<1> does anyone know why a script would be slow to exit after launching a java app? its taking MINUTES after the app is launched. i am launching it in the bg
<0> because it's java?
<1> it happens in all fo 10 sec. when i do it manually
<2> can someone help me
<0> eL_BeBe: no, because we are not psychic
<2> oh cause im new but dont know lot of english
<2> cause i had ask eariler
<0> no, because you have not asked a question
<2> hey i currently have Linksys Wireless USB Adapter and i have Mandrake linux i want to know how can i install the drivers.
<1> he wants to know how to install the drivers for his modem on mandrake linux
<3> hmm
<2> cause i have Linksys USB adapter
<3> oops
<2> cause i not soo good to linux but we are learning it in the universit

<2> university*
<1> you might find more help in #linuxhelp
<1> wait, you've tried there
<2> yea no one helped i try to look on google :)
<2> but thanks soo much rasputin666
<0> eL_BeBe: well for one any USB modem is likly to be a winmodem and as such might not be well supported. You might also check the linux hardware compatability FAQ to see if it will work. If it is a winmodem there are several pages on winmodems for linux. last resort is google to do a linux + model search for support. If that is not in there you are out of luck for getting it to work.
<2> oh ok thanks everybody :)
<4> can anyone help me with a Ubuntu instalation
<4> ?
<1> sorry man
<5> MegaLondon, ask the question, not if anyone can help..
<4> I have a 80G hdd! I have a c: ntfs with windows xp on it, d: fat32, e: fat 32 and unalocated space of about 10G where I want to install Ubuntu
<4> what partitions do i need exactly for ubuntu?
<4> I mean I need a partitioning scheme for the free 10G
<0> MegaLondon: I'll tell you now, 10gb is not that much space
<5> XyZzY, its enough though. he apparently isn't too familiar with linux to eat up a lot of space right now anyway
<1> 10GB not much? I thought linux was lean and mean
<4> ok so I`ll make it a 15G ...that`s not important..it` a 1 cd instalation
<4> so how about tha partitioning scheme?
<4> *the
<0> rasputin666: well I have 8gb as primary partition and I'm _aleays_ having to clean it up to install things
<4> XyZzY . what linux distribution are you using?
<0> MegaLondon: Debian
<1> multiple OSs on that box? i try to avoid partitions
<0> nope. no multiple partions
<0> er multiple OS
<1> 8GB drive? why such a small partition?
<4> come on..so I have a 15g space ..how do I partition that before installing Ubuntu ?
<0> no two 80 gb drives. first partition on each drive is a mirror of the other and where the OS lives. rest of partition is striped raid for fast /tmp
<1> raid 0...that means you have another drive doing backup
<4> great ..thanks for the help! waste of time
<0> rasputin666: you mean the 1.2Tb raid5? yes
<1> damn, how much porn is that?
<0> MegaLondon: you might look at the HD partioning guide on www.tldp.org
<0> rasputin666: as Carl Seagon might say... "Billions and Billions of files for pr0n"
<0> well... almost
<6> interesting
<1> any specialty?
<6> older 586 cl*** CPUs.. this p166 and this k6-2-300, there's a huge difference between AES (128b) and Blowfish
<6> 1.6M/sec vs 6.2M/sec
<0> Nanuq: not using on-CPU special instruction commands?
<6> newer 686, though, the difference isn't as much
<6> 20.2M/sec vs 31.1M/sec
<6> XyZzY: heh, which special instructions?
<0> Nanuq: well my bro can't use certain scanner software on his k6-2 for some reason.
<6> XyZzY: What's interesting is that the first numbers are from a p166 non-mmx
<0> MMX instructions or something
<0> iirc they wre used to accelerate graphics performance
<6> XyZzY: So if I could overclock that p166 to 800MHz, then we could expect 7.71M/sec
<6> XyZzY: the second set of numbers are from an Athlon Thunderbird 800
<6> XyZzY: So, about three times faster, just in the architecture
<0> that or the benchmark/codecs are intel specific
<6> XyZzY: Oh well it's moot. My uplink is only 800kbps
<6> XyZzY: the switch from blowfish to aes ups the maximum cpu usage by a whopper 2.5%
<6> 2.75% actually
<6> XyZzY: As it stands, 10% of the CPU
<0> yeah but you are wasting CPU for Queake Pwn4g3 :)
<0> why I have any win-hardware
<6> XyZzY: Hrm..
<6> XyZzY: I feel better with AES-128 on there ;)
<0> I would like to see a general telco interface with it's own memory /cpu for dealing with all things phone related. from modem to fax to voice. if you want to use a different codec(say AES) upload a proggie to the interface and let IT deal with it.

<6> XyZzY: btw, the CPU I'm "wasting" is on my NAT box
<6> XyZzY: and it runs quite idle to begin with
<0> Nanuq: Ah. also soed ipsec?
<0> er s/soed/does/
<6> XyZzY: OpenVPN
<0> *sigh* yet another thing I have not got back to
<6> XyZzY: It's really, really nice.
<0> have to test to see if it works in transparent bridge mode
<0> Nanuq: do you run a custom NAT/firewall box or a pre-packaged system?
<1> i'm running a WRT54GL and love it...
<6> XyZzY: I use NetBSD
<7> hey just wondering if someone could school me in making a linux bootable cd?? i have the current install packages for slack and i wanna make it bootable so i can install it and i have no floppy drive
<6> XyZzY: Well wait.. on this network, I use NetBSD
<6> XyZzY: Over at the other side of the VPN, it's a Linksys wireless something
<0> m-23: A) slack sux. B) get knoppix liveCD, burn, enjoy
<6> XyZzY: OpenVPN runs behind that, on a Leenooks box
<6> m-23: Go Debian.
<7> well its slamd4 and i'm just gonna play around with it
<0> wtf is slamd4?
<8> m-23: we're sorry to hear that
<7> 64bit port of slack
<7> well alright thanx for the info
<9> The stupids always think they're just going to "play around" with Slackware.
<6> "You'll shoot your eye out kid."
<1> hey mwilson! finally, someone to kick these a$$ho1es in the teeth!
<9> How did you get off /ignore ?
<1> yaaay! mwilson you're my friend!
<0> brownnosing will not help here. not unless you paypal to the mwilson(b33r) fund
<1> which account would that be?
<9> XyZzY: That certainly won't help you... I don't drink.
<1> well? i'm ready to donate!
<0> mwilson: well it's either b33r, br04ds, or b4ndwidth
<1> mwilson must think i'm joking
<0> mwilson: was sorta so-so
<9> Anyone NOT figure out the "kid subplot" in the first 30 sec of his appearance?
<9> Not to mention that the kid is *older* than five.
<8> haven't seen it yet, but from the preview it seemed the kid was his son with lois
<0> libolt44: *bing*
<9> Seeing that just makes me think of Niven's "Man of Steel, Woman of Kleenex".
<0> was less disappointed with Pirates II. made it clear there is a Pirates III in the works. wonder if Blackbeard gonna get in on that one
<9> I was highly disappointed in Pirates II. There may be a good movie under all that poor editing, but it's very hard to tell.
<0> mwilson: seen cars?
<9> No, no interest. The only Pixar film I've ever seen is Incredibles.
<0> now incredibles was good
<0> saw National Treasure - thought it was a Tomb raider ripoff
<0> "lets make a movie like tomb raider but stick in some US nationalism!"
<0> saw X3 and was _severely_ pissed off with it
<10> Pixar ****s.
<0> hell. any current movies seem to **** nads. have to go back a few years to even find anything to worthy of watchin
<1> well, the movie industryy purposely puts out their duds at this time of year
<1> i forget why, something to do with awards
<11> okay.. maybe someone here will be less retarded than the people in #slackware. I just installed Slackware 10.2, and I can't get any access to my network. ifconfig shows eth0 working fine, route shows I have a network and gateway attached to eth0, and resolv.conf has three DNS servers in it.. and I can't even access anything within my local network for some reason
<0> so they can pat themselves on the back for the crap they did put out
<11> any ideas?
<0> mwilson: so, what was the last movie that was worth watching?
<11> anyone? bueller?
<1> Global WArming: An Inconvenient Truth
<1> or The Devil Wears Prada
<11> grr
<12> hi guys
<13> does anybody made multipath work in FC3?
<14> IceOwl: What does dmesg have to say? How about a traceroute?
<14> And have you tried a real linux distribution instead?
<6> the hell?
<6> if I start openssl, do the AES benchmark, I get results about a third of what I get, if I do the blowfish benchmark first
<6> aes-128 cbc 2154.11k 2364.97k 2418.09k 2430.63k 2427.56k
<6> vs
<6> aes-128 cbc 7396.25k 8121.41k 8338.43k 8390.53k 8350.38k
<6> wonder if that's some sort of bug
<6> Anyone else with Solaris?
<15> i need help about linux
<15> where can i download ISo images of red hat?
<16> You mean Fedora Core, right?
