<0> Installing software and drivers is pretty basic stuff, even a novice like me can... um... usually figure it out. :) If you go to the homepage of the manufacturer of the sound card, they should have some sort of instructions on how to install it.

<14> hi.

<14> anyone ?
<15> hi to all. i want to run mail server on my debian machine. my question is what is the neccessary configuration under hostname and hosts file if i have this domain name www.example.com?
<11> I would have thought it would be example.com not 100% Sure though, you would need to create MX records for the domain though
<15> how?
<14> do you have access to the dns servers ?
<15> yes
<14> well .. set as an MX server the name of the computer who will take care of the mails
<16> oh gods...get somebody who knows how to do it, to add you an mx...
<16> otherwise you'll break it
<11> I think that would be the best bet
<14> dragonk it's easy if he's using zoneedit for example :)
<14> now .. what the heck is the name of the tool that suse uses for update !?
<14> like .. yum - fedora ... apt - debian
<11> Im not sure

<14> this is the name of the tool that suse uses
<16> and? what do i win?
<14> dragonk a blonde :D
<18> Hello. Running FC4 here and after changing the secondary NIC things started behaving odly. Lost completely internet connectivity, routing table was screwed, cannot even connect to my son's box on LAN.
<18> I've reduced routing table to 3 entries and still nothing (well, Network is unreachable)
<14> maybe the NIC is broken ?
<18> I thought I'd give it another go by completely removing any network info on the computer but I am not sure what will that be.
<14> I once bought a new perfectly screwd !
<14> :)
<18> BitlBee, none of the nics work.
<14> ow .. dunno then..
<18> I mean, both eth0 and eth1 lost any connectivity.
<14> tripped over the cables or somethin' ?
<18> no :)
<18> This is the order of things:
<18> 1) Put in the new nic instead of one I removed some time ago and after reboot box started complaining that ther was a different MAC address and it's being ingored
<18> ..but in the same time eth0 also lost connectivity
<14> ahm .. try kudzu !
<18> 2) I tried to boot in runlevel 2 and setup network from there
<18> mind you, eth0 was multihomed, hosting 13 IP's
<18> 3) Somehow MAC addresses of two nics got mixed up in network scripts and I had to redo the manually
<18> 4) routing table looked unusually lean - with only 5-6 entries
<18> so I attempted to add and later remove most of them
<18> 5) ..i don't even know what else I was doing, mostly playing up and dowsn with net scripts and routes
<18> SO at this point it's evident I need to redo from scratch but I am not sure where does fedora keep it's backups profiles and whatnot else
<18> I remember cursing slackware years ago for it's .. rough edges. Looks like it's time to go back that way. Too much bull nowdays.
<19> darko``, you scroller! :-p
<18> mind you, i did try them fancy gui things too, but no help. :/
<18> phydoxx, :/
<18> </monologue>
<19> lol
<19> i was just kidding :/
<18> So wsa I!
<18> was to
<19> :)
<18> too even
<18> bah
<19> where have you been the last weeks?
<18> hmm, here?
<18> Except that I am on my son's computer now because mine lost connectivity.
<14> liar ! :D
<14> yey .. yast is updating !!! yupiii
<20> Hey, anyone knows what happened to my bootSplash ?
<19> darko``, you need to work more on Edward E. Drop's software :D
<20> all of the sudden i get verbose mode
<14> woo .. the wabbit is back :D
<14> I knew I saw some big white ears around here ..
<19> BitlBee, but this whitewabbit has green ears
<21> Hello, for many months I was trying to track down a problem, but I couldn't;
<21> Debian woody- Icewm
<14> who ares .. they'll be white after I'm finished with them..
<19> LadyByte, bootSplash?
<19> ah, LadyByte doesnt know what a bootSplash is, also
<21> whenever I returm from terminal [ctrll-alt-F7], my mouse cursor become veeeeery slow.
<21> please, does someone know the fix for the problem ?
<21> someone said it's about conflict of GPM and Wm; I was trying to track down conflicts, and I found nothing
<19> hm. whitewabbit seems to be quite pissy since themaxxz didnt greet him
<21> all is installed by debian defaults, or recompiled, messing with source, it didn't help.
<21> I am desperate, please help
<19> slikar, on xfree86 you have problems with gpm under X11
<21> no, I have problem only under X11, IceWM
<19> nothing you can do about it
<21> In terminal, no problems at all, ever under gpm
