<0> zedo:~# mkswap /9.1/swapfile
<0> swapon: Skipping file /9.1/swapfile - it appears to have holes.
<0> gah
<0> caulking might help
<0> it worked with different kernels
<0> i've even remade the file with dd just in case
<1> lol
<1> it got holes dude ;)
<2> whitecap: DOes it mean it's a sparse file? I don't think swap will like that.
<0> Tron: huh ? it's just a file i dd'd to the right size then ran mkswap on
<3> yup
<4> hi there
<3> L053r: not yet
<3> L053r: you have a lame nick

<4> ermm ok
<4> anywayz...
<3> :)
<5> also lame is the unnecessary use of a z in place of an s.
<4> im new to linux...and i would liek to install linux on my box...which linux distribution should i go for? Sues or Ubuntu?
<3> L053r: check out distrowatch.org, read about the various distros and decide for yourself.
<4> actually i have loads of ubuntu cds...will it be same as Sues?
<3> L053r: Just don't choose slackware. Slackware ****s and if you come in here complaining about problems with a slackware install, we WILL laugh at you.
<3> No, Ubuntu is not the same as SuSE
<3> note, it is suse, not sues
<4> oh so i shoudl gofor Suse for i only need it for home/personal use
<3> sues is what SCO does to everyone else...
<4> whats SCO?
<6> Heh, not anymore they don't
<3> Actually, Ubuntu is a good choice for beginners
<5> i'm not unhappy with ubuntu myself, and I'm not quite a beginner. :)
<3> L053r: never mind...
<7> bah
<4> hmmm so do i have to learn all kinds of commands liek kshell and squid n all?
<7> ubuntu sounds like nigerian toothpaste.
<3> Revenger: haha
<4> but i got ubunto cd fro free
<8> "Ubuntu freshens breath and whitens teeth brighter!"
<3> L053r: so install it then
<4> hmm ok
<4> but its not the same as suse right Ka-bar?
<9> hi folks
<3> If you don't like it, then you can install something else.
<3> L053r: No, Ubuntu is NOT the same as SuSE. I think I already said that, if you had been paying attention.
<4> is Redhat just another distribution of Linux?
<4> ok ok Ka-bar you dont ned to get all worked up you know
<3> Redhat is a company that makes a linux distro
<3> L053r: I don't like to repeat myself
<8> Ka-bar: what?
<8> hmmm I think that someone's needing to deal with some violence issues....
<8> ;)
<3> cheezlbub: there's no violence here.
<3> yet.
<3> yay
<10> Geezus, Inspiron B130: 14", 1.8GHz, 1GB, 40GB for $434
<10> Remember back when laptops were expensive? Oy.
<3> Falchion: MacBookPro... still expensive
<11> I have a ThinkPad T20...used...gets the job done...
<10> Ka-bar: That has nothing to do with it. I can easily spend $4k on a laptop but I can get a laptop for under $400 now.
<12> can someone help me?
<13> doubtfull.
<14> nope
<10> vladootz: http://mentalhealth.org
<12> does anybody know linux around here, right?
<13> vladootz: Why don't you check out http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html ? Maybe you'll learn how to ask more meaningful questions...
<14> no. we just sell blue carpet
<10> vladootz: We sell carpets here. You're in the wrong channel.
<14> Falchion: GET OUT OF MY HEAD
<10> schitzo: I would have typed it before hand but I removed blue from my line. :P
<12> i have a problem with ubuntu... or with me... can you help me?

<13> vladootz: http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html.
<14> Pan F'N Tera bitches
<13> vladootz: how do you expect anyone to answer that if you don't even bother to explain what is going on? goto that url, read it, read it again, think your problem over, then ask again.
<15> rofl
<16> Undernet went all apocalyptic
<11> yeah...
<17> 666
<18> Clone: it's no damn worse than usual
<17> whyzzyrd: oh, I have been praying in church all day long.. maybe it worked.
<18> Don't know about 666, but my office is just a bit warm
<18> and a bit noisy
<18> My Xeon's screaming something rotten
<3> Falchion: *nod* but is it a *good* laptop?
<3> Heh... They're having a party in Hell, Michigan
<19> place called hell in Norway as well
<19> funnily enough route 666 leads to it
<3> hmmm 30 year mortgage rates at 6.66%
<3> some people are just having too much fun with this
<19> hehe
<18> hmm. /me wonders about how to cool this place down. I bet the monitors don't help matters
<2> Bwahahahahaha. What kind of office fitting out and wiring tender _doesn't_ include the wiring up of the cat5e cabling from socket to patch panel? Ha. Haha. Hahahahahaha. Hahahahahahahahaha.
<3> Tron: or, they did and were planning on charging extra for it...
<20> re
<18> Ka-bar: oooh. <****s air through clenched teeth>, tomorrow you say...
<3> OldMonk...
<18> Ka-bar: <****s air through clenched teeth>, expensive that'll be..
<2> Ka-bar: Oh provision was made all right. Now the contractor is trying to screw us through the roof for it. They're pretending they're surprised because as far as they were concerned, they would provide the wall socket, and the cat5e cables would all be nicely laid inside trunking and above wall tiles etc., it's just that tiny detail of the 188 cables wuold be dangling - unconnected - at both ends :)
<3> whyzzyrd: ehh?
<21> K_F: mytorcycle or "manual" cycle?
<19> Jostein: manual
<18> Tron: that's not actually that uncommon
<18> Tron: You'll find they want to get a specialist data crew in to terminate & test
<19> Jostein: black helmet
<21> K_F: hmmm. not sure. cant recall him doing much bicycling
<19> Jostein: I've only met him once though, so could be my memory playing tricks :)
<21> heh
<21> yeah
<2> whyzzyrd: *shrug* Is it that uncommon? I don't care. ALl I know is that at the moment we'er going to be moving into an office with unwired and untested networking :)
<2> whyzzyrd: See, all I was asked was what the office would _need_ , I wasn't handling that fitting-out side of it. I told 'em what we needed - sockets, cabling, and terminated at a patch panel :)
<19> google removed the spreadsheets page..
<19> no wait, it is there
<3> All your data are belong to google
<18> Tron: You don't want unwired and untested. You also don't want the cheap **** generic cable.
<2> whyzzyrd: And I don't do network cabling - at least - the only network cabling I'm concerned about is the little patch cable I use to connect the patch socket for the phone extension or network hub/switches to the patch socket for the floor socket ;)
<18> Tron: I do network cabling..
<19> anyone gotten an invite though?
<18> Tron: or at least, I'm certified to, and have the kit.
<19> Jostein: http://www.google.com/googlespreadsheets/try_out.html http://www.google.com/googlespreadsheets/tour1.html :)
<21> K_F: I saw that. Havent checked it out yet
<19> hehe
<18> Tron: how much are they trying to roger you lot for?
<19> The Balanced Scoreboard - Measures that drive performance
<19> and The Rise and Fall of management accounting
<19> and one about decision-relevant cost
<18> K_F: they teach you about bull**** bingo yet?
<19> BULL****!!
<19> think it was UF that thought it to me
<19> or JoT
<2> whyzzyrd: I think they were going to charge something insane likee 4 grand over 4 days. For 188 cables. That's grossly expensive.
<21> K_F: to me it was dilbetr.
<21> K_F: or maybe that was buzzword bingo
<19> hmm, maybe it was dilbert
<19> think it was UF
<2> whyzzyrd: The raised flooring for the server room was supposed to have been completed by end of yesterday too. Not one raised flooring item was to be seen when I was there yesterday afternoon. :)
<2> whyzzyrd: I have waiting here one server rack which is to be used for the patch panels, telephone system and network switches/hubs. That has to wait until the raised flooring is in, before re***embly, because it's a big heavy bastard when it's built.
<22> Is there any way you can scan a harddisc for errors?, my /dev/hdb1 is ****ed up, and it keeps giving me the output "end_request: I/0 error, dev 03:41 (hdb), sector 25215261 Ext3-fs error (device ide0(3,65)): ext3_get_inoce_loc: unable to read block - inode=1507329, block=3013658" ??
