<0> source code?
<0> :)
<1> yeah. The v6 source code to UNIX. Old stuff.
<1> And, considering there's pre-ANSI (and possibly even pre-K&R) code in there, it'll prove ... entertaining. Wonder what I'd have to do to get it all to work on a modern machine, and not a PDP-11/45 ?
<0> Viking667: you're working on an actual PDP-11/45?
<1> actually, no. Just an emulator
<1> sihm
<1> err, sorry, simh. Seems to do the job okay, and does it better than one other emulator I've tried.
<0> I used to do tons of work on PDP-11 machines, back in the day. Wrote more code in Macro-11 than I care to remember. ;)
<0> Captain on deck!
<2> make it sew! :D
<2> i got my DVD burner installed :)
<1> Ka-bar: well, I've also been playing with RSTS/E 7, but wanting to know where to get ebooks for RT11

<2> let's see if I can watch a DVD
<1> cool.
<0> RSTS was a cool OS. Wish I'd gotten to play around with it more. Most of my PDP-11 work was with RSX-11 and a little bit of RT-11.
<1> what's the difference between rsx-11 and RT-11 ?
<1> I sorta like RSTS/E ... I can at least DO stuff in it now.
<1> though TECO is an utter bitch in comparison to vim.
<1> and I'm not sure how to get a later version of RSTS/E than 7.0
<2> damn ... libdvdread: Can't seek to block 9149
<0> RT-11 was a small monolithic real-time OS. RSX-11 was more of a multi-user, multi-tasking system, but with nice realtime hooks still so you could build neat graphics systems around it. VAX/VMS was the 32-bit replacement for the 16-bit RSX-11 system.
<0> In fact, early versions of VMS had an RSX emulation/compatibility mode.
<1> heh. And the only way I can get VMS is to purchase the damn CD and chop about 1.5GB out of my system for its use...
<1> That's one system I really HAVE been wanting to try out for more than 30 seconds.
<1> About all I DO know about it is that the filesystem maintains versions of files, so there are some other filename restrictions ya have to be aware of.
<3> hrm
<3> do I apply for the job that claims to be 50% sysadmin, 50% project management, budget, and other?
<0> Viking667: yeah, VMS has a versioning filesystem. It can be very cool in some ways, a real PITA in others.
<1> yup.
<1> just don't stick ;3 on the end of your filename, you'll be right...
<0> hehe
<1> Right. I really have to go...
<2> damn... xine nor mplayer is playing my van helsing dvd
<4> cappicard: dcss or whatever the decryption libs called installed ?
<2> yeah
<2> Cannot open the IFO file for DVD title 10
<0> yo, Brian
<5> hey.
<6> yo, ****face
<0> heh
<7> oy w4lking d34d!
<8> fun
<9> if I use rm -f * is it possible to get the files back or are they wiped for good?
<8> MetalWyrm: if you have to ask, they're gone for good.
<2> LOL...
<2> you're SOL
<9> lol ****
<9> I thought I was in another directory =/
<8> otherwise if it was ext2 you can dump the individual inodes from debugfs, but no filenames.
<0> MetalWyrm: you do have a backup, right?
<8> ext3 sometimes works, but I think debugfs doesn't work properly with the journal, last time I screwed up, debugfs told me there were no deleted files, at all, ever ;P
<9> ka-bar, of some of the files Ithink
<10> how i can delete , transfer or rename file on the BetaFTPD ( X-DSL )
<9> I gotta stop using -f all the time =/
<0> RelDrgn: in that case, the files have only been deleted in the journal... truncate the journal, sync and you *might* get the files back, in theory, though I know of no utility that does that.
<8> w00t-: does this look like #betaftpd or something? besides, issuing commands is a client issue anyway.
<8> Ka-bar: yeah, but by the time that I did that, the partition had been in use for years, and there wasn't a single inode with dtime set ;P
<0> ack
<8> maybe 3 reuses inodes that are still in the journal faster or something, that might explain some of it
<11> Hi guys, I just finished with a Gentoo install, and I see that my tmpfs is 442.41 MB. Is this normal?
<12> Hi!
<12> Do you know how can I (as root) prevent a user from changing his p***word himself?
<0> try google or #linuxhelp this is not a help channel
<12> I've already tried google, but... ok, I'll try linuxhelp, "thanks" anyway
<2> there. got my dvd burner playing dvds. but it's skipping abit
<13> hi all, anyone here have succesfuly setup a Linux box as a wireless AP? what are the ingredients? thanks, (i got Intel P3 and Orinoco Silver card)
<0> ngine: google should be able to help with that. there are several different ways to do it, from what I understand, though I've no experience with it myself.
<14> hey, i did an "use="real" emerge win32codecs" and rmvb files work but they skip a second like they're in fastfoward. any solutions?
<13> thanks Ka-bar
<0> clarkent_: I have absolutely no clue what you are talking about. Care to provide at least just a teeny little bit of context? You think we're mind-readers here?
<14> i installed codecs to be able to run rmvb, real media, so i can watch some files with that extensions and everytime i play a rmvb it skips a second like it's in fastfoward

<14> sorry i thought i was clear in the 1st message but now that i read it, it doesn't make that much sense
<8> clarkent_: right, so you're watching this in vi? pico?
<8> or are you like the guys in the Matrix who just have the codec dump the decoded video to the screen in hexadecimal and can see the lady in the red dress?
<2> LOL
<7> I tried mplayer with the aalib output, rather interesting
<15> XyZzY: caca is better :)
<8> caca's the one that can do color, right? ;)
<15> yep
<7> libolt: have to try that one
<15> you can actually somewhat distinguish shapes :)
<8> and now the world will never know
<16> hehehehe...
<8> since I'm feeling helpful and that loser ran away...
<8> vortex__: you can keep a user from changing the p***word themselves by denying them access to the "p***wd" program
<17> hy
<17> hy
<8> /k KaZo0 * RelDrgn slaps KaZo0 around a bit with a boot
<17> what i got to do to have acces?
<16> bwhahahaha
<8> what the hell are you talking about? Access to what?
<17> x
<16> hopefully, not your schlong, RelDrgn
<8> X?
<17> yes
<8> as in The X Window System Version 11?
<17> no...
<17> y just want @
<16> give him the boot
<8> now where was I before some luser slapped me... ah yes
<8> ngine: only certain wirless chipsets will work as APs (for a long time, your choices were basically orinoco and prism2) and thanks to intel pumping a lot of work into the 2.6 kernel to get their centrino stuff working, a lot of whats out there on the internet is obsolete. Your best bet is to start by taking a current kernel and looking at the drivers in it, possibly even reading the comments in the source code to see if it's got host_ap support. g
<8> hm, that was long
<16> no kidding :)
<13> heh :) thanks RelDrgn, I saw an article on google its say my card must support "Master mode" unfortunately no. very bad. 4 of my cards
<16> ngine, what are j00 trying to do?
<13> setting up my old stuffs (old PC and old orinoco silver card) to become an AP
<16> ummm, wouldn't be easier just to BUY an AP? :)
<13> yeah, true. this just for hobby
<16> a WRT54G with dd-wrt will kick *** :)
<5> bedtime. gnights.
<13> yeah, dogbert my boss bought that model and setup his own wireless net in his room, his not confident to connect to my net. And I found out, no WEP or WPA
<13> just MAC filtering :)
<16> ngine...ummmm, no...my brother's WRT54G supports WEP, WPA, WPA-2 (stock)
<16> dd-wrt adds all sorts of stuff
<13> dogbert2: yeah, it supports but he didnt setup
<16> pfft...how hard is it to set up...WEP with PSK is easy :)
<13> airodump or kismet will smile on their MAC address
<13> ses
<16> well, at a bare minimum you should have MAC filtering enabled
<16> typical person in the neighborhood won't be able to connect :)
<13> yes, newer AP's doesnt broadcast weak IV's, i think WEP is still good, 256 or 128
<16> yeah...agree...also, restricting the number of DHCP connections helps
<7> I thought WEP was trivially cracked
<7> ao am I thinking WPA?
<16> XyZzY...it's weak at 40/56 bits...better at 128/256
<16> WPA/WPA2 is better
<7> AES is better yet
<13> :)
<18> Hmm. YOURSISTERGAVEMETHECLAP.COM is unregistered.
<16> bwhahahaha
<4> hmm, nucking futs, mountain unicycle riding
<2> meep!
<16> m0000
<2> heya db2. how goes it?
<16> ummmm, just relaxing
<7> trying to get dual monitors to work with seperate screen ID's. that way I can play a movie on one and have a terminal on the other. eVga 6200 agp card 256mg ram. Analog LCD is on vga connector, TV is on svideo connector.
<2> just playing with a new toy. got a dvd burner :D
<16> plugh
<7> best I can get it to do is show identical screens on both screens
