<0> no, it's installed on the ts, but it makes an tcp connection to another server
<1> hi, what's the command to list all loaded drivers?
<2> HighVoltage: lsmod
<2> Teakk: howdy
<3> errtu, funky :)
<0> very :)
<0> and right at the time when my contract will be reviewed \o/
<1> the one listing devices and their drivers i mean
<2> HighVoltage: I already told you.
<4> HighVoltage : lspcia
<0> it's been over 3 years since i last used bx. lemme check if nothing is set to go off automaticly and pollute the chan
<5> errtu: you can use irssi you know.... :P
<1> what i need is a way to know what driver the gentoo cd is using for my nic so i can compile the kernel with that driver
<0> i could .. yeah :P
<2> HighVoltage: "man lsmod"

<2> HighVoltage: and ofcourse you have the documentation around :P /usr/src/linux/Documentation which lists the kernel modules available.
<0> hm, come to think of it. it's been 3 years since i've been on irc
<2> for networking /usr/src/linux/Documentation/networking
<6> hmm which distribution am I going to install on my new laptop
<7> Sunblade: solaris
<5> schitzo: hehe
<5> Sunblade: ubuntu? or fc
<2> Sunblade: even distrowatch.org has it to it has to be a good Linux :P
<6> Nah Solaris isn't my favorite OS :P
<5> fc weirdly worked on lappyes better than others...
<2> s/to/so/
<6> most likely kubuntu or Debian Sarge not sure yet which one
<2> Sunblade: SuSE! ;-)
<7> Slackware!!!1!!!!
<6> Lion-O: suse is nice too :)
<6> don't make my choices even more difficult :P
<2> schitzo: ey now, no fair punching below the waste ;-)
<7> Lion-O: heh
<2> s/waste/waist/
<6> I've been quite happy with Debian SID though
<5> Sunblade: fc or suse tend to be more friendly to laptops
<5> i had a portege300 a few years ago
<2> Sunblade: *nod*, same here. I tried Stable though, didn't last for a month 8)
<6> tavi-san: Oh Debian sid works quite nicely here
<5> tried to install everything on it, nothing worked except su****s
<5> Sunblade: new laptop means working ****
<5> that damn toshiba was as old as me
<6> Debian SID is very up to date and it works amazingly stable :P
<5> Sunblade: i know damn it, im using it :P
<5> and im a debian user after all, that thing was just something that had happened some time ago
<6> tavi-san: no no, you're trying to convince me using ****ware
<6> :>
<8> except i still haven't managed to make the whole new udev / pcmciautils thing work properly with my wireless LAN card
<5> Sunblade: i kinda hate ****ware
<6> really ? (duh ...)
<8> while the hotplug / udev / cardmgr thing that sarge has works fine still
<5> oh ****, my *** is on fire
<6> hmm there were some issues with udev no ? I pinned the package
<6> It replaces the hotplug package and requires a kernel not older than 2.6.12.
<6> duh
<8> *nod*
<8> if you plan to get a recent kernel, it's actually quite good. but complications arose when i tried to use it for PCMCIA
<9> I have NEVER had good luck with udev....I already replace it with devfs
<8> Teakk: well tough luck, because devfs is definitely going away
<10> http://www.dice.com/beingit/
<9> mod-: I know :(
<11> devfs was a poor implementation of a great idea. udev is a good implementation of a crappy one.
<12> Teakk: why you been abusing the poor udev?
<9> Libolt: hehe
<8> i like udev, and it's worked fine for me
<9> everytime udev gets installed here, I **** something up when tryin to get permis and such set right for the soundcard and cd burners
<12> Teakk: maybe you shoul be banned from the computer :)
<9> Libolt: pffft
<6> funny though I am running a kernel much higher then 2.6.12 :P
<9> 2.6.12 here

<2> hmm, what to get for dinner.
<2> perhaps a ham/egg sandwich 8)
<13> hello, is there a way to build a linux bootable CD (ISO) with a different kernel than the one pre-installed?
<2> warmdude: sure.
<13> could you tell me how or where I can find documentation on that?
<14> yeah, unwrap the iso in a directory somewhere, replace the kernel and ***ociated stuff and burn a new cd. simple.
<13> Ka-bar: by unwrap, do you mean, install?
<2> warmdude: not too sure if there is an howto for this, tldp.org should know though. Its basicly the same as creating a bootable cd, just using a different kernel. Which shouldn't be that hard since its also pretty easy to create a bootfloppy with another kernel image.
<13> ttLpd or t(one)pd
<13> the search doesn't return any results
<15> hello i need help
<13> let me ask a more direct question, I'm trying to install megaraid2.o on RH7.3 (don't ask) which doesn't come in the original kernel. 2.4.21 does include it though. Does anyone have another method of including this driver in the original kernel?
<16> .
<2> Raiderce: Why don't you check out http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html ? Maybe you'll learn how to ask more meaningful questions...
<2> warmdude: thats very likely to be totally impossible.
<13> Lion-0 for what reason?
<2> For starters; you're trying to add rather modern kernel modules to ancient distributions.
<14> maybe because that driver doesn't work with that kernel.
<15> Lion-O
<2> Raiderce: I suggest you stop acting like a moronic script kiddie.
<14> Raiderce, Reading the channel FAQ, http://faq.linuxops.net will reduce the likelihood of your getting an icepick in the ear.
<13> I've see Dell Poweredge 2850 with PErc 4e/Di (that's where megaraid2.o comes in) run on 7.3
<2> warmdude: uh huh
<14> yeah, maybe with an updated kernel, but not a stock rh7.3
<13> yeah that's what I'm trying to do
<2> why not get a decent distribution while you're at it?
<13> customer's request. it's all tied in, rh7.3 informix and a whole bunch of other software
<17> everything we said earlier about verizon finally offering something good has just gone completely down the tubes
<13> yeah I know
<10> whyzzat?
<2> I hate it when idiots come ask things here because they're trying to sell Linux solutions yet know zip about it.
<10> what did verizon **** up?/
<2> <insert muttering here>
<10> Lion-O: yeah, that REALLY pisses me off.
<17> because they won't transfer a secondary email account under my friend's old primary account, to my primary account.. and he cancelled his service just yesterday, so my email addy i've had for 5 years, is now disabled completely
<13> Lion-0 I'm not selling a solution, I'm merely helping with the installation
<10> if you don't know what the **** you're doing you shouldn't be out there selling linux solutions
<10> or expertise.
<13> lol
<13> ok thanks for your help guy
<13> bye
<5> wa
<5> ignore the above line
<2> at least he was warm 8)
<5> Lion-O: :)
<18> :wq!
<17> haha
<5> :q!
<5> :P
<2> siglite: now you made me wonder if you were joking and making fun of me or were serious :P lemme buy you a beer anyway :P
<2> :x
<14> warmdude has now ***umed room temperature...
<10> Lion-O: oh, no, I was completely serious.
<15> Lion-O
<10> Lion-O: that pisses me off because it makes my life harder out there in the world.
<15> its not shell like all the shells i difrend
<15> ./psybnc
<14> Raiderce, do you have a question or do you just enjoy annoying a channel op?
<15> shell:~$ ./psybnc
<15> -bash: ./psybnc: is a directory
<10> Lion-O: you run into a customer who's already had a runin with an ***hat like that and get "yeah, we tried linux but nothing worked"
<14> siglite, *nod*
<2> siglite: *nod*, my feelings exactly.
<10> Raiderce: we don't support kiddiot **** like psybnc. Move long now.
<15> where to look for help>?
<14> and then it takes forever to convince them that it was the ***hat's fault and not linux's fault.
<17> raiderce: at first i thought you were using the wrong tty
<10> Ka-bar: *nod*
<19> siglite: Why do ya'll always ***ume PsyBNC is intended for kiddies/ I have legit reasons for it ;)
<6> Raiderce: not here, good bye
