<0> web, mail, shell, game?
<1> shell.. for running eggdrops
<1> eggdrops and psys
<0> why would you ever do that? psy are evil, bots are generally used for trouble making
<0> its kinda silly to allow eggdrops and bouncers and not expect them to be attacking people
<0> of course they are attacking people, thats what the bots and bouncers are for
<1> no dude
<2> redragon: Again, you have to understand... he's a cracker. They're not too bright.
<0> now i can't say that here, some folk are just gulible enough to run shell servers for profit thinking everyone is gonna be nice
<1> the most users uses psybnc for keeping nick 24h/7 in irc.. and bot for channel protection
<1> I told that the most are..
<2> Pauloo: Sure they are.
<1> everywhere there are some guys who likes to make bad things
<0> Pauloo why do you need a bot when you can register the channel?
<1> omg
<1> I just provide services

<1> does X offers flood protection? No
<1> does X offers join flood protection? No
<2> Pauloo: Sure you do.
<0> i understand that, what i'm saying is as long as you provide that service there will be people using it to attack other machines
<1> yes
<1> and that's What I wanna block
<1> there's a software
<1> that makes ddos
<1> I'd like to detect this software
<1> or even limit the number of proccess for certain users
<2> Imagine that! There's only one software application that performs a DDOS. Only *one*!
<0> Pauloo all you can do is check everything running and make sure its not doing something bad
<1> is that possible?
<0> unfortunately with eggdrops and tcl scripts your not going to be able to do that
<2> That was sarcasm, by the way.
<1> no
<1> look
<1> there thousand of milions
<1> but here.. guys know only one
<1> :P
<2> Pauloo: Sure they do.
<1> well.. guys please
<1> could you help me somehow?
<1> anything is better then nothing
<0> Pauloo all you can do is physically verify every process you have running, check every crontab for things that would run on a schedule, ect
<0> but bots themselves can be used to run the attacks themselves
<0> when they do that then its gonna look like just a bot running
<1> hu,
<1> hum
<1> well.. but bot attacks are under responsability of the network
<1> ircops can care of them
<0> thats kinda silly dont you think, you provide the means for a bot to attack or probe a host (not just an irc host) but ircops have to take all their time tracking them down and removing them just because they are connected to their network?
<0> the bot itself may take no action at all against the irc network, only using the irc network for communications so folks can tell them to do their deeds
<1> dude
<1> attack bots can be runned even in user's home
<1> I'm not intending to run that kind of bots
<0> now why do you think they use shell services then?
<1> and I don't provide services just for undernet
<0> Pauloo you may not intend it but thats what ppl will use it for
<1> Well.. I give up
<0> and do you think ppl only use undernet for these tasks?
<1> You have a too bad sighty of people
<0> Pauloo what i'm saying is you can't be sure of what they are doing
<0> Pauloo i'm an admin, i see the attacks by the thousands every day
<1> And I already told I kno
<1> And I already told I know
<1> and I wanna a kind of block it
<0> i dont have bad sight of people, i just know whats going on
<1> I'm sure there's a way
<0> and i'm telling you that you will spend every waking moment trying to keep them from attacking things
<1> ok.. so you have a crytstal ball?
<1> :|Z
<1> I know there are some stupid guys that make such things
<1> but there are some guys who do not
<1> They have the right of have an eggdrop
<1> to protect their channels
<1> I wanna remove the bad members
<1> just that
<1> =]
<0> well then you have to do like i said and investigate every process on the system, maybe run tcp dumps on the nic and rummage thru it, ect ect
<3> night

<0> night scot
<3> cya red
<1> humm
<1> redragon is it possible to block outsource pings?
<1> too much pings
<0> yea you can use iptables to block anything you want
<4> gaaaaaaaaaaaah... thanks red
<4> really wish I knew what the bot kept flipping out on
<5> i just had to slap her a couple extra times hehe
<5> something about your not logged in status that it sure dont like
<4> not logged into what?
<1> redragon so I think i'll try iptables
<1> :D
<1> thanks
<5> into x and +x
<5> something about your mask but i'm not sure what
<5> damn this web app taking me for ever to write
<4> hummm... irssi says I'm +x
<5> you are right now
<4> I have been the whole time :P
<6> Redragon^: none of the client scanners are worth the effort?
<0> huh?
<6> ddos scans
<0> why would you want a ddos scan?
<6> thought that was his question...oh well
<5> there are to many things to look for that could be attacking software
<5> no way i would even consider running a shell/bot host
<5> man i dont believe it
<5> all the mail creation, reading, sending functions are finally done
<5> now need to work on adding other features
<5> purplin wanna take a buzz thru this software and tell me what you think?
<4> playing et right now
<5> :P
<7> Hello all...I've successfully installed Sun's java 1.5 jre, but I also need Sun's 1.5 jdk...I've searched around and downloaded the bin, not the rpm, and installed it in /opt...however, how do I enable it...when I do java -showversion I get Sun's 1.5 jre, but when I do javac -showversion I still get the eclipse jdk...any insight?
<8> anybody runnigngrub on debian3.1?
<8> anybody running grub on debian3.1?
<8> doh
<8> i need to get a box to boot without networking
<2> So unplug the cable.
<8> no joy
<8> it isnt plugged in
<2> And the problem therefore is...? No cable, it's not on the network.
<8> seems odd that a network fail can lock the entire box out
<2> Ahhh... finally... apoint!
<8> no the problem is not hat
<8> s/hat/that
<8> what i need is to boot it in single user mode with no networking
<2> No, what you need is to actually tell someone what the problem is.
<8> grub says single but still tries to boot a network
<2> Nonsense. Grub doesn't know anything about your network.
<8> hrmm
<8> i think you have issues
<8> so lets calm down
<8> lets try again
<8> what i need is to boot it in single user mode with no networking
<2> If you think you need to calm down, feel free.
<8> ie real single user mode...
<8> though i may try rescue mode off a rh cd
<9> thing3 you don't even need a cd
<9> you can boot into single user mode during the RH boot process
<2> Except, of course, that he's not using RH.
<8> molsen, yes but this box is a debian box
<8> rh works fine
<8> for some reason debian's rescue mode tries to load networking
<8> so its not really single user mode
<8> hmm that didnt work...
<4> way to go thing3, you broke it!
<8> heh
<8> yeah purp
<8> my first attempt on debian with 2.6.x and its fscked
<8> for some reason networking tries to start in single uer mode
<8> so i cant get into the os
<4> did you check the rc stuff?
