<0> Ok. Are you listening?
<1> yes
<0> Your crontab says to run at 10:00 every day of every week of every month
<2> 10pm would be 22
<0> If you wanted it to run at 10PM, you'd use something similar to 0 22 0 0 0 /some/script
<1> I have allready made that change just a second ago (once you mentioned it was wrong)
<0> ok :)
<0> make sure the script is +x
<1> -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 13125 Jun 1 16:41 /scripts/cpbackup*
<0> ok.
<2> hmm how would i impliment a decent backup system in gnuhh, being dynamic and distributed that isn't gonna be a simple task
<2> though I need to add some db backup routines
<2> but that involves some security issues, as you dont wanna backup the db in encrypted format like its stored :)
<2> though I could encrypt the backup after its created

<2> i'm always about the security :)
<1> danq: it is +x but I am curious why it didn't run at 10am like it should have... if I run the script manually it does in fact run properly. Also if I check /etc/crontab it only has the hourly, daily, and such part folders. Where is the crontab that crontab -e edits (I checked in /root folder for one, but nothing) lol
<0> because, *again*, it was not scheduled to run at 10am
<0> cron.* and crontab are different.
<0> er
<0> it WAS scheduled to run at 10am
<1> lol
<1> thank you :) that's better ;)
<1> I know it didn't run at 10PM because I was an idiot and typed the wrong time in...
<0> Probably because you messed it up.
<0> Ah.
<0> Why don't yuou test the script
<0> run it manually, make sure it works.
<3> Gl***walkr: crontab location varies depending on distro. some keep them in /var/spool/crontab/* but they're not intended to be edited by hand.
<1> but since BOTH 10am and 10pm have p***ed and it hasn't run yet, I was still concerned...
<2> so just curious, if you dont understand cron how do you expect to run a hosting server?
<1> Fiver: I know, just wanted to make sure it was there, kind of a silly redundant check I guess
<1> redragon: I understand cron well enough to know how to format a line (the 10vs22 was a stupid mistake) and call a script, and I know that the script needs right permissions
<1> but since all that is met, and it still didn't run I am coming to ask for help.
<1> I haven't read through it's code entirely, nor do I need to use it often, I have setup probably 50+ servers in the past 2 years, (actual production servers) but normally my exposure to cron is a minimal few tasks during setup, I add a few lines, they work, and it's done with it
<3> does cron accept globbing? how many cpbackup scripts do you have?
<1> I have only had to troubleshoot one or two problems with it in that 2 years, and most have been permissions issues
<1> I have one copy of cpbackup
<1> (that is a script provided by cpanel, I didn't write it, but I can run it from the shell and it runs fine)
<3> then why the * at the end of the command?
<0> it was a directory listing
<3> oh that was ls output sorry
<1> yeah :) sorry
<1> I just copy and pasted my ls input to show permissions
<1> err output :)
<2> all them programs that store data in plain text are evil
<1> sorry I am running on like 3 hours sleep in the past 48 hours :)
<3> I didn't scroll back far enough to see your actual cron entry
<3> what does "head -n 1 /scripts/cpbackup" give you?
<3> that should buy you a pack of smokes, maybe even two ;b
<1> I think I fixed it... just read the script itself and it is a perl script, checked perl and it might have had permisions issues... so I will change the cron to run at 3pm (5min) and see if that helps
<2> wow you have $10, amazing
<3> actually you can get 2 packs of smokes here for about $6.50
<3> less for generics
<3> I have about 5 bucks plus some change in the car ;b
<2> hehe
<3> you should have waited till I get my paycheck in a couple of hours ;)
<3> then you could buy a whole carton.. ;b
<2> mine is gonna be late, suppose to be today wont see it till monday cause they called it in late, bastids
<3> that ****s
<3> I don't actually "see" mine per se, it's direct deposited
<2> and wont see my raise till next payday so have to wait 2 weeks before i can get my hauppauge :(
<2> same here
<3> I get my raise July 1, so I won't see it till mid July
<2> wasn't super but $250 a month isn't bad
<3> sweet
<3> mine's more like $75/mo
<3> well, that's after taxes
<2> thats before taxes hehe
<3> actually it's about $150/mo before taxes, now that I look closer
<2> so i sure aint seein that much :)
<3> not sure I'll see much either
<3> my big raise will be about this time next year, when child support goes away
<2> hehe

<2> yea thats a dent for sure
<3> I don't mind, per se, but it'll sure be nice to have the extra money when it ends
<2> hiya gaia
<4> hiyas redragon :)
<2> oh joy the fun of uploading to SF ....
<4> so go and make a pot of tea or summit
<5> anyone familiar with http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/CD-Writing-HOWTO-2.html very much?
<5> anyone know why the command "do mknod" causes fedora core 5 to spit an error out?
<6> heya Gaia^
<4> hiya
<5> afternoon battlenet and gaia
<6> yoda2, fixed that problem on FC5 for AMD 64 bit
<6> ?
<7> hi
<7> i have o problem
<7> with installing pshgql
<2> what is pshgql ?
<2> never heard of that one :)
<5> battlenet; not even close; but i am moving in the right direction; just not getting very far; i'm working with http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/CD-Writing-HOWTO-2.html to try to figure out how to mount my CD-ROM drive; i will then load the nvidia Linux drivers to see if I can get my network card (in the motherboard) loaded; then I will need to load the NTFS drivers using yum after getting network connectivity; so i have road map; at the mome
<5> trying to figure out why i get an error message with "do mknod"
<7> postgresql
<7> is that
<2> what distro turkish_styl ?
<5> is in http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/CD-Writing-HOWTO-2.html
<5> on page 2 of 7
<7> mandriva
<6> yoda2, and that's just because you installed it on AMD 64 bit ?
<5> the "./MAKEDEV loop \" command inside "[ -f loop0 ] \" seems to have loaded /dev and other file systems that I wasn't seeing before
<2> turkish_styl then try urpmi pgsql-server
<5> i didn't mention that I still probably need to load the video drivers for my new ATI X600 PCI Express card that i got because I thought that I didn't have enough RAM; but adding that, and its 128MB didn't help at all; probably because I don't have its Linux drivers; but I can't get those without using yum; which needs the network card running
<5> which possibly needs the nvidia linux drivers for my motherboard
<5> the first thing that i need to do is get the cdrom mounted
<5> i moved in the right direction by correcting one syntax error that I was making; but it still won't load
<5> in my mount command
<8> yoda2: I already told you about the video ram issue was not an issue
<5> I'm using "mount -t iso9660 -o ro hdc /cdrom"
<8> To do what?
<5> i had /dev/hdc; which isn't the correct syntax for the mount command
<5> mount the cdrom drive
<8> mount /dev/cdrom /mntpoint
<4> thats next to everest, right? mntpoint i mean
<8> Sure
<4> :)
<5> i will go and try it and come back with the error that it gives me reality
<5> thanks
<5> brb
<6> nasty stuff there yoda2
<7> my problem is that when i install all is good
<7> when
<7> i tape
<7> this command :
<7> createdb test
<7> it's write couldn't
<7> problem socket
<7> ...
<2> you installed it, did you start it?
<7> how i can start
<7> there is nothing
<7> in
<7> init.d
<7> plz
<9> turkish_styl what u want to start ?
<10> <7> my problem is that when i install all is good <-- yes, thats always a problem for me >_<
<7> adikt lol
<5> I'M BAACK
<5> reality; when i typed in your command it said i must put in a filesystem type; so i then typed "mount -t iso9660 /dev/cdrom /cdrom"
<5> it said that that special device doesn't exist
<5> so i went into /dev and created /dev/cdrom
<5> and then ran the command again
<5> and it said the same thing
<5> "special device /dev/cdrom does not exist"
<11> mount -t iso9660 /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom
<3> yoda2: /dev/cdrom should be a symlink to the device your cdrom actually is, which is commonly something like /dev/hdc
