<0> fps - you shoot everything that moves, unless it's a team mate. <1> fps - Shoot everything that moves. <1> rts - build units to shoot anything that moves <2> Viking667: Team kills are fun and are a sure way to piss off everyone around you! <0> ewww. <0> good way to get you kicked off servers too. <0> So's camping, I hear. <2> Camping is good strategy. No matter what the idjits tell you. <2> Ask Sun Tsu <3> I never understood why camping is frowned upon <4> RTS is dead, but RTS has had warcraft, TA, c&C, area 51 and what not. <3> camping is a good idea <1> Most well-thought-out maps won't offer many camping spots <0> Only for the time that yo don't get discovered. i.e. schmuck spawns, gets blown away. yeesh. No fair play. <3> safemode: but RTS is not significantly different now from C&C...which was what, 10 12 years ago? <2> CeruleanD: Good campers have no issues with camping in an open field :P
<1> hehe, true Polar <5> damn... I just had the wrong output plugin selected <1> But you have to keep moving <2> CeruleanD: JUst keep moving a bit, and have the rest of the team cover your *** from the dimwits with SMGs <4> RTS isn't just build units and shoot anything. the method of gameplay was pretty distinctly different when you got to another publisher's games. You can't play one and get real good and then goto another and just be good. You could very well **** ***. FPS games have no real differentiation. If you're good at quickly and accurately moving your mouse and shooting people, you'll be good in any FPS <6> smsie: aye. Only AI improvements and heavily graphical improvements. And if you put that line next to UT (old) vs UT2k4 it'll apply too. <3> safemode: if you're good at quickly seeing strategies to win, you'll be good at any RTS game <1> salemode: That goes the same with RTS, every RTS has a specific strategy for each "race" or "side" that once figured out, becomes the key to winning. <6> safemode: bah, that goes for every game. If you know your RTS basics then almost any RTS game can be relatively easily mastered. <3> safemode: you're making m***ive generalisations to support your ***ertion <1> yes <4> smsie: that's not a valid blanket statement. If you're good at RTS games you'll be good at any rts games... that's is jibberish <3> safemode: it's identical to your argument <4> smsie: no it's not <2> Are we talking about playing against an AI or a real live player? <6> safemode: not during first play, no. But you'll soon get the hang of it. Same applies to FPS. <1> So is your argument safemode <2> Whole different ballgame <3> which is "if you're good at FPS, you'll be good at any FPS game" <6> smsie: I still recall UT vs quake. It took getting used to but in the end... <1> I can't imagine someone who's good at Warcraft 3 who can't quickly become good at, say, Kohan or Warzone 2100 or Dawn of War <3> Lion-O: yeah. I prefer UT. NEver did like the quake engine <4> smsie: quickly and accurately moving your mouse around and clicking it, will make you good at fps games in general. Because that's what they all do. There is no single strategy or action in an RTS game that will make you good at any others but the one you're practicing on. The strategies are different, the point is different and the specifics of the gameplay and measure of what winning is is different <6> smsie: same here. But I think I'm an old geezer there since I never started to like UT2k4, I'm still playing the original release every now and then. <4> FPS can't even touch that level of variety <3> safemode: I submit that you have NOT played any fps recently if you truly believe that <4> you can't just get good at strategy <6> fps can have a helluva lot of strategy <0> safemode: actually, "strategy" seems to be a wide field. <1> Many FPS's offer a level of strategy too, when and where to use which weapons, where and when you should be to not get killed <3> safemode: tell you what. PLay CTF against experts. If you can't formulate winning strategies, you're going to get *creamed*, no matter HOW good you are with a mouse <1> Yeah I get the feeling you're making ***ertions based on... what, Doom 2? <0> I remember a RTS based upon a Samurai squad. <2> Playing the regular single player FPS games are indeed very alike. Walk through a map finding the exit, wiping out everything you see. <0> except it wasn't ... multiplayer <4> Jostein: yawn? try diabetic coma <6> PolarWolf: but the same applies to RTS in that context. <2> Lion-O: Aye, thats why I said that playing against an AI or a real live player are different ballgames <6> PolarWolf: although I have to admit that some games deviated from that. I still recall C&C missions with a single unit. <0> lol. I've got C&C - I've never quite twigged how to get good. <3> TBS is more interesting to me anyway <1> I couldn't get through the first C&C like 4 missions in years ago and that kinda turned me off to the whole series. I'm weird, I know. <2> Viking667: Build m***ive forces, play defensive, and when you have sufficient, blast the AI with swarms of goons from different sides <3> removing reaction time from the equation is more fun IMO <7> Hi Everybody <6> blech.. probably a discussion killer but in the end all games **** :P <1> It depends entirely on each persons preference of gameplay. I have a friend who, if he were here, would vehemently tell you that *all* RPG's and MMO games are ****. <2> I like racing games now :) <0> ech. I've got AoE too... never got very far with that. <3> CeruleanD: he'd be correct :P <0> I can't STAND car racing games. <1> He prefers the twitch games, especially multiplayer ones like Counter-Strike or BF/BF2. <6> PolarWolf: hmm ;) I always liked microprose for that, it even allowed you to run your F1 car the wrong way, sometimes that was hilarious. <2> Viking667: With force feedback steering wheels and a large screen, it starts to become a bit more appealing :) <3> racing games became more fun as the reality level increased (IMO) <1> I hate the racing games that have the uber advanced physics, like Gran Turismo. I prefer things a little dumbed down, like The Rock or Need For Speed. <0> PolarWolf: mrmmm. <7> I just want to know what is the name of the program under ubuntu ( or any other distrib. ) That manage the power of the cpu. Cause I Have a Intel Mobile and my linux think that it's a 800mhz and it's a 1.7. So if any1 know the name, i'll thx it ;)
<8> PolarWolf: our company next door just built a full racing chair with a 32" widescreen TV <1> My favorite so far has been Rallysport. <6> Jostein: hmm, sweet <9> dudes <8> PolarWolf: guess who's going over there every now and then :P <1> Jostein: niice <2> Jostein: Cute <1> hehe <6> Jostein: any movement on it ? <3> Xtrem3: cpudyn <7> thx <8> Lion-O: no movement on the chair, but its indeed a nice rig <8> Lion-O: they built it for a "messe" down in germany in next week <8> Lion-O: even though they're in the power business :P <6> Hmmmm, I recall my first Outrun arcade experience in the hall... In Scheveningen (near Den Haag, for obvious reasons). Hmm, now that was fun, years ago though. <8> messe=convention <6> s/Scheveningen/Zandvoort/ <8> I sure as hell hope they dont dismantle it when they get back :P <2> I should get the PS2 online and find someone to race against <1> Naw, they won't have a chance, it'll disappear the day after they get back. ;) <8> PolarWolf: thats one thing I hate with the PS2. online gaming ****s <2> Jostein: Never tried, really <8> PolarWolf: I tried with GT4. so much mess <2> Jostein: I have GT4... <8> PolarWolf: but to be honest GT4 was designed for LANs not for internet <2> Jostein: We should set up a game sometime :P <8> PolarWolf: heh <7> smsie, thank you very much, it work well now :) <3> you#re welcome <8> PolarWolf: GT4 is awesome <2> Jostein: Aye <4> being able to saturate my pata disks without causing any noticable system impact is pretty nice <2> Jostein: Does it need some kind of dedicated server? <4> while encoding movies <8> PolarWolf: but I hope they make that online gaming thing a HELLUVA lot better on the PS3 ... <8> PolarWolf: you need to hook it up via a PC running some flaky windows software thats -fairly- unstable :( <8> PolarWolf: wine wont do, as it installs systemdrivers <8> PolarWolf: or maybe just make a local SSH-tunnel :P <2> Jostein: Thats the **** <8> PolarWolf: havent tried that <2> Jostein: ipip or GRE tunnels might work <2> Jostein: As long as broadcasts are supported, I guess <8> PolarWolf: to be honest Im not even lightly experienced when it comes to tunnels. I know its supposed to be simple, but Ive never had a use for them <4> synapsis: You can have that shipped to me within the week <10> safemode: Not even if you gave awesome head. <11> synapsis: that a roots blower? <10> Yep. <10> Vintage GMC 6-71. <9> dudes <9> 36734 root 59 0 2788K 2400K RUN 45:14 49.02% 49.02% mc <9> 7698 root 60 0 1392K 1036K RUN 101.1H 48.14% 48.14% ee <9> do you think it is ok? <6> level27: Please goto http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html, and re-read your question again. Then try asking something which *does* make more sense. <4> synapsis: what psi will it put out? <10> safemode: It actually depends on the engine you put it on. <11> right. I'm away to bed <10> I'm expecting 6-8 on the motor I'm putting it on. <9> load average is between 2 and 3 <9> but there is nothing runnung except apache <9> os is debian <8> PolarWolf: anyway. Id love a match. And if we can find a way besides that silly & buggy winsoftware.. Im all for it <11> synapsis: what capacity is the engine you're putting it on. <4> synapsis: and what's the maintaince of that thing? how many miles before you have to have it worked ... <10> 392 hemi <2> Jostein: Well, I'd say its worth a shot <12> level27: run top and see.. <8> PolarWolf: not on this GPRS thing though <4> I thought roots blowers were fairly short lived withe the blades and such needing to be resurfaced to retain their seal <10> safemode: Not that much really. I'm not sure about the mileage. <2> Jostein: I'd say as long as the PS2's think they're on a LAN there should be zero problems
