<0> a HPNS costs like a million
<1> And uses export files in ASCII using a cobol (iirc) export format which have to be imported intoan oracle database
<0> for something you can easily do with 50k worth of commodity unix kit, and do BETTER!
<1> I've written evil IMP specifications for Oracle to deal with that stuff
<0> PolarWolf: at lesat they're ascii. Ours is a horrible proprietary format that breaks everything every time anyone tries to change anything
<2> if Im still connected to the internet... this is damn good :P
<3> not for the rest of us
<3> Jostein: they make windoze for SPARC?
<2> heh
<2> Ok. I lose that one
<0> they made on for Alpha once upon a time...
<3> yeah I remember that.
<1> smsie: Up until Windows 2000
<1> There's still a Beta of that floating around, it never made it to release
<4> hola

<4> alquine que habla expaol o aleman ?
<4> jemand spricht deutsch
<0> do they still make IE for Mac?
<0> germany-2005: English please
<3> smsie: no
<2> germany-2005: ENGLISH
<0> germany-2005: for Spanish, try #linuxlatino
<5> o
<4> ok thanks
<3> smsie: no more IE for Mac. and no more WIndoze media player for Mac
<0> ah well
<6> no great loss
<5> they shoulda went with #liux instead of #linuxlatino
<3> yeah, not really
<0> what's the Mac web browser (Safari is it called?) like?
<3> cheeks!
<6> cheekygal!
<3> smsie: don't know. I run firefox
<3> smsie: it's Konqurer though under the hood I Thin.
<0> schitzo: oh, you're a poser with a Mac then? :)
<0> they're nice...just overpriced IMO
<3> smsie: I like to have consistent interfaces. So Firefox on the Sun, Windoze, and Mac
<0> yeah
<7> schitzo Ka-bar smsie :o)))))
<1> *burp*
<0> hometime
<0> later
<3> later smsie
<7> PeeWee :o)
<1> cheekygal: Ey
<6> Safari does use the KHTML engine, iirc so, yes, it's *like* konqueror
<6> Falchion?
<3> yeah, khtml konqueror something like that.
<3> it's not opera
<3> pan f'n tera
<8> Ka-bar?
<8> Safari soooo ****s.,
<9> i used a mac for like 2 months
<9> and i dont think i ever ran it
<9> :)
<9> hrm, the performance of macbookpro on windows xp is really impressive
<10> hehe
<11> tavi-san: die
<3> Ka-bar: it's the blue carpet channel.
<11> schitzo: Im syn-ack. :p
<3> SuperTrucker: I'm sorry.
<11> pfft. :p
<11> tavi-san: if you want XP get a PC. :p
<3> SuperTrucker: how's the road life treating you?
<11> Not too bad. Going back out tommorow.
<3> SuperTrucker: what are you hauling around?
<11> dry frieght
<6> coke or weed?
<3> SuperTrucker: where at? mid-central?
<11> schitzo: all 48.
<6> ow. really long haul.
<11> I was around in the colonies for a couple weeks not too long ago.
<11> was nice
<3> SuperTrucker: cool. wonder if you'll run into any of us hauling little trailers to races.

<11> Well, I go to Virginia quite a bit, so if you're in Bristol, maybe
<6> schitzo: any races planned for Limerock?
<3> SuperTrucker: no. not going to VIR this year.
<3> Ka-bar: no, bikes don't race at slimerock
<6> slimerock?
<9> SuperTrucker: bastard, i want a mac running XP
<3> Ka-bar: aka... limerock.
<9> they are fast and reliable
<9> also you are cool owning a mac
<11> But, XP isnt. :p
<9> ofc im bull****ting now i will never afford one
<6> schitzo: I know, but.... why "slimerock"?
<11> tavi-san: The whole point of getting a Mac is the the marrage of the hardware and software. :p
<12> hi :)
<11> whoa now, Im not that ugly. :p
<12> SuperTrucker: also both of them swallowing which means they work good together
<12> SuperTrucker: bastard!
<3> Ka-bar: beats me. just a nickname someone gave to it.
<12> i will cut my face now say goodbye to it :)
<13> how do i set up my ip from comand line
<13> ?
<13> my isp has dhcp
<13> have*
<6> nmdRA: stop abusing your enter key and go to tldp.org
<13> abusing ?
<14> Vonage has the ***-slowest server ever.
<6> nmdRA: yes, abusing. That's what I said.
<6> pmitros: how so?
<11> I thought about vonage pmitros, seem like a damn good choice for the price
<13> i am abusing of what ?
<14> ka-bar: Getting voicemail, or switching pages.
<14> supertrucker: I like it.
<6> pmitros: do you mean on their web site?
<6> nmdRA: never mind. go away.
<14> supertrucker: Bad parts: They make it a pain in the *** to cancel. Phone calls periodically break up a little. Gets bad during downloads, but otherwise fine (even if you have everything going through their box -- it doesn't load balance well). Otherwise, it works well.
<14> ka-bar: Yes.
<13> why
<14> supertrucker: Oh. And the account web site is ***-slow.
<13> isnt this a public channel ?
<6> mmmm..... load balancing....
<6> :)
<11> pmitros: Then I'll get a Crisco router that does VoIP
<9> dont use SIPURA ATAs
<11> Is that what you have?
<14> supertrucker: You can have voicemail sent by e-mail, or check it on the web site. I prefer to do the latter. It's good throughput, but very high latency. You click on a link, go back to IRC, type a message or two, and then it finishes loading.
<11> pmitros: hrm
<11> Can you still get your vm over the phone?
<14> super: I believe so. In fact, I'm pretty sure of it.
<11> Thats all I need to know. I dont want to HAVE to go to the computer to check my vm. that would be annoying as **** I think
<14> super: The nice thing is you can take your # with you traveling internationally.
<11> Yeah, I heard that.
<9> im using only cisco+sipura now here
<9> but i convinced to not buy ciscos for the routing parts
<9> leenooks will do it too
<14> super: I prefer doing it from computer. I'm always near a computer. Rarely near a phone. I also hate the stupid phone UIs where you need to have menus spoken to you, and press buttons/say numbers. The UI on a computer is much better, where you can see the from/date/length of all your voicemail for deciding what you'll listen to.
<11> You know if they got the whole 911 thing fixed yet? I hear they're getting sued since someone in Houston died from someone not being able to call 911 with Vonage
<14> super: Dunno. We keep a cell phone (without service) for emergency use.
<14> super: My guess is that the bigger problem is phone service goes away with power and network outages, rather than problems on Vonage's end. Vonage's problems are just more likely to hit the news.
<14> super: But you can get a cell phone supercheap.
<14> super: Cell phones can always do 911, even without service. It byp***es all authentication, goes to the nearest/best cell tower (regardless of company), and pushes off non-emergency calls (i.e. if a cell tower is full of calls, and a 911 comes in, one of the existing ones gets dropped).
<14> s/service/paid service/
<11> pmitros: Yeah, I know
<11> its called a "soft tone"
<3> http://tinyurl.com/nafyb
<9> pmitros: exactly
<9> here it's 112
<9> you can call even w/o a sim card in it
<15> how do you copy the whole directory content to another directory?
<15> cp directory directory1?
<10> man cp
<16> man cp
<17> hello...just need some help in Linux
