<0> Redragon^: what client?
<1> level` i've never had the luxory of dsl of any form but if your getting the adsl from company b company a shouldn't charge you
<2> hiyas
<1> pirch
<3> level`: better check regulations on that
<4> nope
<0> ah. haven't used that in ages...
<3> at least in Canada there's some shafty charges regarding a "wireless infrastructure fee" or such with cell phones.
<5> because my *next* adsl provider does not specify that... but i'm going to check it out.. ouh ouh
<1> level` be warned there are 2 charges to adsl (or any other connection) when dealing with 2 companies
<6> well im gonna go grab my linux box and drag it down here so i can test learning how to bridge
<3> which is basically a monpoly perpetuation fund.
<7> can anyone help me? I have a Billion BIPAC 6600 and it can't connect to my motorola cable modem. I am using blueyonder in the uk
<1> 1 charge for the dsl line itself and 1 charge for the internet connection for the dsl
<8> What ware we bridging?
<6> my _other_ linux box

<1> so if you got a dsl thru your phone company but use a different isp you probably get 2 bills
<5> Redragon^ it's adsl over PSTN, my current line.
<6> dunno why i call it "my linux box" ... all my boxes are linux
<8> Is that not more of a NAT/Masquerade job?
<8> Evening Gaia
<1> over pstn?
<4> chris_tucker where do i paste the output?
<2> longword ! i am Innocent!
<5> Redragon^ that's what it says.
<1> i stated early this morning use iptables instead of that stuff you were trying to use
<6> !paste
<9> More than 3 lines? Paste your stuff at http://paste.getlinuxhelp.org/ and then tell us the url it gives you.
<6> filthix, there
<1> level` then your probably getting adsl from phone company and internet service from 3rd party
<4> k its pasted
<1> longword I think we should take donations for a bounty to find and torture the dude that come up with the idea for FP extensions
<8> Gaia: Of course you are
<8> Redr: You know what his defense is going to be don't you
<1> innocent as a 15 year old preacher's daughter
<8> "I was only following orders"
<2> longword i isnt!
<5> no no. adsl ( all package ) is from another company
<5> and the phone line is another company
<4> http://paste.getlinuxhelp.org/1942
<1> longword they coming to install sat dish for internet tomorrow
<5> but when i enter my phone number and my phone line ( PSTN ) it says adsl available.
<1> would have done it today but its raining rather hard here
<1> level` unfortunately i dont have a clue cause they didn't extend dsl out here in the boonies
<1> thats why they are installing a dish tomorrow hehe
<5> heh
<1> hopefully i wont have to cut any trees down
<3> hey.
<3> you could have an unfortunate accident falling trees onto the FP designer
<3> now we have means and motive.. just opportunity now.
<1> nice idea, but have to find him and place him in the target area, maybe use twinkies and cafinated drinks as bait
<3> that'd work.
<1> damn i need more computers but that means i also need more room to put the computers in
<10> $!@%$!@#%!@#
<1> longword i didn't realize xeons were HT also
<11> what is the de-facto tool that is used for doing network backups on linux boxes nowadays? does everyone still use tar?
<3> danq: sup
<1> JayFo i use rsync to a server dedicated to backups
<10> wordup, dawg.
<10> Just got to the dungeon.
<10> er, I mean work.
<3> hah
<1> longword that PE looking good
<3> at least you don't have to hack crufty old climate models written in Matlab so that they'll work under Octave.
<11> does rsync allow you to use different credentials for different machines? or do they all have to be using the same set of credentials for backups?
<4> hmm weird now it seems to have worked
<10> ..
<10> suppose not
<4> i just tried to move different mp3s to it and it worked
<4> are certain mp3 files encoded differently
<1> jayfo I setup special rsync configurations using straight rsync but you can do it multiple ways
<11> like... my employer wants to backup several third parties filesystems... and those third parties have different backup user credentials
<3> danq: the good thing is that this might result in no more Matlab.
<3> ... which would make me overjoyed.
<1> you can use straight rsync (which requires rsync server configuration on one end) or you can use rsync thru ssh
<11> I'll do some research on rsync then... thanks red :-)
<1> no prob

<4> Chris_Tucker: thanx for the help
<1> there are also other things like amanda, but i've not used it
<12> say i have 10 directories that have a subdirectory called CVS
<12> how do i erase all the CVS directories with a single command?
<3> find . -name "CVS" -exec rm -rf {} \;
<12> rm -rf ./*/CVS will work, but what about if there are nested direcores
<12> cool thanks
<3> dangerous of course.
<3> but you should know that.
<12> yes
<12> well i'm trying to remove teh CVS cause i'm going to put it on the web
<3> isn't there like "cvs export"?
<12> i should man that
<12> let me check
<12> got it bronaugh_ thansk a lot
<3> no prob.
<13> does anyone know of any data recovery software for linux that can scan ntfs format or other formats?
<14> I can't mount my hd anymore, I did fdisk /dev/hde and then "n" created a primary partition and then added /dev/hde /yenihd ext3 defaults 1 1 to /etc/fstab but when I say mount -a, it says mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/hde
<14> (It's a new hd by the way)
<14> what am I doing wrong?
<14> mkfs -t ext3 -j /dev/hde1 = I think I found it :) I forgot to format it again :p thanks anyways
<15> hey guys I'm having a problem with a custom kernel/distro and tc. I am running 2.4.31 on a mips arch and I get a segfault when I try set the built in scheduler ona n interface. in other words when I use tc to set the root node of eth1 to pfifo fast.
<15> they start as pfifo_fast then I lets say attach a htb filter then delete it and try set it back to pfifo fast.
<5> does this sound cheap/expensive to you for a ADSL line activation? 34E? is it /month or lifetime ?
<15> thats when I get a segfault.
<1> or mkfs.ext3 /dev/hde1
<5> because it doesn't precisate it.
<1> you can't mount /dev/hde you have to mount /dev/hde#
<16> If 34E is anywhere close to US, I'd say it's about right and it's per month.
<14> oh, yeah I forgot the hde1 ;) Thanks Redragon^
<5> CeruleanD: greece, so it's per month ?
<1> mkfs is linux format :)
<1> so if you have data on /dev/hda1 you dont wanna format it, if its a new partition you must format it before you can mount
<14> I first thought of adding it as a VLM
<16> I would guess so, if it's lifetime or annual, I'm moving to Greece
<14> but I heard it's dangerous for backups
<16> What is the Grecian monetary currency (pre-Euro)?
<14> it's hard to recover
<16> If they went to Euros, I don't even know that much
<14> so I won't go in that..at least for now.
<16> We should all convert to "Credits", like all the futuristic sci-fi novels talk about. The world on one currency
<5> :)
<1> longword i think i'll do the irish thing now, irish coffee, caffene and a way to deal with the idiots...
<11> the problem with going to credits, is that rich people wouldn't have any incentive to have the lesser countries get bombed.... inflating their own countries currency value.
<17> good evening everybody
<17> long time no see
<11> and if each credit had a corresponding record in a database, it would be very difficult for rich people to cheat on their taxes... so they would resort to doing blue collar crime, and thats a lot messier than white collar crime :-)
<17> geez, GnR still sound good. Haven't listened to them for ages, but I'm glad to rediscover a great band.
<18> you could be miiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiine :p
<19> does anybody knows a good program to download music?
<10> soulseek
<17> oh yes... I'm listening to their Live Era 87-93 now. One of the best live albums ever, imho.
<1> to download music?
<20> Cool! I get to upgrade!
<1> oh since your upgrading and i'm taking make sure you throw in a pci-e 16x sli mb, an amd 4800 dual core, 2 ati x1900xtx, and 4 1gig dimms pls
<1> hehe
<21> .o
<8> Any sed/awk experts in the house?
<8> Evening them
<21> evening
<21> not an expert but I did read a bit up on sed for my lpi
<8> OK. Objective is to find the device on which the default route resides
<8> route=`/sbin/ip route list 0.0.0.0/0 | head -1 | \
<8> sed -e 's/^.* via \([.0-9]*\) dev \([^ ]*\)/\2/'`
<8> Which works fine when all is well, and when there's no default route
<8> But it would be nice to do something sensible if the output of /sbin/ip doesn't match the pattern I've got
<20> hi longword
<8> I could do a grep -v
