<0> ~/o Another visitor. Stay a while... stay... FOREVER! o/~ <1> even if modules are up and running <2> Viking667: *grin* <1> ThomasM: I know dongles are wire...but it doesn work on my linux box at all -.- even if module is ok <3> Lem0nCeltic: Take a moment. Organize your thoughts. Ask the question again. You have yet to make sense. <1> sigh <4> Lem0nCeltic, wireless stuff, especially Broadcom chipsets, are a bit rough to make fully operational on linux <5> Lem0nCeltic, please go to http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html and pay careful attention to the suggestions there. It'll improve your chances of getting a useful answer. <1> ok friends, thanks very much <4> If you got Ubuntu, maybe I can help a bit, I succeded doing it on my laptop <3> Lem0nCeltic: Want me to take a stab at interpreting your question without all the extra, confusing bits? "How do I get a WiFi USB stick to work with linux?" To which, we reply either "What WiFi USB stick?" And then, you say... <0> Hi ThomasM <3> Howdy Viking667 <0> What did you think of "Who Killed Johnny?"? <6> hello men <6> hello ***y men
<3> Viking667: I had to leave off on page 17 of 22 (will probably finish up tonight), but it's looking good. <1> ZyDAS ZD1211 chip <0> damn. That counts me out. <0> be aware the last chapters are a bit rough. <3> Viking667: I do like how you go straight into the work without explaining all the different bits, but you might work on clueing the reader in a bit better. The only other complaint is that you _really_ need to work on paragraph structure for dialog. It's good dialog (except that everybody pretty much has the same voice)--but it needs broken up so the reader can follow who's saying what. <3> Viking667: On the characters having the same voice count, that'll work itself out in the edits, once you think your characters are real. <0> lol. That's the sort of stuff I was after. <0> Oh. And I don't know how to structure dialog. <3> Viking667: 99% of the time, the basic rule of giving each speaker their own paragraph works wonders. <0> So what you got was the best that I know how. <3> One paragraph should not include two people speaking except under special circumstances. <0> ThomasM: err, my characters speak short sentences, as you probably picked up. <3> Viking667: Even then. <0> I would consider it if my chars spoke more than about ten words in a row, but .... they're Joe Workers... <0> brb <3> Don't worry about your paragraph lengths, especially when it's dialog. <0> *sigh* - and I was getting sick of "he said ... she said ... I said ..." <0> But the other option wasn't much better. <3> Don't worry about that. Writers always do, but readers never read it. <3> Think back to reading a book. Do you remember all the attributions past finding out who said it? And if you had a good idea who was speaking or could hear their voice, did you even bother to read the attribution? <0> ThomasM: I do wonder about it sometimes. In "CRime and punishment" for example, there's attribution to some degree. <0> But that's old writing. <3> Viking667: If it's the same people speaking, you can skip the attributions, as well. If you're sure the reader knows who's speaking, you don't need them, especially in a back-and-forth conversation between two people. <0> Two people wasn't my problem. I was more worrying about when they're ALL discussing things initially... <3> There are special constructions for when a large group is speaking and you don't care who's actually saying the words. Usually used for mobs and such. <0> But yeah, setup could be a problem. But I don't know how else to do it without an introduction. And I HATE those. <3> Me, too. You do have a character that was new to all the things there, so you can use them as a foil for introductions on some things. <0> hrm? <3> Your main character is from a different culture. Their interactions with others can be used as a foil both for introducing the culture they came from and the one they entered. <0> "Huh? Who?" "Well, it's like this - before you arrived, ....." <0> Like that? <0> Well, that's partially what the Shoeing In was supposed to be for, to "make" him a member of their society. <0> So he's not a total noob. <2> "life. the shoeing you deserve" <2> Thats the first time Ive seen the word "shoeing" used. Viking667's remark being the second <0> Jostein: oh yeah. You haven't read the book yet... <2> nope <3> Viking667: What say we take this to a /MSG, especially seeing as docfu's the only other one that knows what's going on, and he doesn't seem to be around. <0> lol. Come on over to #whiskey <7> Holy ****, I so want to kill our users. Grrrrrrrr People this stupid shouldn't be trying to run their own servers of any kind. <8> 8) <7> "Why won't this work?" "Because you're a retard." <8> ahah <7> "but this isn't working the way I think it should." "That's because your brain isn't working the way it should." <7> Well, 2 more hours until I get to pretend I'm home :) <4> I'd tend to say, if it don't work a certain way, stop, think, and try again, or try another way <9> best tech support scenario: <9> Customer: "hi there, my printer isn't working correclty" <9> Tech: "Ok, go ahead and click on Start" <2> Falchion: sounds like a nice day at work <7> Jostein: s/nice/typical <9> Customer: "Whoa whoa waddya think i'm Bill Gates or some ****?" <2> Falchion: Hey. At least your users are smart enough to setup their own servers, even though incorrectly :P <7> Comet: We started havign a wall of shame where we'd print off the best and post them up. But after awhile we decided there was no point. They're ALL idiots. <9> hahahaha <9> i like that idea <10> Jostein, thats like saying 'at least your users can go into the toilet even though they **** in the bath' <7> Jostein: When someone declares that there is a problem with our system because their MX record isn't letting them access their FTP, THEY ARE ****ING MORONS.
<10> how can an MX record not let them access their ftp? <2> wishes: not quite, but you -are- onto something :P <10> thats like for mail <7> wishes: BTW, sorry I missed your msg the other day. Make you a package deal if you wanna buy a modded PS2 for your son as well ;) <10> hold, ill convert <11> i used such a gateway - had adsl to the provider but only 32k on international <7> wishes: OK, convert and we'll go from there <10> though it seems a bit pricey - i paid that NZ for mine <7> wishes: for a 20gb? <10> yeah g3 <10> oh wow conversion isnt to bad atm :) <10> thats $286 for me <7> Wait, 3rd gen have buttons? <10> it used to be 50c or something stupid <10> yep <7> This is just th wheel <10> at the top <7> Oh, mines a 4th <10> hehe <7> My old one was 3rd. silly me. <10> ahh <10> you have 2? <7> I had 3.
