<0> guys <0> ive been installing slackware <0> but i got prob in lilo.conf <1> help <1> how can i download from my root to my pc? <2> Menumorut: by ftp <2> !ftp <3> i guess ftp is (File Transfer Protocol) This is a method of moving files from system to system using TCP/IP.. RFC 959, or http://slacksite.com/other/ftp.html <4> What exactly do you mean with "your root" anyway? <2> hey Fiver <1> server <5> morning level_ <1> i can get from my server with wget anything <2> nice host you got there, you're at RM acad? <1> how can i download into my PC from my server?
<4> Menumorut: learn how to use scp <5> yes level_ <1> :) <2> Fiver: that's nice. <5> level_: it's a paycheck <2> eheh. <2> damn i like keyboards. <6> can't i link 2 network cards at 12,5 MB ? they are linking at 10MB wich is not the best they can <5> level_: here you go: http://www.virtual-laser-keyboard.com/ <7> Dreadfull, err, 12,5? <7> u mean like link them so u can get 2 x 20Mb? <2> Fiver: i just saw that. here in .gr it's 299E <2> i don't know if it's the same product but here:http://www.plaisio.gr/IWCatProductPage.process?Catalog_Id=1&Secton_id=89&Product_Id=310114 <2> has anyone checked if it works under linux ? <5> looks like the same product at a glance <2> uhm, but i don't know if linux supports it. it should. <8> how would I use sort to sort a text file and save the results back to that same file? <2> vampirical: i would use sort file > file.temp; mv -f file.temp file <2> i don't know if the -f option in mv is necessary <5> I would use && rather than ; <5> well, actually I wouldn't do it at all, but that's just me ;) <8> heh, thanks <2> hehe. <2> Fiver: do you have any idea why oidentd doesn't work if i'm in a NAT network ? <5> eh.. been a while since I bothered with identd.. but.. <5> !ident <3> Ah, yes! See http://www.mandrakehelp.com/identd-HOWTO.html to get it running properly. Also see http://www.krnlpanic.com/tutorials/identd.php -or- See rfc1413 for dirty details <5> that mandrake doc talks about oidentd <2> thanks <2> Fiver: i can't seem to find a solution if I don't have access to the firewall. <5> no, if you don't have access to the nat box you're pretty much SOL <2> so i guess it's not possible. <5> not with oidentd afaik <2> damn. <2> i hate being over nat's <9> Fatal server error: no screens found ---> can anyone help me why my XF86Config-4 has this error? <10> Anyone around atm? <4> Whoa, now that's some patience! <2> Fiver: any other solution? <5> level_: no, I don't bother with it anymore. it's just a ~ to me :) <10> Fiver <11> hello did anybody played with icecast ? <11> i mean , i've installed icecast, but i don't know if is enouth to play live streaming media <4> DrSlk: you don't even need icecast for that, any reasonable player will let you play streams <11> Coma i want to make a stream server... <11> sorry <11> not to listen <4> Ah, ok. Well, you're all set then, provided you've got a source. <11> i read something about ices , i saw that at the previous ver of icecast <11> i just want to give a mp3 folder and listen with xmms form network <11> is icecast software enough? or i need to instal other software? <4> You'll probably need ices too then, if you want it to broadcast from a random directory. Or some audio player that's able to output to icecast <11> i see , thankyou <12> anyone knows how I can probe my video card from a console to find out the brand and model? <4> try lspci or cat /proc/pci <4> Unless you're still using an isa videocard ;) <12> thx :) <2> does anybody have any idea if xvid avi file will be played on dvd player that has divx support? <13> if it hasn't QP/GMC enabled probably <2> what is that?
<13> encoding options of xvid <4> level_: my dvd player seems to be able to handle quite a number of divx/xvid files, but it still chockes on some of them <2> ok. but chockes on what? i mean... transcoded dvd->xvid4 works ? <13> maybe <4> level_: yeah, but _some_ avi's just get displayed as crap <2> i would convert them to divx but i have lots of problems with divx codec. <13> if it doesnt, you ll probably see slowdown , that's all <4> nfi idea what makes that happen, but that's where I just hookup the laptop to the teevee ;) <2> ok, i'll just see if it works damnit! <2> like i have it near me :) <2> thanks Coma <2> what the hell is happening to unet? <4> level_: the usual :P <2> heh. <5> certainly nothing new :b <2> i just hate when these happen. <5> I hardly notice anymore <2> hehe. <2> hey Redragon^, i've seen you made personal vhost there :) <2> it suits you well hehe. <14> yea i'm usually logged in and +x so folks dont see it much anymore <2> heh. <15> 'tis but dnsspam. <2> Redragon^: why don't you post the fixes to the flaws found in 1.56 ? guess no extra time eh ? :) <14> well so far they have been in 1 file and probably will post it shortly or just spit out a new package come monday <16> Help me here? I use Linux Mandriva 2005 Limited Edition. I have AC'97 Sound Card (Driver Installed). My problem is that I can't get any MIDI sound. All the other sound workes great tho... :/ <16> Anyone here? :s <17> i have slackware and a local network, i am the gateway of the network and the other users use my server to connect to the internet, i just want to allow only specific ip's to connect to internet and block the others ips, how may i do it? <18> iptables <16> Help me here? I use Linux Mandriva 2005 Limited Edition. I have AC'97 Sound Card (Driver Installed). My problem is that I can't get any MIDI sound. All the other sound workes great tho... :/ <19> how do I ***ure that my IDE CD-ROM is running full time DMA transfer? My DVD write speed is overwhelming slow (1.6x-2.2x at most) without any other IDE-load... <19> DVD-ROM* <19> My diskdrives are fast as they should, working perfectly e.g. over ethernet/samba etc, got clean 80-conductor kables etc. <14> Andz0r whats your drive layout? <19> hm <14> i presume your first drive (boot) is hda <14> what drive is the dvd rom? <14> and a DVD rom shouldn't hav any write speed :) <19> Redragon^: DVD-writer then :p <19> Redragon^: yes. my DVD-writer is hdb1 as I remember. It's *** slave on IDE1, next to hda which is a WD 120GB 7200RPM 8MB disk :) <19> as* :s <19> typing "***" too often I guess :D <19> but I'm not writing from that disk at all. :) <19> Redragon^: any suggestions? :) I'm using k3b... in X <19> KDE even <19> for the burning <20> Is Java JRE 1.5a developmental release? <20> Or is it the latest version? <20> sorry. not 1.5a. 1.5. <13> it's a stable version <14> well first off i would put dvd as master on 2nd interface <14> this way there is no delay from conflict on interface 1 <14> see you can only read/write to 1 ide device on an interface at a time <14> if you seperate them on different interfaces you increase the speed <14> since hda is your boot/operating system drive it will be accessed alot for logs ect <14> i dont know about gui <14> just hardware and servers :) <19> Redragon^: ok. I could try putting it onto my unused 2nd IDE-channel on my PCI controller though :) <14> that should improve performance <19> :) <14> the dvd is in the linux box not a share on samba yes? <14> cause sharing dvd on samba are flakey at best <14> especially if windows is involved anywhere <19> If I'd known that it could just write to one device on the channel at a time, I would've tried it long ago :) thank you. No, the DVD isn't a share. I even got bad experiences doing that on a windows-machine ;) <14> yea sharing dvd/cdrom doesn't work well :) <14> see thats a major limitation of PATA IDE drives, can only access 1 device on interface at a time <14> SATA is sooo much better in that department and the big reason servers used SCSI for so long <20> free hushmail accounts are deleted if not accessed in each 3 week period. <19> but a even more strange thing, is that I'm having trouble with a samba printer-share. I've configured most of the smb.conf manually with pico, and my file-shares are working fine. but I also configured my printer in X, to make it a network printer. It prints the test-page with no errors, but when I'm installing it onto a windows-machine, logged into the samba with right users etc. I'm having trouble printing in windows over ethernet... <20> can you stay logged in all during these 3 weeks and simply check your mail once a day? or does access refer to logging in? <14> trulof you would have to ask the programmers <14> Andz0r i haven't ever worked with shared printers :( <3> ROOOOT has landed!
