reg'd domain name... and its shorter to type out as well
<7> Niteye: if you want the same for the linux boxes, you will have to add them to the /etc/hosts file... the computer name/ip
<9> aight thanks
<7> Niteye: np
<10> You can use said names in Linux as well.
<11> i installed FC4 and after installation ther was no grub boot loader and i used fc rescue cd and i installed grub from there and now i have a real problem , when i rebooted the winxp boot loader was gone and all i got now is the grub console , i tried to [root (hd0,7) -> setup (hd0)] and rebooted , and all i got is grub console again , any suggestions please ?
<12> Who is using Smoothwall Express ?
<13> somebody somewhere is
<13> reality_=reality_
<2> Juni: why am i annoying you? is it because you are romanian and you think you are not a script kiddie but a real hacker. if you would've been a hacker you'd wrote something useful and probably coded a own exploit, and would've had no need of fixing a chmod binary. that is not hacking, it is lame.
<14> So doing something immoral with better skills than his would not be lame?
<14> this kind of attitude is fueling the kiddies. They crave to be real hackers
<13> How about go out and get a real job?
<14> I was thinking more along the lines of hang in front of large crowd, but I guess your solution is more constructive
<15> dont be so hard on him :)
<13> If he's doing illegal activity, why shouldn't we be hard on him?
<16> because illegal might not be necessary wrong
<16> who are you to judge people you dont know about
<17> T`aZ: Who are you to judge him judging him?
<16> imho, people saying 'its illegal blabalalb', are far worse than the others
<17> T`aZ: HYPOCRITE
<16> but i guess it's too much offtopic
<13> T`aZ: How exactly are we worse than the others?
<16> reality_: because you think by the law, not by what's good/bad
<13> T`aZ: Do you want to wake up in the morning and realize, "Oh hell...my box got hacked. Got to reinstall everything."
<16> ie, not by yourself
<13> T`aZ: That's bs.
<13> T`aZ: Having your machine hacked = bad.
<17> T`aZ: So you don't mind if people criticise him based on their morals?
<13> T`aZ: If you don't think it's bad, I'd be more than happy for you to give me admin access on your machine...seeing as it's obviously not a bad thing in your opinion.
<16> where did i say that hacking a machine was good
<13> T`aZ: QED...this discussion was about hacking a machine.
<14> You didn't, but you did say that we shouldn't be judging him. Thus, we shouldn't even get to asking ourselves if it's good or bad.
<18> somebody help me ?
<16> and mine was about 164727< reality_> If he's doing illegal activity, why shouldn't we be hard on him?
<13> Pertaining to the conversation...keep up
<14> T`aZ: so basically you loathe the laws for being laws and thus everything invoking the concept must be dismissed.
<16> i never said that
<14> 17:53 < T`aZ> reality_: because you think by the law, not by what's good/bad
<19> can we end this pointless discussion?
<4> Are you guys done?
<4> heh
<19> like, now ?
<14> no!
<19> .o
<17> Revenger: you big meanie!
