<0> and had to look it up in the manual <1> kurva! <0> heck, had most specs memorized for a while :) <0> ultima underworld was around then too, 1990 or so <1> there surely has been someone helping you. <0> cheeksy: yeah, never said I didn't bug the heck out of my parents :) <1> if you were such a wonderkid, you wouldnt be sitting here on irc now :-p <1> ah i knew it :o) <0> hmm, prince of persia too ... <1> so it must have been bedtime reading, the manuals, instead of fairy-tales :-p <0> sort of, yeah, hehe <1> ;o) <2> ~/win 13 <0> well, I tried to find it myself, but it was probably much pattern recognition <0> not actually cognitive understanding of it all <1> see, its because i started reading when i was 4. and i know that even though i started reading THAT early no matter what i was interested at that time, i wouldnt be able to read it on my own :o)
<1> that be ballet at that time. <0> cheeksy: well, my native tounge is Norwegian, and these were all in English.. so added to the complication :) <0> anyways, I have a lot to blame computers for, and a lot to thank it for, that I'm adequate in English today is one of the thing I can thank it for. <1> i danced since i was 2,5 and performed from about that age and new terminology from the age of 4-5. but reading serious stuff on the ballet? <0> hehe <1> adequate? <1> adequate isnt something good :o) <0> it isn't inadequate.. <0> but then it all depends on the context of which it is dicussed in, I tend to have high standards. <0> my grammar is a mess <1> so if your level of english is adequate, say your comprehension is adequate, it is kinda below satisfactory :-p <0> depends on the context :) but again, it might be a standards thing.. <0> anyways, time to run off for a lecture in finance.. <0> through the god damn SNOW <0> well, at least I can't drive, anyways.. <1> :o) <0> if I don't get an answer from legal today I'm going to choke someone Monday.. <0> ok... later <3> oh cool. turns out my blade server is busy pinging the network every second or so. That explains something with regards to network delays :P <4> Lion-O: how does a packet or two per second result in latency effects? <5> now I feel sick from the merenque <4> and it still alls me that blade servers are not in fact blade servers <3> wlfshmn: icmp takes a longer time to process. It looks like its quite m***ive with this <3> s/m***ive/anal/ <4> that sounds strange.. <4> icmp shouldn't be harder to process than udp <3> wlfshmn: well, constantly pinging a router will raise its load. <6> ummmm, block most ICMP inbound to the router ;) <3> Ah, seems I found the cause of my problem.. For some reason this new webserver starts pinging like crazy <7> Lion-O: its probably that solaris crap thats the problem <6> slowlaris :) <8> D-side: I found one of our Xserve boxes yesterday that has an uptime of 1557 days. OS X ****ing rocks. <8> 4.3 YEARS without a reboot. <9> Ka-bar: Nice. <9> I've got two boxen in the server room that were last rebooted when we moved to the new facility. :) <7> Ka-bar: so when are you buying a mac? :) <8> right after I win the lottery. :-/ <7> Ka-bar: if the original buyer falls through, i've got a mini here... :) <8> In the mean time, my contract just keeps going and going so I have this G5 on my desk for the forseeable future. <7> yes, but not at home. :) <8> D-side: a new mini? core 2 duo? <7> theres no such thing as a core 2 duo mini. <7> there are core duo minis, and thats exactly what i've got. <8> ah <7> theres nothing stopping you from putting a core 2 duo in it though. <8> dogbert2: where is that show running? I loved that show as a kid. Yes, it was stupid, but I still loved it. <6> Ka-bar, I have the entire series on DVD <8> you **** <8> :) <6> well, you can get your own DVD set <7> dogbert2: you'vegot a lot of really bad dvd sets. <6> oh well :) <7> heh <8> dogbert2: rip and torrent? :D <8> oh. did I say that with my out loud voice? <6> hehehehe...you cheap **** <6> I would, but I don't have any ripping s/w in my laptop...my desktop is in the shop being cloned
<10> guh <11> anyone have experience with nmap? <11> if launched from commandline with say a perl -e system() you cant get the status updates by pressing space/enter... any workarounds? <3> 'man nmap' <11> lion-o it goes without saying that ive read the man page numerous times as a first port of call :) <3> jox: does it? <11> and then there was the google search... yes i wouldnt ask here blindly, takes longer to log in to irc <3> naturally it also helps to specify in what way you're using nmap considering that it has a zillion options. Funny how you feel this isn't worth mentioning. <3> as if you ***ume it only performs one action and thats it. <3> so... read the manpage? I have my doubts. <11> its an IO issue basically, if spawned not directly at the shell you cant get the status updates by hitting space - regardless of what scan options have been p***ed <11> im probably missing something fundamental, but thanks for your words of encouragement <3> and if its output you're worrying about, why not save the output somewhere else? <11> because with a four hour scan it would be nice to see the progress <3> jox: so tail the logfile. <3> duh <11> at best you can run strace to see if its actually doing anything... the log files are written after the run not during <3> jox: uh huh <3> well then, not that I agree but hey; you read the manpage so will know best. You can also simply pipe the output through a pager <3> *nix offers you a zillion options to overcome this <11> i know but its the interactivity that im after... somehow the keyboard input is getting dropped. <3> status updates by pressing space huh? :P <3> bollocks <11> bollocks what? <3> never mind, I suggest you actually try to run nmap. <3> and RTFM <11> ugh, try pressing space or enter during a run and it gives you a percent value of the current run's comepleness <11> and ive READ THE ****ING thing <3> well, it doesn't. <3> how amazing. <11> lion-o maybe you should RTFM before trying it <12> hello <13> midday today there was a rather extensive snowfall... so today I walked home from work instead of taking the bus. the traffic was a mess. not ONE bus caught up with me. <14> Anybody want a new laptop? http://tinyurl.com/y6rh7q <13> but damn. its cold at home now. <14> Heh, in an e-mail from a $cow-orker a few minutes ago: "Just a heads-up about the closets. It shouldn't be possible to lock yourself in, but it is. Be sure to prop the door open if you are alone. I speak from personal experience. Cell phones are good to have." <13> hehe <8> couldn't come out of the closet, eh? <8> jlgaddis: only 512M on the lappy? what's the max it will take? <8> and do you know if it's linux-friendly? <15> jlgaddis: What're the chances of you enabling the quotedb RSS feed? <13> jlgaddis: need a handy C# RSS lib? :P <14> Ka-bar: It'll take 2x1GB, I believe. I installed FC6 on it last night just to play with. Only thing I didn't try to get working was the wifi, but I imagine it'll work (it's Broadcom 802.11b/g). <8> ok <14> ThomasM: I can do that. It'll have to wait until I talk to PW, though. It's running on his server, he made me give him a public key for auth and so right now I can only get in from a machine which is no longer online (and 50 miles away). <8> I intend to get a macbook for myself (eventually), but I know someone else who might be interested. <15> jlgaddis: Cool. Thanks. <1> The Illusionist is promising to be an alright movie. <8> cheeksy! <14> Ka-bar: Okay. It's damn near brand new, they purchased it to use for training cl***es but it was hardly used. The guy took it home and everyone in the family was surfing the web with IE6, no Windows updates installed, and no A/V. You can imagine why he got fed up with it. =) <1> evening, addicts <1> Ka-bar :o)) <16> cheeksy! <1> Eric :o)))) <8> jlgaddis: LOL, yeah. <13> cheeksy :) <1> ok i cant upload pictures to virtual tourist and it irritates me <1> JJ ;o) <17> i had a hard time with this gnome partitioner - gparted program, so I reinstalled linux picked erase all partitions and let it delete everything and rebooted before it installed the acual program. Then I used my partitioner magic 8 and left 10mb freespace on the HD. then reinstalled WIndows and after that I installed Fedora Linux. I had trouble so I went back with my partitioner magic and formated the freespace to linux ext 3 <8> jlgaddis: every time my kids come over and use my wife's PC (running XP Home), Macaffee(sp?) starts going bananas. <13> Ka-bar: hehe <17> dVNZDN <17> 'agn"AGn <17> agn <17> ar <13> Ka-bar: "accept" <8> virus/trojan spreaders must be targetting web sites that kids frequent. <13> *nod* <13> that and porn-sites <13> Nanuq: interesting enough? <8> hehe
