<2> That's true. I remember when high speed internet here was king
<2> now look at it
<0> eh.
<0> yeah, I'm at UVic right now.
<0> anything on BCNet saturates a 100MBit link.
<0> (too bad more stuff isn't)
<2> anyway, i got a question with my new centos install.. this is the first time i've installed it with two network cards and it seems to be causing some issues, so I'm wondering how I can prevent eth1 from enabling when the computer starts up
<2> Where' s UVic?
<0> Victoria, BC
<1> what wm?
<3> to set your system-wide default window manager, use "update-alternatives --config x-window-manager". For your personal WM, use ~/.xsession instead. "apt-cache showpkg x-window-manager" will give you a list of available WMs.
<1> sheesh
<0> what wm is re?
<2> wait were yhou asking what wm I'm using?
<2> or were you not talking to me?
<1> in gnome, there is a gui setting to set which network interface (if any) loads at startup
<2> unfortunately I don't have a wm installed.. just base centos install
<1> ah
<2> Okay maybe I should explain my situation a little better..
<2> Basically I got two nics, one connected directly to a cable modem, and then other to my lan. I want APF on it though and it's kicking abck an error when it try and start it saying the hostname is invalid or something along those lines
<2> Actually here is the exact error: hostname: Host name lookup failure
<0> cat /etc/resolv.conf
<0> see if you can ping the nameservers.
<2> connect: Network is unreachable
<2> hmmmm
<0> route -n
<0> if nothing's up then use some deadrat config tool to set ti up.
<0> it.
<2> it lists two gateways
<0> hmm.. two gateways eh.
<0> that's interesting.
<2> yeah, that shouldn't be
<1> gnight
<2> see ya

<6> if it ln -d incorrect path entered?
<6> anyone know how to unlink a linked file
<7> Why wouldn't you just rm the defective link?
<6> how do i remove the defective link?

<6> is what im asking
<6> mwilson?
<3> i heard mwilson is helpful, but sometimes is a bit of an ***, but that's ok as he really does know his stuff and will say so when he dosent, or never a little bit of an ***, mwilson is always a big ***!
<6> does ne1 know how to remove a defective link
<6> ?
<8> man rm
<6> will that remove the file? or just the link
<8> it will show you the man-page for the rm command
<0> it will remove the link.
<6> like rm /home/user/reminder.php
<6> ?
<6> will remove the link and leave the file?
<6> sounds good...thanks
<7> <sigh> I tell him... he doesn't listen.
<6> it removed the file ***holes
<6> i backed up though
<7> Yes, if you rm'ed the file, instead of the link.
<6> i rm'd the file from the other dir with the link
<6> i also asked everyone if it would leave the file
<6> link is still there
<7> Which it would.
<6> although file is not
<7> If you rm'ed the file, what did you expect to happen?
<6> can you help me fix things
<6> first i need to rm the link,,,how?
<7> If, on the other hand, you'd rm'ed the link, as you were told to by several people, you wouldn't have had a problem.
<0> gawz: you're an idiot. please kill yourself.
<6> no one told how to do it
<0> gawz: if you're going to blame me for your incompetence, I'm going to tell you you're an idiot.
<6> nice going bronaugh
<6> thanks for the help
<6> can someone else tell me how to remove the link
<0> rm the -link- not the -file
<6> how?
<7> gawz: So far, you've ignored all the help you've gotten... what do you expect?
<0> LEARN
<0> say you've got file i****.php
<0> you also have a link called imanidiot.php which links to i****.php
<0> if you want to remove the link imanidiot.php, rm imanidiot.php
<0> kind of like... uhh, what's BLEEDING OBVIOUS?
<6> i got it. It was easy, just over my head. yeah i feel dumb
<0> ok, good.
<7> You should.
<6> sometimes its hard to see the forest through the trees
<7> Especially when you don't believe you should actually think about what you're doing.
<6> thinking, we dont need no stinkin thinking!
<6> :-)
<9> Anyone here familar with Bluequartz?
<9> Or Raq?
<10> hrmmm. Thought I wasn't going to hear THAT name for a while
<10> And no, I'm not.
<9> ;)
<9> Why did you think you might not hear that name for a while?
<3> Because Elvis told me to do it!
<9> Elvis lives? o.0
<0> sure, he pumps gas by my house.
<0> I throw pennies at him.
<11> of course he lives, he just went home.....
<9> Home seems so far away...
<12> But home is just a cd away
<9> For Elvis it's another planet full of probes.
<0> ahh, he didn't go to hell.. he just got abducted by aliens.
<0> and they're keen on probing him. repeatedly.
<12> He was an alien
<9> Anyhow, my problem is pretty simple, I installed Bluequartsz on FC1 and got all the sites and what not set up and going great, hell I even installed OpenWEBMAIL and got that working good. I ran into the problem when uploading sites, for example, I would ftp to ftp://10.0.0.191 as a site admin and cannot seem to get into the //home/sites/www.XXX.com/web directory, instead it shoves me in the //home/sites/www.XXX.com/users/user01...
<10> Cyrano_De: hrm? my $home isn't ON a CD, luckily, or I couldn't write to it.
<0> www.xxx.com?
<0> can I have your site content?
<9> haha, it was peerly an example.
<0> right :P
<7> What clueless person would still be using FC1?
<9> <-
<9> it's what the software likes
