<0> tastes like anchovies <1> man they work me like a dog! <2> thebenke, CNTRL ALT Backspace <0> Emerson: benifts package is a flea collar? <3> Try this... <3> lol <4> Emerson: what, feed you dog treats and hit you on the nose with a rolled up newspaper? <3> Did you just make him close the window, lachat? <1> Zymurgy, of course the only question Im asking myself right now is do I want a joint or a bowl! <2> CeruleanD, No, restart X <1> Zymurgy, exactly <3> Really? <3> I had no idea. <1> XyZzY, and a horrid flea bath once a month <2> CeruleanD, Yep; been doing this for over 10 years <3> *debates trying it for giggles*
<3> Well, in that case I'll take your word for it, but it's definitely something I'll have to try when I don't have 3 projects going on in 8 windows, hehe <3> Welcome back thebenke. All better now? <2> CeruleanD, Save often especailly when following new commands on irc <5> CeruleanD: yes, thanks <3> *nods* Oh yes, definitely <1> so as I was saying, do I want a joint or a bowl? <3> lol <0> Emerson: do both, save some brain cells deciding <3> As I understand it, joints are less concentrated, bowls are more of a pain in the *** to setup <1> CeruleanD, as you understand it? do you partake regularly? <3> Never have <3> But most of my friends do <1> CeruleanD, ahh. then your opinion is moot! :) <3> lol, true, true, I'm only regurgitating what they have told me <1> bowls are generally quicker to setup, but joints is just like a cig, quick and easy <3> And what I've witnessed myself (i.e. wanting to get high, but being frustrated 'cause they haven't cleaned the bong in months, hehe) <1> well, after you get it rolled that is <6> Zymurgy: actually i start the fire by recycling household cardboard <1> CeruleanD, drop some ice in the bong it'll be fine <3> Or bowl rather <3> Ice? <3> I'll have to p*** that one <3> er, on <6> Zymurgy: hippie -- environmentally sensitive <1> in <1> CeruleanD, in a bong/water pipe you want ice to cool it down.. now in a pipe as long as you can **** through it.. its all good! <5> and another question about ProFTPD, how can I set an bandwidth limit? <1> thebenke, bandwith quota <3> That was a problem I witnessed once where the bong was pretty clogged, they couldn't **** through it at all, had to scrub it out with a toothbrush. <5> Emerson: yes <3> No no, I think that was his answer <5> lol <1> thebenke, good, now that you know that, use your friend google, we arent your personal help desk <0> well not unless you pay us $bookoobucks <3> http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html <3> ^---excellent site thebenke. ;) <4> whitecap: *nod* sounds about the same as we do with our woodstove :) <5> okay :p <1> thats the only ****ty part of my job is that I have to do 2nd teir help desk and right now cover 1st teir for the idiot they just fired. I hate helpdesk.. so untill I am pulled off the helpdesk for good, which should be soon... any stupid questions will be larted! <3> ew <3> *shudders* helpdesk <3> Go to that website Emerson, after reading it you'll want to email out to the entire user community. <1> CeruleanD, i know that webpage backwards and forwards <1> its why I **** at helpdesk <1> I ask 1000questions and people get frustrated, and I say back "this is to help me help you" which they get even more pissed off at... *sigh* I hate helpdesk <7> does anyone know how to go about installing ssl certificates? <3> Can't blame you at all. I did it for almost 2 years and still, technically, am (although for only 28 people it's very much a secondary part of the job) <1> Chillo, yes Im sure someone does <7> does the server for example secure.domain.co.uk have to be browseable first? <3> It would make testing easier, I'd think <7> for ssl cerulean? <7> so i should add an A Record to point to the IP first? <3> Oh I have no idea, I'm pulling **** out of my ***, I've never had to install a ssl certificate. <7> then install the ssl certificate? <1> CeruleanD, thats why 2nd teir is so important to get too now.. We need 1-2 (maybe 3) more people on helpdesk and I can go do my real job (rebuilding the entire network) <3> Where are you? <7> im in uk <3> If you're around my area I can find you some top notch HD people <3> North of Boston, MA <3> I was asking Emerson :)
<7> im in uk <8> Chillo: CeruleanD is right... "man openssl", and refer to certifiers documentation <7> ? <8> for testing, having the site online and browseable would be a big help. <7> what openssl ? <1> CeruleanD, the good part is that most of the helpdesk is simple. we are talking about going to $local-tech-college and handing out tests and hireing the top 2 part-time <7> cynic: basically you mean add the sub domain secure.domain.co.uk to an A record first? <3> That's good at least <1> CeruleanD, we handle over 20,000 calls a month with only 4 HD people <8> Chillo: http://www.openssl.org/. Having the DNS in there isn't necessary to actually obtain a CSR, private key, or certificate, but it would help you test it once the certificate has been implemented. <7> ive got the certificate approved <1> CeruleanD, most of the time its just RMA/Depot which is 2 mins phone convos. <3> The HD I was on was just after the dot.com crash (which is why I was there, heh), and almost the *entire* team of 30+ people were all former sys admins, programmers, developers, etc., the lowest paid one there had been making $25/hr at his previous job, now we were all making $15/hr contract. <3> oooh ok, I was about to day, how the hell would you do that, lol <7> shouldnt i add the a record first so it propagated? <1> CeruleanD, everything is webbased .. and I am thinking about a quicker way to handle our latest client's call volume .. :) <3> When I left we had about 35 people and we were swamped. <3> heh, I so wish I had the power to control that sort of thing at a company <3> As is I've almost always been in a position where I was lucky if I could even suggest something, let alone see it get put into production. <8> Chillo: sure! go for it. <7> hmm <7> im so confused <1> CeruleanD, I have worked with this company for 1yr 8months ... I was doing nothing but field work for them for all that time, they have moved me to the HQ and basically put me as "sr. field engineer, System Admin, and 2nd Teir Help Desk <1> CeruleanD, basically we do onsite/RMA/Depot <1> we cut our teeth in the clustering market.. now we have expanded to home PC with our latest client. People like us and don't but we are better than what $company was using <3> Gotcha, at the last HD I worked at (for Philips), we were the internal corporate helpdesk, we took only user calls, so most calls lasted at least 5 minutes unless it was something simple like a p***word reset. Unfortunately they use Lotus Notes, and the helpdesk was first/last line of support for Notes, so many calls went over an hour sometimes, hehe <9> ewwwwwwwwww Notes <3> Yeah, Lotus Notes is the devil. Only software I hate more than Outlook/Exchange. <3> Email software that is <1> CeruleanD, what Im testing out for the entire helpdesk staff's desktop is Ubuntu $latest + Enlightenment DR17 + Wine + Winetools, now granted this isn't untill E DR17 is stable (which could be awhile) <9> Novell Groupwise is pretty horrible too <1> Hey its 1000x better than MS' idea of a mail server <3> Yeah it is Tamahome <3> lol XyZzY <0> Emerson: 1000 * 0 is still 0. :) <1> and to be honest it has it's quarks but its not bad at all <3> Not from a support standpoint, MS Exchange is simple to admin and support users on. It might not be secure, but it's much more stable that Notes and a LOT easier to teach a user how to use. <1> CeruleanD, Notes is stable if properly implemented <9> http://www.theregister.co.uk/2006/02/06/torvalds_gpl_analysis/ <-- a good read (about Linus rejecting GPL 3.0) <3> I know, that really sounds stupid in retrospect, but... <0> pine. the one and only Biatchs! <3> Well, someone told me that... but apparently they didn't have it properly implemented... it was crashing like crazy and god forbid they did an upgrade... <3> I'd rather set myself on fire than ever use it again <10> XyZzY: pine was my very first email program :) <1> CeruleanD, for 20 years one of the top automation companies in the world used Notes with 0 fail untill their sr. sys admin quit <3> And then there's trying to show users how to use the client, OMG could they have designed a less user-friendly client GUI if they tried to? <9> Ceru: Indeed! <1> CeruleanD, I wont disagree there <3> Isn't that kind of suspect that you need a senior systems admin to keep it stable? <9> Domino is great... FOR ME TO POOP ON! <3> I mean, that you need an expert at it? <3> Shouldn't a well written piece of software be easily installed and stable out of the box? <1> CeruleanD, I knew the guy, he never touched the ****er .. he added and removed accounts that it. <1> that reminds me .. to-do #4 is rebuild the mail server <3> hmmmmm, well, one of my coworkers at Philips did say the same thing, he said a properly setup and built Notes server would last like a tank and that it was the company that Philips had outsourced their servers to that fuq'ing it up, so I believe you entirely. <3> I guess I should be venting my frustration at stupid admins more than anything else, heh <0> it shoud be install, setup. then add/delete users then backup regularly. done. everthing else is make work <1> crazy coworker used FreeBSD + sendmail for the mail server.. it'd be great if I could figure out what the **** he did... I've never seen such a goofy sendmail config (maybe that's why I dont use sendmail often either) <3> rofl <1> XyZzY, yup <3> yeah, I've heard nothing but bad about trying to configure and admin sendmail <1> CeruleanD, i love sendmail dont get me wrong, but this is the exact reason why I dont like sendmail... everyone has their own little quarky way for writing a config <3> My boss gave me the go-ahead to use Linux extensively in our disaster recovery site, so for the mail relays I ripped out sendmail and installed Postfix <3> Why do you love sendmail? Every article I've read comparing it to other mail servers has listed it as the worst in terms of ease of use and security <1> hell for the aliases he just stuck them any old place (and not together, let alone all at the buttom under "user-defined) <3> ouch <1> cyrus is fine, clamav and spam******in are borked <3> What are your thoughts on postfix and qmail? <1> or at least clamav is ... spam******in seems to work ... <9> qmail is DJ Bernstein-ware...and DJ Bernstein is a cockblocker <1> qmail is ok, I can't argue with it for what I believe it should be used for (low volume) postfix is a workhorse.. <3> I went with postfix only because I looked at setting up a simple mail relay with both and the instructions for postfix seemed just a hair easier to follow. <3> Just edit the main.cf, tell it who to accept mail from, and where it's going, and it goes.
