<0> duplex- in fvwm it isnt actually unlimited but the limits are like the size of an integer or something huge <1> Derek: I like listening to cl***ical music while I code (CBC usually has decent stuff during the day) <2> Lately it's been country for me. And others it's cl***ical. <1> EWWWWWWWWWWW COUNTRY <1> GET AWAY, GET AWAY! <2> LOL <3> I'm not into country, or western, for that matter. <4> Bluegr*** is cool <0> yesterday the house inspector came over so i figured "cool jazz" would be appropriate. so i tuned in some internet radio station, in the cool jazz catagory. the inspector liked it so much he asked what the station was, and when i told him it was on the internet he was impressed. i told him to try "winamp" i hope it works like a normal stream directory browser, which is what i was useing <2> I used to listen to CBC radio out of Winnipeg from around 11pm during the week. They had a 2hour cl***ical program during the week <2> 990AM can come in pretty good this far south at times. <2> But better in western kansas. No strong station at 980 in that part of the state.
<1> only bluegr*** I like is Bela Fleck <2> but here, we got 980AM (KMBZ is a clear-channel station, so it drowns out 990AM CBC) <2> maxheadrm: winamp has shoutcast browsing built right in. :) <2> very nice i think <0> cappicard cool. i heard it did. thats what i was useing, shoutcast <2> yep <0> it was sky fm <2> I use streamtuner in Linux. It browses shoutcast, live365, google, and others <0> yes streamtunner <2> ah, sky fm is ok. I like club 977 stations <2> live 365 has too many commercials on their non-premium stations <2> Sean, try this one for size: http://saiya-jin.is-a-geek.com/music/Metallica/The%20Blackest%20Album%202%20(Tribute)/Techno%20-%20Fade%20To%20Black.mp3 <0> i like kgo, but i keep the address in a file and start it directly. <2> it's an cool twist to heavy meatal <0> rather than useing shoutcast <1> ack, it's gonna try to play it with QuickTime <1> argh <1> Derek: catchy. <2> thank ye <5> wtf.. when did Stargate switch to mp7s.. <3> what the hell's an mp7 ? <5> Viking667: 4.6mm SMG <3> huh? That's TINY <3> and what does "SMG" stand for? I'm not up with SG lingo, nor a lot of pistol/armoury lingo <1> Small Machine Gun, I think <3> ah. Now it begins to make sense. <3> But hell, 0.18" pellets... <0> small gun. hmm sounds like something that would fit on a "boat" <6> hi guys <0> thats like a "big boat" <5> Tamahome: Sub-Machine Gun, I believe, actually <1> could be sub <6> I have a small problem <5> the mp7 is more considered a sidearm, or PDW for for example tank crews <3> hrm. SubMachhineGun would have normally been .303 or better, I would have thought. <6> I'm trying to install linux on a system that has no cd drive (ie it's broken) <5> Viking667: 9x19 is common, someone thought 4.6x30 was better apprently <3> *sigh* <6> I put the HD in another system to install suse, when it rebooted after installing packages, I put the hd back into the cdromless system <5> no doubt they have the right of that, but in this cases it replaces the P90, which is 5.7x28 <5> ah anyway, who cares, it's a fictional story.. it justt bothered me ;) <6> so, now it doesn't boot properly... it thinks the mouse pad is /dev/hda1 ! <7> The alternator is replaced and checked <6> I'm in a minial environment... is there any way I can force a hardware detect to rebuilt the list of hardware? <8> hi Steakk <9> yoz <10> sup <4> KNP: There's a list of hardware to rebuild? <6> yes since it did the hardware detect while the hd was in another system <6> for that reason, it sees a mouse pad as a hard drive! <1> all that stuff is supposed to be dynamic <4> KNP: I seriously doubt that <4> /dev/input/mice is something entirely different from /dev/hda <3> lol. KNP: that reminds me of why Linus went with Linux to begin with - he accidentally tried using his hard drive as his modem when he dialled out to the university one day - as a result, it blew away his Minix install of the time. Since then, he's not looked back. Mighta looked sideways a few times, maybe even up or down ... <0> KNP i guess your /dev files are messed up. and that really is just a guess. <6> "Waiting for device /dev/hda1 to appear: Synaptics Touchpad, model: 1, fw: 5.7, id:0x9d48b1, caps:0x904713/0x4006 <1> very wierd. <6> yes
<6> As mentioned in Section 7.1.1, initrd the boot process starts with a minimum set of drivers that can be used with most hardware configurations. linuxrc starts an initial hardware scanning process that determines the set of drivers suitable for your hardware configuration. These values are later written to INITRD_MODULES in /etc/sysconfig/kernel to enable any subsequent boot process to use a custom initrd. During the installation process, <4> I'd say that's a timing issue. The synaptics pad's driver is loaded (and thus outputs to syslog) before the harddrive finishes initializing. Someone just forgot to put a "\n <4> somewhere <4> That's my guess <4> KNP: cd to /dev, and run MAKEDEV just in case. <4> KNP: If you want to check what hardware you do have, lspci helps. <6> lspci: no found <6> makdev: nout found <4> cat /proc/pci then, lspci is not always available <4> KNP: MAKEDEV, not makdev <6> how do you exit cat? <4> You don't, it dumps the file and exits <1> if he's planning to put this BACK IN ANOTHER MACHINE, that probably isn't smart to do <6> I put cat just to see if it existed <6> whatever I type it echos <4> KNP: it reads STDIN. ^c <6> tried that.. does do anything <4> KNP: Time for you to start reading up on what you're doing, this is not a cluebie "help I messed up" channel <4> Try ^d. ^c should work, if it doesn't...well, b0rkedness? <6> ok cat /proc/pci ... file doesn't exist <6> I can't even ls <11> PolarWolf: mornin' :-) <1> it's OK to have several UPDATE statements in one DB query, right? <3> hi Lion-O. <4> Lion-O: Ey <5> Tamahome: usually, yes, as long as they don'tt arget the same table(s) <6> what if, I try to mount a smb drive of the install dvd which is on another machine and start yast with that? <1> wlfy: coo' <4> KNP: Is the filesystem even mounted? <3> Tamahome: as in, UPDATE ..; update ...; ? <1> viking: *nodnod* <11> KNP: why would you need yast ? <6> polar: no not at all <3> mmmm. Thought that would be two queries... <4> KNP: mount -t none proc /proc <4> Or was it mount -t proc none /proc? <6> no such device <12> is it just me, or does 20MB/s transfer rate seem slow for gbit networking? <13> Tamahome: Sometimes some DB's will complain about multiple queries in one call, but generally speaking it's fine. <1> I wonder if I should be making this a stored procedure. <3> but I don't know diddly about SQL. I'm barely getting by with minimum "INSERT/SELECT/DELETE" <6> no such file or dir <4> KNP: Sounds like you have a throroughly ****ed system on your hands <11> KNP: so let me get this straight; pc without a cd and you wish to install Yast ? Does it have a floppydrive ? <11> s/Yast/SuSE/ <11> Viking667: eya <5> Tamahome: ah, if they are serialized queries, multiple updates of the same tables should be fine as well <6> yeah it does <5> Tamahome: I was refering more to updates in subqueries <6> I created the rescue disks <6> doesn't boot at all <6> I just get a black screen with the floppies <5> Viking667: for portable SQL, you can't do much more than basic stuff anyway ;) <11> KNP: then I agree with PW. b0rk hardware. SuSE would automaticly detect the new hardware. <0> KNP yea looks pretty bad. if i were you id get a recipie for installing and start over <1> wlfy: ah OK cool <0> dont try and just figure out how as you go <3> wlfshmn: mmmm. <1> wlfy: having to switch between now() and getdate() with MSSQL and MySQL is annoying enough. <6> if only I had a working laptop drdrom drive <11> KNP: if only you had a non-lame PC you mean. <6> drdrom = dvdrom <0> KNP some dists can be installed over the internet. others with floppies. <11> if it doesn't even have /proc after boot then something is majorly ****ed up. Simple. <11> personally I have a little problem believing this to be possible but hey... <3> bad init scripts? <3> bad fstab? <11> Viking667: newly installed SuSE? very unlikely. <3> yeah. Agreed. <4> Yeah, a b0rk fstab will do that. Or a b0rk kernel without /proc support. <6> well it scans for partitions hda1 and hda2, then it doesn't find them and exists to /bin/sh <4> It can happen. NFI why anyone would do such a thing, but it can happen.
