<0> safemode: hmm. I beg to disagree. My tutorial bot is actually finding some good uses.
<0> not all bots are retarted 8)
<1> bots that can smoke pot
<2> it's a mistake to believe that all code should be written multithreaded
<3> safemode: as for useful... Me and Lion-O has agreed to use our botframeworks to make battlebots which shall battle each other! *girn*
<0> yeah! C# vs. Java. now whatcha think of that?
<4> what little I know about programming, I tend to like threading. Mainly because when I am programming, I tend to be programming network server type things where threads fit well.
<5> I think both will throw an exception and exit abruptly :)
<1> c# and java.. what blastphamy .. :)
<0> Tamahome_: when it comes to irc you really need multiple threads.
<0> Jostein: cool, at least the crowd hates us together 8)
<3> Lion-O: lol
<4> Lion-O: it's a safe generalization for network apps.
<6> I like threading and runtime pluggable modules for my projects
<3> siglite: *nod*
<0> safemode: *nod*

<3> safemode: then you like my project!
<6> cept i like C/C++ and not C# or java
<6> and i like using mime types for file detection, not extensions.
<1> C/C++ bots vs Perl Bots.. much better :)
<0> ok, you guys write those then our C# & Java bots will fight your C & Perl bots on Neko
<3> Emerson: perl would win in a breeze. it would obfuscate c/c++ in a second
<6> so my programs usually require libmagic
<2> I so can't wait for X3
<3> Tamahome_: *nod*
<1> Lion-O, that would require me to be bored enough to write one
<6> X3 is gonna rock ....though i'm still not sure more than V for Vendetta
<6> I would need a serious serious lack of creativity to stoop to writing irc bots
<6> i'll write another frontend to encoders first
<3> safemode: nah. its just the yahtzeebot we have dont have decent statistics.
<6> since i use those a lot and never can find a frontend that does everything i need
<1> safemode, video encoder?
<7> I wrote my own in Python
<6> video and audio
<1> safemode, I basically use avidemux..
<3> I wrote my one in ircII long ago
<3> but this project is much cooler, on many levels
<3> my own
<6> my current frontend does audio, frontend for lame and oggenc. Does batch encoding in parallel and allows thread pausing/cancelling and many tunable options
<1> safemode, kewl
<1> lol
<6> though, i'm going to extend it eventually to do video too...for things like encoding season dvds and such
<5> safemode: the smp thingie?
<5> Jostein: I only have one left
<6> though that **** is really hard to do for video... every episode can be different
<3> K_F: I only have 3
<0> still, an irc bot can make a very nice project for the sake of experience.
<6> K_F: yea, my smp-encode program for audio
<0> the sole reason why I started on mine.
<6> i wrote mp3stat and smp-encode for experience :)
<0> safemode: you have to start somewhere 8)
<8> hello Lion-O
<3> safemode: I write this for everyones enjoyment :P
<1> safemode, depends on how you plan on encodeing it.. I do the same thing for anime.. I actually just wrong a bash script using meconder
<1> s/wrong/wrote .. damn
<0> right now my two main "projects" are a program to grab certificates from a keystore and convert 'm to pkcs12, and this irc tutorial bot.
<9> hello
<6> many times thare are slight variations in the crop / scale / bitrate for each episode in a dvd. each one has to be looked at separately to make sure it comes out perfect
<1> Jostein, I'm out of weed.. so not bong for me
<3> Emerson: oh well. now you at least have anice pink plastic pony
<1> safemode, depends on what kind of video you are working with
<0> Emerson: or did your little brother take it? ;)
<0> Emerson: http://bash.org/?633735
<3> Lion-O: lol
<1> Lion-O, lol
<6> I've been encoding **** with mencoder/gordian knot and transcode for half a decade ...it's very fun finding out all the intricacies with getting everything the way it should. Especially when it comes to getting the aspect ratio right, taking into account that pal/ntsc pixels aren't square but pc's are...and which should you be encoding to for intended viewing and blah blah blah
<6> anyways, off to the concert. later.
<0> safemode: have fun!
<2> later Ed
<3> later
<0> hmm, one problem remaining with my hawt bawt; dcc port. I can fix a port but that won't work for incoming connections.
<0> or so I think.
<3> Lion-O: the dcc thing?

<0> Jostein: yah
<3> Lion-O: surely java must have a way of reserving ports
<7> Lion-O, um, for incoming DCC requests you connect outwards
<7> Lion-O, I'm just confused which direction you're meaning
<0> Jostein: it has, but when someone else initializes the connection...
<3> Lion-O: ah. but then they open a port. all you have to do is connect back, right?
<0> Liandrin: from outside to my bot.
<7> Lion-O, so, DCC offers to the bot
<3> Lion-O: *nod*
<7> Lion-O, in which case, you connect outwards to the other end's port
<0> Liandrin: while I can simply pinpoint it to a single port I don't think this scheme works when people will open connections to the bot themselves.
<0> Liandrin: thats what I'm thinking too. Not elegant but it works I suppose.
<7> Lion-O, er, I dunno how else you'd do it
<0> Liandrin: neither do I :)
<7> Lion-O, and as far as the bot doing the offering, you just ask accept()-equivalent for "some port"
<0> but that will be stuff for "tomorrow".
<7> the only potential issue with DCC CHATs is that some clients send \r\n (like they should), some send just \n (ugly but it works), one actually sends \n\r :|
<7> file transfers are slightly nontrivial, but that's because the protocol itself is b0rken
<10> I have reverse lookup questions
<10> anyone ?
<3> $ find ./ -iname *.cs | xargs grep -v "//" | grep -c ""
<3> 3443
<3> Lion-O: yours? :P
<10> for a network of 71.143.112.168/29 ( 5 static IPs ) i want to set up reverse name look for 71.143.112.170 ....Wondering if someone can direct me in the right direction
<10> ?
<5> ... your ISP
<10> do i have to call my ISP
<10> ?
<5> kalamzau: http://www.dnsstuff.com/info/revdns.htm
<10> thanks
<11> kalamzau, what distro?
<3> K_F: you know... people -come- to my betachannel to try out my beta bot :P
<3> I havent even asked them or told them. lol
<3> K_F: you should make a story about yahtzee!
<5> hehe
<5> Jostein: try Morgonstemning
<3> god damn, its sunday allready :P
<5> rather suiting
<5> yes it is
<5> hehe
<9> how do I burn a dvd-video in mandriva?
<5> same way as you burn a DVD video in any other distro
<3> K_F: I actually have morgenstemning, but I think Im in mood for something less ...NRKish
<9> do I just make a map that says video_ts and put the files there?
<5> Jostein: okay, Pan Pipe Moods with Careless Whisper then
<3> K_F: you are evil, you know that?
<5> oh?
<5> Jostein: if I was evil I'd tell you to go to http://www.kristianfiskerstrand.com/2006/03/03/muppets/
<5> and play that one..
<3> I wont. thanks
<5> mahnamana
<5> du du dududu
<3> K_F: you happy? :P
<2> K_F: heheh
<12> lion-0
<13> Sean
<2> Eric
<12> zidane
<5> match1: ?
<2> you would :P
<5> du du duduud
<14> tap tap.. mahnamahna..
