<0> is there a bug in kernel that allow spoofed pakets to make high cpu load?
<1> longword dont think so why?
<2> ok, I've obviously not succeeded in purging all of last night's alcohol from my system yet. :/
<3> I mean, if I'm spamming something without knowing it, it's definitely not coming up on my screen.
<2> taladan: heh, that was very dislexic of me.. presumably you're being accused of spamming when someone else joins, not when you join. :)
<4> Jadey: Reasonably sure you were separated at birth
<1> lol
<3> weird...but now I wonder why people don't like me....hell i get banned before I even get a chance to speak....should've gone with rightguard.
<2> hah
<1> ok.... :P
<5> taladan: perhaps you're being caught in a very broad ban already set
<3> Thanks for helping me troubleshoot that though....I like to think of myself as a pretty easy going type person, and it was making me mad *laughs*
<3> kodon- *nods* I suppose so
<2> no spam from you here
<4> Gaia: You'll hear it again sooner or later

<6> longword hmm ok
<2> taladan: I've never been in #linuxschool, but I do know that some channels are just plain unfriendly :)
<0> i guess this inisble mode ****s
<3> that stands to reason
<3> I mean...why let everyone use FOSS? Then it'd just become pandemic.
<0> is there a mode to stop ddos atacks not to make high cpu load ?
<3> think of it...the next Linux Birdflu or something.
<3> Don't do DDoS attackes?
<3> or is someone else attacking you?
<0> my ksoftirqd_CPU0 is getting high load
<0> due to ddos
<0> from fpoofed ips
<0> spoofed
<0> how can i stop the irq daemon not to get
<0> high load ?
<0> do you know taladan?
<0> does anyone know?
<3> I know that if you're getting ping flooded, just set up your firewall not to respond to ICMP packets. You /do/ have a firewall right?
<0> that was done and does not work
<0> is not ping flooded you kid
<0> is ddos
<3> Thank you for ***uming that I'm a kid for starting simple.
<3> And for that, I hope you find the answer to your question ;)
<0> i need a real solution
<0> one that can all use
<0> not kids play
<7> lol, Methos found the solution
<7> :)
<3> frackin' depressing, getting old.
<5> 30 is old? sheesh
<8> haha, now it threatens me to send some 'problems' my way, seems he's as stupid as the guys he's dealing with
<3> Noooo
<8> time to extend the ban just a little bit
<3> 30 is 'getting old'
<2> youngins :/
<3> I won't be 'old' until I'm dead ;)
<3> tojoe- well...I /was/ going to ask him why he was getting DDoS'd. But, eh. That would indicate I actually gave three/fifths of a damn.
<3> you know, I was looking at a flyer with the costs of 4 & 5 day RHCE training programs with the exam at the end...I'm too poor to become an RHCE....
<2> tell me about it
<2> unless my work paid for it, there's no way I could afford it with my current net income
<3> I mean...seriously...5,000.00 for the /lowest/ level of certification? *cries* I'm in school now trying to get my freakin' ***ociates in Network admin along with the various alphabet certs and they want me to pay more than what my /car/ is worth to take the RHCE? Maybe if I ever get a career with good benefits and an actualy survivable salary.
<9> mayby you die trying
<9> redhat is bad for the soul
<4> tala: Typically it's companies that pay for the certs more than individuals
<4> tala: Same with CC**
<3> if redhat is bad for the soul then I guess I need to stop worrying about getting my MCSE as well because that makes Windoze Hell Incarnate (tm)
<9> ask around
<9> do cisco
<9> is better
<3> ??
<3> Why do you think I'm not going to?
<3> might take me three years and two bank loans to do it, but that's my goal for right now.
<10> taladan: why don't you just get a college degree? CIS maybe?
<10> taladan: it would most likely be worth more... you could rely more on the 'paper' than friends/luck
<3> I'm getting an ***ociates Degree in CIS Networking as we speak ;)

<10> taladan: going to say... that's what I'm going for as well.. will finish things up either this fall or spring...depending on how many credits I go far
<10> far/for
<3> I figure with that and those certs and my little bit of experience with computers I can hopefully get a good middle of the road Admin job /somewhere/...of course the IT market in Valdosta GA is less than huge...so, I'll either end up in a local school system, bank, or end up having to move to Atlanta or Savannah.
<3> I'd also like to get certified ethical hacker, but...depends on how much hair I've lost when I finish with my current list of cl***es.
<10> taladan: or maybe moving to India ;-) That is where everyone is outsourcing IT jobs... one thing you can definately do, use the degree and the like, to get you a job in another, totally unrelated, field ;-)
<10> taladan: I jest, but I have considered it
<11> dude, i've only just joined the conversation but certs are no replacement for experience
<3> Well, what I'm actually angling for is the fact that our city just got 'metro' status a couple years ago, so it's growing quite exponentially....and since I've maintained a 4.0 hopefully I'll be able to get a job ;)
<10> mattw: or paper
<3> mattw- Very true. But since I've only been working with computers for the last 10 years on my own and I've only been getting paid for doing it for the last 3 years, I don't really have that much of a choice.
<10> taladan: a 4.0 isn't too shabby.. will definately help... a friend of the family has a CIS degree ... he was on a academic scholarship the whole way... he got a job, manager, setting up offices all over the country...makes over 75 grand a year and works about 7mos of the year to boot... all travel/stay/auto/food/etc paid as well... not bad
<11> i guess it depends what you're going for. i personally found that my work with opensource systems/softare worked wonders, but the last job i was going for was a software engineering job
<3> See that's the funny thing about experience: To get experience, you need a job. To get a job, you need experience. Kind of like driver vendors not putting out drivers for linux because there's not...that many....drivers out for linux.
<11> and the company department i was applying to did a lot of CPAN work
<11> to some extent that's nonsense, you don't need a job to get experience, you can experience from lots of different sources if you can be bothered to do so
<11> i have no doubt that i wouldn't have to my current job had i not done any opensource work
<10> mattw: thats why you need 'networking'
<3> Yeah, but around here it's non-IT people looking at your resume, so they want to see actual /paid/ experience because it's hardly 1993 in this area wrt to technology.
<11> 'networking' had nothing to do with it, this was entirely off my own back
<3> so, I still slug about teaching myself how stuff works, figuring things out on my own, and while I'm at it getting my degree and hopefully my certifications.
<10> taladan: you need to talk to LinuxTerror.... he started out like that...got a low level position, then was later made admin when they had an opening... he's about as close to a linux guru as you can get nowadays...he's starting to turn into a penguinista
<12> how can i install my ati radeon 9200 video card? i've installed kernel package
<3> I understand what you're talking about mattw, but I also know how people in this community think...so I end up doing it both ways and hopefully my name'll get around and someone'll want to shag me some $$ for all the stuff I've taught myself over the years.
<11> nowadays, in the UK you're pretty much screwed if you don't have a degree
<3> OptimusPrime- At this point, that's really the best I can hope for. If I can get a job starting between 35 and 40k/year I'll be superhappy.
<10> taladan: I know what you mean... I'm in the same boat...but I do have Windows experience...ran an IT dept with nothing but windows clients ;-)
<11> taladan, you might get lucky and get something with a small company i guess, good luck :)
<3> I've got windoze experience too, but mainly in building machines, installing, troubleshooting and repairing...some little networking experience, but I'm picking up stuff along and along from people that know me while I'm in school.
<10> taladan: a lot of places doen't want that... they want either beaucoup experience or a piece of paper...so I'm getting the paper
<10> mattw: thank you ;-)
<11> :)
<3> Hey man, on this side of the pond, you don't got a pedigree, you 'ain't shiat' as I heard some kid say the other day.
<11> wtf is a pedigree? that's a extra special dog over here
<10> mattw: the breed or ancestry of an animal ... why?
<13> mattw: pedigrees are racist.
<3> sorry, by pedigree, I mean papers, degrees and certs.
<11> erm, ok, so wtf?
<11> oh, ok
<10> oh
<11> heh, that makes sense
<13> because you're dividing animals up into races by surface genetic expression.
<13> that's bad!
<3> I don't usually make sense, so thank you ;)
<11> although a little concerning that you thought that and everybody else seemed to think somethign else! :)
<13> quit referring to dog breeds -- that's racist!
<11> any ukers here btw?
<3> Apparently not.
<11> :)
<3> I'd like to go back to London again though...it was nice ;)
<14> i know who linux_terror asks when he has a question LOL
<11> london's quite cool, tis where i am right now :)
<3> wouldn't live there or anything...too many freakin' people...but pleasant to visit and do all the touristy things.
<11> heh, there are a lot of people here
<11> those crazy yanks seem to like it though (*grin*)
<11> so i guess nobody is really interested in the world cup then, huh?
<3> I tell ya where I would live though....The Buffalo/St. Catherine's/Niagra area of NY
<3> unless you mean an award for something having to do with Linux and/or computers, not me, sorry. Don't go for football in any of its incarnations.
<10> taladan: you must love SNOW
<11> taladan, thank you for calling it by its proper name :)
