<0> so i'm still getting confused on what i still have and what's lost
<0> anyway...
<0> crap, i guess i don't have it
<1> erk
<1> so?
<0> so what?
<2> .o
<0> so if a cd/dvd isn't finalized, i can overwrite the data that's already on there?
<3> Finalising a disc closes it to further writes.
<3> Before that you can add new files and the TOC will be updated, since it's always stored at the end of the disc.
<3> You can't overwrite data on a CD-R, just append to it.
<3> A finalised disc is closed so that you can no-longer append data.
<0> ahh, i had always heard you could reburn cd's that weren't finalized
<0> then when trying to get this stupid dvd burner to work, it kept saying the medium was 'appendable' rather than new or whatever and couldn't make k3b use it so i was wanting to make sure
<0> hdc is 1,1, right?
<0> err

<0> just 1?
<0> dvdrecord is giving me this error (amongst others)
<0> Sense Code: 0x30 Qual 0x02 (cannot read medium - incompatible format) Fru 0x0
<0> i'm using memorex dvd-rs with a dvd+-rw
<4> how can i uncompress a zip archive in linux?
<4> ?
<5> Hey all, quick question, when you build and install from sourse, how do you uninstall later?
<5> Gotta pick it out manually?
<6> seen Gaia^ ?
<7> can you tell me please which printer has cheapest consumables? any reference?
<2> lora: Beyond the scope of the channel, and not as simple a question as it sounds
<2> lora: I think some of the laser offer best price-per-page numbers
<8> You can even use toiler paper to reduce costs.
<2> harpo: Try 'make uninstall'
<8> toilet, even
<7> laser color are very expensive
<2> Yes they are.
<2> But inkjet colour is very expensive.
<5> hey longword
<7> is there any website with tests about printer consumables?
<3> Probably, somewhere.
<9> I was wondering if somebody could help me with network configuration of fedora core 3 through terminal? The computer keeps changing IP and sometimes conflicts with this PC's IP... I want to keep it at the same IP for the sake of port forwarding. I've looked on google and stuff, can somebody help me or perhaps suggest a place where I can find out how? :D.
<9> [15:05:41] <9> Does this channel even offer support? :X... Woops.
<9> Woops, sorry, wrong button. :D.
<9> But the question still stands, if you'd be so kind? :P :D.
<5> lorainee - I dunno, but if you're talking about costs, you can do your own analysis. The manufacturers usually have an expected page count for their cartridges, just divide the cost of the cartridge by the number of pages and you'll get a good idea how much it'll cost.
<5> Happy0 - dunno anything about fedora but, in debian there is a /etc/network/interfaces file....anything like that in fedora?
<9> I'll have a look... If I have the skill. Thanks for the suggestion. :D.
<2> Hap: system-config-network
<9> Longword, just type that? :S :D.
<5> Happy0 - if you have that file you can setup the nic to be static, hand code it an ip and it'll never change.
<9> Longword, this looks promising, thanks. :D. Harp, I'll take a look if this doesn't work, thanks. :D.
<9> This is weird... I can't get down to the "Static ip" thing... :S :D.
<7> harpoontang where do I find such data
<9> Oh wait, got it, unticked "use DHCP" :D.
<5> lorainee - usually on their website looking at the specs of the cartridges
<9> Netmask should be 225.225.225.0, right? :D.
<2> That's a question for your local Network Administrator
<5> lorainee - let me give you some scale, dunno what you're printing to but hp is prolly the most expensive, inkjet and laser printer.
<2> Evening ralf
<9> 255, rather/
<10> unf
<10> opennms
<5> Happy0 - generally
<9> I am my local network administrator. :S :P :D.
<9> Thanks. :D.
<9> Not a very good one, apparently. :P :D.
<11> harpoon, never had Brothers huh?
<10> hello longword
<9> And defaThanks for the help, longword, been trying to figure this out for ages... :D.
<9> :: Huggles longword and harpoon :: :D.
<5> lorainee - I did a cost analysis of an hp laserjet and several alternative printers/manufacturer. At the level they were printing their hp laserjet would cost them $10,000 to operate over a 5 year period.
<5> The printer they have now, a brother costs $2,000 over 5 years.
<11> You gotta be kidding! Brothers are the biggest waste of money you could ever find.
<9> Hee hee hee hee. :P :D.
<0> my mom just got a brother printer
<7> harpoontang so you end up to HP ?
<0> she said ink cartridges are like 1/3 price of her hp
<5> PBS_001 you should do more cost analysis

<5> lorainee - they're using a brother now.
<11> The model that I am basing my thoughts off of is the Brother HL-1440
<11> The drum replacing 60 dollar per cartridge printer that never seems to work
<0> i dunno what model my mom has or how great the quality is... i just know it's cheaper :P
<5> It cost more upfront for them to purchase it but the operational cost savings more than pays for it and the printer is bigger, faster, more memory, holds more paper and is generally nicer.
<5> PBS_001 - I think they bought the hl-7050
<10> hmm
<5> Generally with printers the more you pay upfront the cheaper it is to operate them. Except when you're dealing with HP.
<5> PBS_001 the hl7050 has a 12000page cartridge. They're averaging about 8000 pages but it's still saving them money.
<5> Cartridges cost anywhere $60 - 100 depending on the vendor.
<10> wonder why this box is dying
<11> The HL-7050 looks a little more high end then the HL-1440 (more for the desktop user). Perhaps they have changed the quality or price of their products. My experience with them was low cost up front very high cost after.
<5> PBS_001 - yeah, it's not a desktop printer, thats for sure.
<7> I dont care about quality much (as most today printers have ok quality)
<7> I want cheap inks
<11> Canon..
<5> but then this company goes through about 10 reams of paper a month.
<10> hmm
<7> I want cheap inks
<10> disappointing
<5> lorainee - stay away from cheap printers
<7> why
<7> anyway, I dont want CHEAP PRINTER, but cheal cartridges that last long
<11> *cough* Canon, cough.
<11> *cough* Canon Pixima 5000
<5> This wireless nic stuff is killing me
<0> this dvd burning stuff is killing me :(
<0> i wish SOMEONE in the last 3-4 days i was messing with it had bothered to tell me that some brands media were completely incompatible with linux
<0> s/brands/types
<0> according to the dvd burning faq, if you encounter an 'incompatible media' error with dvd-rs it's because a lot of manufacturers don't create them to specs or some such
<0> which is messed up cuz we bought a small pack of memorex dvd-r's just to make sure they worked ok before we bought an entire spool of memorex dvd-rs
<0> same dvd-r's work fine in windows though
<0> grr
<5> And I always thought media compatibility was a hardware issue.
<5> Memorex I would think would be manufactured to specs
<11> Coasters (Coast' ters): See AOL CDs
<5> oh sure the first 5 worked, and only at 1x burning ;(. But the rest wouldn't even be recognized. It was quit disappointing considering how much they were back then.
<5> What I don't understand is why does driverloader recognize this windows driver for my nic and ndiswrapper does not.
<5> and the madwifi mailling list is a joke, there is no real help there.
<11> I'm looking at //etc/proftpd.conf and see a line: Virtual Host 10.X.X.X and lines below it : Default Root /wheel and : Default Root /site-adm. What does all this mean? I'm trying to figure out how it diserns between a user logging in as a admin and getting a certain directory and a user logging in as a user and getting another.
<12> PBS_001: probably the man page for proftpd explains that.
<12> heh, i use vs
<11> Ah good point, didn't think it would have a man page.
<12> hehe
<12> does anybody here uses xgl with compiz on a ati video card?

<13> i think there are over 20 processes like this .. and i dont have any idea about them
<13> sapdb 1155 0.0 6.1 94032 31576 ? S 2005 0:00 /opt/sapdb/depend

<12> Bogdan64: is the machine in front of you?
<13> synaptic : no
<12> where is it?
<13> my company
<13> until monday i cant get there
<12> it's your company and you don't know what sapdb is.
<12> damn, you script kiddies are getting smarted(NOT) every day.
<12> that machine has a nice uptime.
<13> lol, if i have a company .. that dosent meens i have to know to work with pc's
<12> Bogdan64: well then call your system admin
<13> i have somebody who is doing that for me
<13> but he is in 2 weeks brake from now..
<12> ah. so you don't have any sysadmin for now right?
<13> and you know how it is.. you cant trust anybody when we are talking about money
<12> where are you from?

<13> jp
