<0> hello, does anyone have an idea for what might cause my mouse cursor to suddenly disappear ? i'm running SuSE 10.0, with KDE, and the cursor comes back when i use ctrl-alt-backspace to exit KDE. i've run rkhunter and it comes up clean. i did have the machine slightly overclocked but it's been running fine for 2 weeks, and the only problem is the mouse cursor, i could still give commands through the keyboard... <1> lol <2> mailsman20 , get lost. <3> mailsman20, what? <4> Gnome is so much more nicer looking than MS Windows <4> http://d1f.org/~phalcon/images/Screenshot.png <4> I have'nt tried the other X windows like KDE yet <2> kirt : I think my windowmaker looking the best :) <5> my ratpoison 0wnz j00 <5> ratpoison.nongnu.org <4> c_wolf, got a screenshot ? <2> Jeez, bronaugh , that looks like an emacs/fvwm hybrid :) <2> Lemme see kirt , maybe Fiona knows.. <2> !windowmaker <6> well, windowmaker is the BRAZILIAN window manager, flexible and highly configurable. Developed by Alfredo K. Kojima <kojima@conectiva.com.br>.
<2> Not really... <5> c_wolf: yeah, it owns :) <5> it's actually usable... unlike many wms <2> Define 'usable' ... <5> usable as in it doesn't get in my way or waste my time. <5> except when I am way overtired like I was last night. <2> Sorry kirt , the official site seems to be down, maybe http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windowmaker . <2> Well, bronaugh , then wmaker is usable for me too *g* . <7> hello bronaugh, othels. <2> Hey Viking667. <5> yo Viking667 <5> c_wolf: I just don't use the mouse much. I'm trying to learn how to do pretty much everything without any mouse usag. <7> others, rather. I can't seem to type quite the same with a sore finger. I dis***embled a fan, and it bit me. <5> usage. <2> bronaugh , yeah, thats why i use the console mostly on wmaker :) <5> maybe you should consider ratpoison, wmii, or ion then. <5> ratpoison's definitely the most wacky/bigoted/wierd of the bunch. <2> Well, i am not a big emacs friend, so i fear i wont be a good friend with ratpoison ... <7> I couldn't get my head around ratpoison. I could never remember how the hell to bring up the menu. <5> C-t ? <7> See? <7> I couldn't remember that. <2> Hehe! <5> ? for help <5> C-t is prefix key. <5> nothing too fancy on that one. <7> mmmmm. <2> What are you actualy using , Viking667 ? <7> E <7> combined with gnome <5> wmii's quite a bit more friendly. <2> What is E ?! <5> Enlightenment. <5> or Ecstacy. but that's not a WM. <3> =mc^2 ? <7> Enlightenment, though I haven't got E17 yet, though I want to. <2> Ah, that one... if i remember right... i found it too expensive in terms of ressources. <7> Why do you think I've given up on kde? <7> tell ya what, on Mandriva, my system runs slower than a run-over dog. <2> Why do you think i set my use-flags to -kde ? :D <7> mmmmm. I don't really have the resources to compile everything... and given the CPU overheats I'd rather not melt it. <2> Ach, the CPU is happy when it gets some emerge jobs to do :) <7> not for me. <2> Why not ? Do you run SETI ? :) <7> I have a K6-II@533 MHZ, with not a proper heatsink. <2> That hurts then... <2> What happened with it ? <7> The motherboard arrived here originally with no heatsink. <2> Damn.... how`s that possible ? Asus ? <7> Naah. Was a freebie. Came in a pretty pink coloured case that had been someone's throw-away. The guy rang me and said "I've got an old computer bit here, do you want it?" I thought he meant an XT that had been used as a cash register or something. <7> At the time I got it, I was using a SiS mobo with a Cyrix MII-300 on it, and 64MB of 72-pin memory. <7> So as you can imagine, I had to find some 168-pin memory <7> ... oh, and a heatsink. <7> I had to toss the case, as it had no PSU nor sides. <4> The host OS I am using is a fast 3 ghz win2k machine with 2 GB of RAM, so when I use ubuntu as a guest VM, I can pretty much adjust as much CPU/RAM I want to devote for linux <2> Now i see Viking667 .... <7> And I've had that K6-II for ... ooo.... three years now? /me guesses <4> right now, I devoted 256 MB to Ubuntu and its running like speed lightning <8> the k6-2 is very nice <8> i have 3 of them here.
<2> Ok, in this case i must be honest and say, gentoo plays on a p4 :) <2> And i`m bored when it wants to emerge X again... <8> now that reminds me, one of the k6-2 boxes started acting really wierd few days ago. it hangs at boot :/ <7> oh. Not good. Reseat anything pluggable, try again. <8> Viking667: tried that. no go.. the ram is alright (even tested it on the other box) <7> mrmmm. <8> i wonder if the mobo broke :/ <7> I have a mobo here that's decided to up chips and die on me... even though the memory's fine, the CPU's fine, and the discs are fine. <8> that means losing a box. since there are no mobos for it around here anymore.. <8> Viking667: i havn't had time to check it. I have a test tomorrow, so maybe i'll have time after i'm done with the test. <8> I was going to setup the box as a server. too bad things don't go as you plan :/ <8> it's really weird. after everything failed, I tried running winxp installation CD on it. it worked until the middle of the installation process. <9> any aptitude buffs in the house? I can't figure out why it thinks I want it to get rid of gnucash... >:| <7> what does gnucash depend upon? <9> lots of stuff I'm sure <9> it says that its unused, and should be removed <7> unused? like crap <7> are you using it? <9> occasionally <9> once a month really <10> Evening Spam <10> 'lo Viking <7> hello longword <11> hiya longword <9> apt is confusing me <5> SpamapS: how's that? <9> I just did a dist-upgrade in sarge.. after about 8 months without one.. :-P <12> eh up long <9> it wants to get rid of all kinds of stuff <12> finally working in this data centre <9> gnucash.. xfce4-themes... very weird <12> great fun, learning about clustering and nagios <5> SpamapS: lol <5> yeah... I recently upgraded parents' box. <5> just keep track of the packages it wants to remove, and try and reinstall them alter. <5> later. <5> probably easiest and cleanest. <9> ugh it wants to remove gnome-terminal! :-| <5> lol <13> hi <5> hmm, what do I do in situations like that... <13> anyone for help me :) <5> just apt-get install gnome-terminal. <5> see what happens. <5> it'll fetch it from new archive, and maybe it'll help you figure out what's up/ <9> its running the latest version <9> it wants to remove capplets too <5> did you upgrade those 2 already? <13> i find a scipt tcsh for change a file in 8.3 caracteres <13> exemple = edrfderf.exe <13> if other lage cut <13> large <13> anyone help me ? <5> eh? <12> i need some recommendations for a distro to run nagios <13> i find script for cut the name of file in 8.entension <12> i've got this server that is refusing to take and rh variant <12> http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/showthread.php?threadid=300447 <12> and =any <12> apparently my coworker tried ubuntu server and that failed too at some hotswap detection stage <12> i was wondering whether i could use a live cd and start an install like that <5> TiTuS: look into the "cut" program. <13> where is a cut progrm ? <13> please <5> installed already. on your system. <10> Right. Today's the day I learn about ssh-agent <10> Who wants to volunteer to learn me? :) <11> that must be the secret enrypted government dude... <10> It looks simple enough <10> Just a matter of figuring out how best to make use of it - common practice as it were <11> well its an X thing so doubt i would use it <10> Wikipedia offers http://mah.everybody.org/docs/ssh
