<0> hey guys, has anyone here used unattended?
<0> I have set up a windows 2003 server as a host/dhcp/dns and I am trying to install xp pro retail over the network. If I use the DOS boot disc, the setup runs flawlessly until it gets to the blue setup screen to begin copying, it just stops completely. The Linux boot disc does not get past the install.pl script, just freezes in the dos emu menu.
<1> lo
<1> :)
<2> does anyone know (for mandriva 2006) where i can put a command to be executed once at boot time? on SuSE it goes in /etc/init.d/boot.local but that file doesn't exist on mandriva...
<3> toucan see if it has a /etc/rc.d/rc.local script
<2> ScoT, that looks like just what i needed :) thanks!
<3> yw
<4> hullo, scot.
<3> hi disc
<5> ScoTness
<3> code
<6> hi guys is there anyway to browse a windows directory in Ubuntu? Windows is on a different PC but they both are on the same network
<5> M27UK, have a look at smbclient
<6> codebook: thanks I'll try it now :)
<7> M27UK: if you have KDE, Konq can handle it..

<6> I've Gnome but I think I should be able to run Konq here?
<5> sure
<6> if I do then how would I map to Windows share?
<5> M27UK, you can also mount it like other filesystems via "mount -t smbfs"
<5> i thought you just want to browse the shares
<6> yes I just want to copy some MP3 files from Windows PC onto my linux box
<8> M27UK use ftp from windows to you linux box
<5> that requires an ftp daemon. makes it more complicated that it needs to be
<5> s/that/than/
<5> i'd try OptimusPrime's suggestion first
<6> well I'm using Ubuntu and it doesn't have Konq so that's out of question! :(
<8> why if i start httpd the msg always notice me Starting httpd: egrep (GNU grep) 2.5.1
<7> M27UK: using Gnome? I thought it came with KDE... if so, nautilus should be able to handle it as well
<8> how to fix thats
<7> sapi: probably an iffy /etc/init.d/httpd or /etc/init.d/apache startup script
<6> Ubuntu uses GNome while Kbuntu comes with KDE
<7> M27UK: well, browse the network using Nautilus..all it needs is samba to be installed... it should have been built with samba support
<9> Yeah, that isn't a bot. I already msged him to change his nick
<7> who's running HellHound ? that last guy they kick wasn't a bot!>!>!>!
<7> Run: yea I was just talking to him as well
<9> It kicks me too, for flooding - when I paste something relevant to help someone. I hate bots.
<9> On my channel no bots (and no kicking)
<3> i dunno, i think the hound does more good than harm
<9> Well, at least you can say '****' here. Man I hate channel where you are automatically kick/banned for that.
<8> OptimusPrime thanks i got on scripts
<9> channels*
<7> sapi: np
<9> That is plain stupid.
<3> its the 2 in his nick
<10> the *2? rule
<3> because of those red bots
<9> yes, but bots don't change their nick.
<9> Besides, the *2?!* attempts to catch ages, 20, 21, ... 29, not 2k.
<3> true
<9> hellhound is just broken/stupid
<7> ScoT: ya thats what I just noticed and told him... he was afraid of 'losing' his nick
<10> it's *2? not *2[:digit:]
<11> whats the command to check what version of linux you have
<7> AnTiTarzan: uname -a
<7> AnTiTarzan: uname -r
<9> If you mean reg.exp. that would be .*[[:digit:]]
<11> thanks OptimusPrime
<9> lol
<7> Run: guess you saw that to
<9> He's now telling their customer to type 'uname -a' ;)
<3> yeah he's back on the phone now
<3> heh
<7> Run: yea that's what I was thinking *lol*
<9> The client needed to know what debian release they are running, but ok :p
<7> Run: tell you something funny... years ago I was working the phones as a tech support rep... we had, what we thought anyways, was a anal retentive supervisor...so one day, just to mess with him a bit... I had a caller on the line and just as he walked by I said "I don't know, lemme check'... then reached over and picked up a magic 8 ball and shook it then read it to him... he about died
<7> Run: the bad thing was, the Magic 8ball was right
<9> What is a magic 8 ball?
<7> Run: you got to be kidding? Its universal: http://tinyurl.com/rxfoy
<7> http://www.indra.com/8ball/front.html info about the BALL
<12> Is thery any site that you can connect through Lynx and have online an internet speed test?
<7> dslreports used to have a speed test but I think it was all gui
<3> [-Varvaros-] look for bogospeed
<7> Run: so, you never seen a magic 8 ball?

<12> scot is that online?
<3> its a little script [-Varvaros-] that estimates the connection speed to your ISP
<12> i google it but nothing relative
<3> uses traceroute and bing iirc
<12> r u sure its spelled like that?
<3> positive
<9> OptimusPrime: never
<9> I don't think they sell them here either.
<7> Run: whoa I thought it was pretty well known... its been around since the 70s at least
<7> Run: you ask it a question... shake it... then turn it over and look through the little window... a text msg will apear with real vague 'predictions'
<7> hikari_: wb
<8> OptimusPrime can i pv
<7> pm you mean? yea
<8> yups
<8> pm
<8> if you not bussy
<7> sure go ahead...was the apache init script giving you problems?
<7> sapi: you still there?
<3> [-Varvaros-] look for bing then
<8> yeps
<7> sapi: oh, is your ip 211.189.*.*?
<8> no
<10> wow

<18> if my heatsink is too big for my motherboard, and it sets on the capacitors around the cpu socket is there anyway to buffer the heat sink ?
<18> i have a LGA775 intel celeron d and a m***cool p4 fan
<19> With how many CPUs have you seen a CPU cluster ?
<20> 42!
<18> well the cluster of capacitors is on the motherboard
<18> around the cpu socket
<18> it is a gigabyte motherboard
<19> aha
<19> what was the command to see the files with their permission
<19> like ls
<19> something
<19> -l
<21> Ok, I am trying to unmount a drive and I cannot figure out what is using it. Is there any way to see what process(es) are using the drive?
<14> lsof
<21> reality,
<21> bash 25919 amiller cwd DIR 22,0 16384 1 /mnt/storage
<21> su 25943 root cwd DIR 22,0 16384 1 /mnt/storage
<14> dinux: cd ~
<14> dinux: Then umount /mnt/storage
<21> Tried that
<7> dinux: looks like you're in the dir //mnt/storage... thus keeping it 'locked'
<14> Try exit, then cd ~ then lsof /dev/hdwhatever then umount
<14> rather sudo umount
<21> Thanks
<21> Not I need to figure out how to format it via vfat so I can copy all of my stuff back to it. I thought it was vfat but I got a file size limit exceeded error.
<22> How do I burn an iso CD in *nix
<22> the easiest possible way
<10> k3b
<10> xcdroast, bashburn...
<22> II waant somethingg whhere I could
<22> burn debian-3.r1.is /edv/hdc
<23> Can anyone tell me a reliable source to get the gtk+-devel package? I'm trying to install xmms, which requires the gtk-config file, which is not, apparently, installed with gtk+ itself, but rather with the devel package, which is nowhere to be found on gtk.org. :)
<24> rpmfind.net has it in RPM format, but I have SuSE 10.1 and I have no idea which RPM would be best for my system.
<10> suse doesn't include xmms? odd.
<24> It does, but it doesn't play MP3's.
<24> Since it's German
