<1> stray: you bought it, they have tech support
<1> I wish they would stop using 'free' when they really mean 'limited trial'
<0> 8) *NOD*
<1> j0 yoz
<0> XyZzY: hi there
<2> XyZzY: I haven't bought it, I'm looking for people with deployed installations in production use to hear their opinions
<3> Hi all.
<4> wee kde 3.5 :)
<5> do you use it?
<5> K_F: it works fine?
<6> why wouldn't it?
<6> so, yes
<5> I think, KDE is very comfortable...but sometimes very slow
<6> getting better

<6> looking forward to KDE 4, as it will use Qt 4
<6> a lot of improvements
<7> is Qt properly free yet?
<6> hmm, 4.1 has " A PDF backend to the Qt printing system, making the creation of PDF files from both desktop and server applications as simple as printing"
<6> whyzzyrd: if you refer to the non-gpl windows version previously, yes
<7> I remember at some point many many many moons ago, it was non-free
<5> but 'Fluxbox' is much better than KDE or Gnome :))
<6> whyzzyrd: the windows version wasn't
<5> (IMHO)
<6> linux and mac has been GPL for some time
<2> i used icewm a couple of years, but i switched to xfwm now
<6> whyzzyrd: http://www.trolltech.com/newsroom/announcements/00000192.html
<8> hi, very basic question, if i want to access a X windows session remotely on a fedora machine from a windows machine, what win app would one use? is there "client" similiar to windows remote desktop connection or would one need to use VNC ?
<7> vnc pretty good bet.
<9> Bartek: google for windows X server
<8> thanks waznz
<7> if you want to access a session that's already running. If you wish to display applications from the fedora machine on your windows machine, you want an X server
<8> is it possible for me to start an x session remotely?
<7> waznz: your answer is not necessarily correct. It rather depends what he's trying to achieve.
<8> basically be able to use x from a win machine without neccessarily physically starting it on the linux machine
<8> if that is possible
<9> whyzzyrd: isn't there a way to 'connect' to an X session without resorting to VNC? (like screen detach)
<9> although from what's been said, I'd say that a Windows X server is going to fit the bill
<8> thanks guys i will do some reading
<7> Bartek: you'll want a windows X server. You can get a free one through cygwin.
<7> waznz: not that I'm aware of. If you find one out, tell me.
<9> Will do ... I believe it was an extension to X of some sort
<9> Bartek: if you follow the link from the SFU page on microsoft.com, there's a link to a free StarNet(?) one ...
<8> waznz excuse my ignorance what is the "SFU page" ?
<9> services for unix
<8> aha yes sorry, just looked it up
<10> maybe to write a program that redirects all data on the video card to a socket server, and a windows app that it connects and interprets
<8> SSigSeg way beyond my skill level but sounds neat
<11> What is an good mail client
<11> for prompt
<11> /terminal
<8> pine ?
<12> mutt?
<9> Euforia: mutt
<10> well.. i'd call it a networked video adapter, instead of X using a video adapter driver, it'd use a driver that sent all video data over a network to another server, the server would of course have to connect to the linux machine to accept all keyboard & mouse events from the remote machine... I will call it, W! no no... to primative, maybe ummm... Y! no, no! Y! sounds too much like Yahoo... maybe something inbetween. something neutral....
<11> tnx
<9> OK ... I can no longer focus ... I'm going to do some of that sleep thing.
<9> night all!
<8> ;)
<8> thanks guys, good bye
<10> :)
<10> thanks me, good bye
<13> gfggod damn my connection blows today
<4> waa where can I find out what which cpu flag means ?
<7> comments in the code ?
<7> Sunblade: and second, why do you need to know?
<4> I want to know if this cpu supports the execution disable bit
<7> flag nx isn't it?
<14> I hate linux... especially fedora... I had a client with fedora and with a simple little program runed as a regular user... ZDRANG! BANG! Bug:Soft lockup on CPU#0!!!
<13> Sunblade: which flag is this?
<13> whyzzyrd: indeed
<4> hmm ok then this cpu doesn't support that
<13> killall5: ulimit users you don't trust

<7> what cpu is it?
<4> Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.40GHz
<13> killall5: if you don't you always run the risk of a badly code program dtaking more than their fair share of resources
<14> I didn't had root acces....
<7> Sunblade: Intel(R) Xeon(TM) MP CPU 3.00GHz
<7> has it
<13> EMT64 capable processors have it, I don't think the regular 32bit line does
<13> and yes, Xeon has it, but Xeon is Xeon
<4> whyzzyrd: ok, thanks
<7> yup, an lm flag for 64bitness too
<14> you should hear their complains... you killed ourcool server with uptime...
<13> Sunblade: actual,ly it seems intel calls the bit the XD bit
<7> Intel(R) Xeon(TM) CPU 3.06GHz indeed does not have the nx
<13> Sunblade: dunno what the kernel names the flag though
<4> ok
<7> wlfshmn: my Xeon MP doesn't have an xd flag
<13> Sunblade: "Intel implemented a similar feature in Intel's Itanium Processor back in 2001, but did not do so in more popular x86 processors (Pentium, Celeron, Xeon families). After AMD's decision to enrich the x86 platform, Intel decided to enhance their x86 processors too and implemented a similar feature starting with the latest Pentium 4 processors with Prescott core."
<7> I've not got a prescott to hand to check
<7> actually, my colleagues shuttle might be a prescott.. 2 mn
<14> did anybody know how to avoid in the future that stupid bug in linux kernels... without the update to > 2.4.6.12
<13> Sunblade: I can't find a clear list, but it seems AMD& IA-64, Efficion, EM64T and Later revision of Pentium M series are NX-enabled
<7> just looked at 2 3.2G P4's neither have nx
<4> my new notebook will have the nx bit
<7> that killed the conversation.
<15> can someone help me with a bind behind a router/firewall please? i've tried (almost) everything... and it's dead :(
<4> lost_one: if it's death there's no need to help
<15> actually, almost dead :P inside the network works just fine, from the outside... another story...
<15> i think the router f***s up something on the way... can't figure out whatm exactly, though...
<4> *shrug* read the routers manual
<15> read it already, three times... there's nothing there that can actually help me...
<15> it used to work when i was on redhat, now on gentoo... half-dead...
<4> maybe a firewall on bind box ?
<15> no, the firewall is on the router (zyxel), don't have a firewall running on the bind box...
<15> but even with the fwall function not active, doesn't work from the outside..
<15> Sunblade > may i give you something, on prv?
<4> lost_one: no.
<15> k... when i try to resolve something from another box, gives me this:
<15> dig www.lostone.net @82.76.194.184
<15> ;; reply from unexpected source: 82.76.194.184#22734, expected 82.76.194.184#53
<15> damn :))
<4> not here either
<4> damn domino ****e
<0> say.. is /var/lib/mysql/ the dir where the dat is actually safed or are these only refereneces.
<0> s./?/
<4> I hate that damn modem and I also hate Domino for not liking it
<16> hello. I have a little question I've installed dovecot+sendmail+clamav+spam******in+a access.db maded for anti -spam from orldb and amother antivirus named bitdefender [at my client request]. All things woked ok before installing his antivirus. Now I revieve localhost [127.0.0.1] did not issue MAIL/EXPN/VRFY/ETRN during connection to MTA
<16> sorry for spelling mistakes, but I'm really tired.
<17> AraselX: and your question?
<18> AraselX: And your question is?
<18> Heh
<16> I supose is TLS problem?
<18> Is what a TLS problem?
<18> AraselX : Please go to http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html , and pay careful attention to the suggestions there. It'll improve your chances of getting a useful answer.
<19> helo
<19> i get a error at pgsql : psql: FATAL 1: SetUserId: user 'root' is not in 'pg_shadow'
<18> obs3st: And?
<17> obs3st: try user postgres iso user root.
<16> Tron ok, let me try to ask something smart: when I give an e-mail message from another server to this new installed one, I recieve stat=Deferred: 403 4.7.0 TLS handshake failed. It's ok to disable TLS in sendmail.mc before remaking the sendmail.cf file ?
<19> how to i login with postgres user?
<19> Do*
<18> obs3st: You read the Postgresql documentation.
<18> AraselX: Do you need or want TLS?
<16> Tron really, for my client, it isn't a necesity. I'll remove it and try again. Thank you.
<16> Tron I find the problem, the antivirus creates his own model of sendmail.mc end adds dnl # before define( ...certs') in my original sendmail.mc, now I've fixed this problem and everything goes ok, without disable the TLS. Thank again.
<20> hi
<21> hi, isnt gnome the standard GUI for unix?
<21> err I mean CDE :o(
<22> Icewolf: You're going to have to try harder if you want to troll effectively.
<21> ?
