The gourds are goal two. <5> so make fun of me if you must, but at least i'm gettin' some. :P <4> jg oh i'll be getting some shortly <4> hell i got some just a little while ago :P <5> uh huh <1> Jg, your girl have the baby yet? <0> I got an english cucumber. <0> Not bad considering the season. <0> jgaddis: Anyhow, it's all theoretical for me. ;) <5> supertrucker: she's not pregnant :P <1> jgaddis: Ah, I never heard otherwise. I hit the road before I could find out the moral of your story. :p <5> supertrucker: ahh, yeah, that's been a while ago. remind me who you are again? <1> syn-ack <1> :D <5> ahhh okay <1> jgaddis: Hey you live in Terra Huate, right?] <5> bloomington <5> terre haute is about an hour to the west <1> Right, Im over that way quite a bit. I thought It was Terre Huate. <5> cool, you ever come to bloomington? <1> Not too much, mostly to Indie <5> that's not really far, either <5> i'm in indy once a week or so <5> you driving a truck now, i take it? <1> Heh <0> jgaddis: well it's not a typo! <1> Yeah, I know that I 80 like the palm of my hand <0> well, maybe it is <0> jgaddis: maybe I should go to bed now <5> supertrucker: lemme know if you're ever gonna be around here <1> jgaddis: you know it. My company is building a new terminal for us in Indy so I should be going there more often here soon. <1> jgaddis: Im gonna have to get your number so I can contact you on the road since I dont have a computer <1> out there <5> see /msg <0> hrm <5> sync'ing outlook w/ your ipod? <1> jgaddis: aye <1> Its somewhat a fluff item from Apple that allows you to store your Outlook contacts in your ipod <5> ahh okay <1> I figure my iPaq is too ****ed up to take with me on the road so I may as well use my ipod since it never leaves the truck less Im at home <5> hmm, schnikies's IP belongs to USI <5> supertrucker: you should take the ipaq and take advantage of open wifi on the road =) <1> heh <6> yeah <6> install pocketputty on it <1> jgaddis: its an old one and my battery's ****ed up on it <7> hheh I used to know someone that went by schniky online <1> its an old 5232 with no wifi and ****. <1> jgaddis: Im gonna get me a Toshiba Sattelite when the time comes. :) <8> I learned HTML in the 2.0 era, and dynamic web pages in the CGI scripts era. I'm thinking it's time to update my knowledge. Anyone know of a good book/tutorial on things like AJAX and Ruby-on-Rails? <9> meep! <5> pmitros: not really, though i've started to look at some "php frameworks" lately that handle similar things <9> pmitros, ah. cgi scripts... those are still fun. heh <9> gah.... got pieces of steak stuck between my teeth <8> jgaddis: I've used PHP briefly, just for a weekend (nothing serious), maybe 6 years ago or something. It's pretty good for thin/lightweight code, but unless it's changed significantly (which it may have, given 6 years), it doesn't scale well to complex systems.
<8> jgaddis: Ruby claims to be a real programming language (I've never used it), in contrast to PHP. <8> jgaddis: The nice thing about PHP was that it was very easy to embed little bits of it to otherwise static pages, adding little bits of dynamic content (again, about 6 year old knowledge, I would guess) <5> pmitros: i've heard the same about php not scaling well, but i can't comment one way or the other. it works fine for everything i'm using it for, but i'm not using it for any websites w/ m***ive traffic either <5> pmitros: that's still pretty much the nice thing about it. that and it's easy. <10> blah... should be asleep. But it's almost fun to finally get to flash upgrade **** in vmware rather than running to a windows box in another room <11> heya Ed <8> jgaddis: It's less a matter of scaling to m***ive amounts of traffic, for me; I never did performance analysis or crap like that; it's more a matter of scaling to complex programs. <10> heyo <11> complex programs have no place on a webserver :P <8> tama: They do. E.g., in the case of something like amazon.com, you need to do dynamic analysis of a user's history of accesses, perform hairy math, and generate a list of recommendations. <11> I'm sure they probably have a backend code to do that <8> Tama: It needs to happen on each page access, in many cases. Where that's placed depends on the application. <5> amazon.com likes to keep sending me an e-mail recommend "the complete freebsd", even though i ordered it (through them) ages ago <6> man <6> I had a really cultural weekend. <6> normally, you say the word "culture" and my eyes glaze over. <5> siglite: did an asian chick? <6> but I caught the symphony (with a guest piano virtuoso) and a really good jazz concert <6> man, that pianist was ****ing amazing <12> hi, I have a question about X <12> I know that exceed claims that they can suspend and resume x clients <12> I was wondering how this is possible, and if we can do the same in xfree86 <12> heh, silence, alright, have a good one <13> re <14> i need help with a ata3: error occurred, port reset error when trying to boot into mandriva install <6> there. <13> vIkSiT <3> OldMonk <15> Sounds like a hard drive going splat, psychoticj18. <6> or bad drivers <6> I think I've seen that when a distro loads up ide drivers for sata drives. <6> oh <6> he left. <16> lo folks <13> where does one setup static routes in debian? <6> OldMonk: there's a directive for the interfaces file. <6> OldMonk: uh, one sec <6> OldMonk: pre-up, up, pre-down, and down commands in /etc/network/interfaces <13> ah, thanks <6> they take shell commands as arguments <6> so in some interface definition you can use up route add -net foobarbaz <13> i can just create a new file in if-up.d/ <13> powerout <6> you can go that route too, but I tend to just use "up route add -net ..... <6> er, ok. <7> hrm finally got the damn fglrx drivers at least running on daemon <4> damn <4> this cd is pretty cool <4> DJ Vadim - Life from the other side... <4> welp <4> its time for me to go to work <4> laters <17> ferghm, I hate monday mornings <17> loaded with work, not sure where to begin <18> sunblade: at the pub, work? whats that? <16> monday mornings ****S! <16> sitting at work again! <17> sjh: bah, can't wait until it's weekend :) <18> well on camus here there is wireless coverage over a large amount of the campus <18> so I can wander 50 metres from my office to one of the best cafes around and sit down and work from there with my laptop if I feel like it <18> s/camus/campus/ <18> though as sunshine and laptop screens do not mix well I do not do that often, ahh well <17> heh, nice though <17> oh well time for another cappuccino, at least that can't taken away from, unless machine b0rk <17> Already got my cup so :) <19> XyZzY: brute! <20> lol
