<0> Shad0w-: can't help you there, sorry. You'll need to talk to who gave you the shell.
<1> ok, it lists the install CDs
<2> it's settle
<2> thanks :)
<0> profXavier: any online sites?
<1> nope
<1> are you familiar with ntfs-g3 ?
<0> Aahhh.
<0> I've heard of it - today, in fact.
<1> in mandriva?
<0> yes.
<1> that was me
<0> So. To summarise, you need to add some external sites to your current list of sites.
<1> sounds complicated
<0> You've got the CDs already, now you just need to figure out how to add a "mirror" of Mandriva.
<0> There are docs that describe it in detail, only I have to go right pretty much now...

<1> if I just dl a different version of the kernel and run the rpm, that should work, right?
<1> k, later
<0> Well, I'll paste a link, you can go grab it...
<1> grab what?
<3> the link
<0> ftp://ftp.riken.jp/00/Linux/MandrivaLinux/official/2007.0/i586/media/main/updates/kernel-2.6.17.8mdv-1-1mdv2007.0.i586.rpm
<0> That's the kernel...
<0> and now it's time I left.
<1> so i need to dl this, then su and install
<1> i bet it doesnt work
<3> you need to confirm what your wanting installed
<1> rpm -??? to install it?
<3> ive never used rpm to install a kernal ive gone to kernel.org i think it was and done it manually
<3> and even then ive only done it twice
<1> k, so its not straight-forward
<3> its not to hard
<3> from memory i got a file downloaded, untar'd it went into it and did the normal ./configure etc type stuff as per the install manual and then it loads a dos box as it were where you can go down a list of things and select what you want into the kernel ie do you want wireless lan support, Usb and bluetooth etc
<1> ugh
<1> k, ill p*** on doing that atm
<3> then you save a conf, compile it and alter some stuff ( all detailed in the instructions ) to change
<1> well, no file system acces tonight for me
<1> do you know how to allow users (not root) to access partitions on my box?
<1> ntfs partitions
<1> just read hopefully
<4> youi can't
<1> only root can read?
<4> yes
<1> hmm
<1> well, i was told differently
<1> but obviously it didnt work
<4> so ask the one who told you how to do it
<1> no no, i beleive you
<1> can someone send me a url explaining how to update the kernel?
<1> please
<3> http://kernel.org
<1> more specifically
<4> profXavier: look for a "kernel howto"
<4> And please be advised we don't cather well to newbies who won't do their own lookup work
<5> if you need more help run osX or vista
<1> i must be blind
<5> aye
<6> *yawn*
<6> is it morning already ?
<4> sadly
<6> hmm. windows home server.
<6> could be interesting.
<6> "no more driveletters"
<6> "only mountpoints".
<6> wonder where they stole that idea from.
<4> it's a matter of time for they drop the drive letter concept anyhow
<6> *nod*
<6> without dfs i would need double-digits anyway :P
<4> heh
<4> Hmm, 5 harddrives arriving soon, I better have a look at how to connect them
<6> dfs has only one weak point.
<4> only one?
<6> you do not see the available space on the real device.
<1> is there a howto on kernel.org to explain updating the kernel?
<7> profXavier: did you check there?
<4> profXavier: http://tldp.org/HOWTO/Kernel-HOWTO.html

<7> Im pretty sure theres a README file with the kernel source explaining this in detail
<4> first hit on google
<1> first hit, with nothing on it
<7> profXavier: just DL the damn kernel you want and follow the readme
<4> Bleh, it's in review
<7> profXavier: and remember to keep your old kernel around, in case you **** up
<1> its an rpm, how can I read the README?
<7> ...
<6> .....
<4> profXavier: just install the damn thing then
<1> thanks for the help
<4> new Top Gear tomorrow

<6> SimplLiCo.
<6> especially for people aged 60+ :P
<7> lol
<4> I don't see how that's not a good idea
<6> heh.
<4> OSes are too ****en complex for anyone, let alone elder people
<6> it even comes with a special keyboard.
<4> We need task driven OSes
<4> And it needs to get out of the way
<6> http://www.fujitsu-siemens.de/Resources/130/1864246568.jpg

<7> as long as it has FF and ssh I am fine :P
<2> what was the command for killin a process ?
<2> kill -9 process ?
<2> cuzz kill -9 xmms doesn't work :(
<4> kill -0 `pidof xmms`
<4> err, s/-0/-9/
<2> crap
<2> arguments must be process or job IDs

<14> I have windows installed in vmplayer(192.168.3.128) (for the belkim usb wireless adaptor). I would like the port 80 on the linux machine to be forwarded on another machine(192.168.2.2) (seen only on the guest operating system). How can I do something like iptables -t nat -i ppp0 -A PREROUTING -p tcp --dport 80 -j DNAT --to-destination 192.168.2.2:80 (windows to be invisible since I use it only for the usb adaptor driver)?
<15> catlinux: that doesn't work with vmware. Just use bridging or natting.
<15> so basicly; look into the vmware settings.
<14> Lion-O: thanks
