<0> last colts win was at baltimore i think <1> *nod* <2> aha gotcha <2> dogbert2: so thats what you meant. :) <3> whee! <1> got the VPN set up now, so I can sync with my exchange server remotely <4> cool <3> I watched the game, even though I couldn't be arsed since neither of my teams were in it. <3> *****^WPeyton finally got a ring. Whee! <0> Steakk: why do you need a vpn for that? <5> If something doesnt offer a DL for win2k3 server, which would my best bet be? win2000 or winxp for hte driver? <6> libolt4 :) <7> so, reasonable game of football
<6> Hmm .. what is football? <8> whew... i've been ***-bombing this living room... think i better change my diet or something <9> uhm. <9> there was a dozen god damn fumbles in that game <9> I'm upset :( <9> I was robbed of a game of champions <9> hehe <6> fumbles? Sounds like fun .. <3> yeah, should've been the Pats and the Saints... <7> except apparently they ****ed this season <6> Saints fumble quite often .. so I've been told .. <10> Ok, I just did something really stupid. I don't mind if you laugh, but some help would be nice after the laughing dies down <3> BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA <10> I corrupted the /etc/p***wd file by accidentally deleting the first letter of the file <3> So... what did you do? <11> LordLucle: I'm going to just go ahead and say format and reinstall <10> So root is now oot <3> OOT! <3> change it to a W and then you can say WOOT! <10> reality1: that sounds awfully like a windows solution <11> LordLucle: Ok. Use a rescue CD. Mount the partition, change it back <5> weee, now my thermometer outside reads -27F (-33C) outside <10> reality1: yeah, I was wondering if there was anything short of that <5> LordLucle, what distro? <10> redhat fedora <11> LordLucle: You can try to sudo vi /etc/p***wrd <11> p***wd <3> stoopid bot <5> grab the FC CD, and boot into rescue mode...and do what reality1 said...just mount that partition, and edit it back <10> I still know the root p***word, but "su oot" doesnt work either - I guess it doesnt match the /etc/shadow file <5> actually, could he boot into singleuser mode with a ****ed up p***wd? <5> via grub or smth <11> Teakk: Don't think so <12> nope <12> gotta chroot into the environment <5> dont ahve to chroot into it, if you use a rescue disc <3> um, no. booting in rescue mode and mounting / read/write should do it. <5> just mount it, and vi /mnt/drive/etc/p***wd <12> ok <10> But all stuff that needs physical access. Bah, looks like I got a drive ahead of me <5> mount -t ext3 /dev/hda1 /mnt/tmp && vi /mnt/tmp/etc/p***wd <5> LordLucle, you dont have physical access tot he machine? <10> Well, not at the moment, but its no trouble to get <10> inconvenient is all <5> ah <12> http://www.fedorafaq.org/basics/ <13> Don't you love these crackers who try to get you to walk them through getting access to things like /etc/p***wd and /etc/shadow? <12> # Using the instructions in the runlevel question (under the "While You Are Booting the Computer" section), boot into runlevel 1. <12> # Set the new root p***word with by typing: <12> p***wd <14> just set init=/bin/sh in your kernel boot command <14> then set your new p***word <3> mwilson: hmmm... <14> simple. no stupid mounting this or that <5> safemode, thats too easy though :P <5> Connected to laptop.DWS-Serv.local. <5> err, ****in clipboard <10> I dont spose theres a way to use su to login as UID 0 rather than username root? That would be too much to hope :(
<14> what part of init=/bin/sh dont you understand? <13> LordLucle: I don't suppose there's a way you'd tell us who the actual owner of the box is so we can let him know? <5> mwilson, he <5> heh* <10> mwilson: Being able to su into UID 0 would do me no good if I didn't know the root p***wd <5> and actually, changing root to oot in p***wd wouldnt **** the system over...just use sudo then...***uming, you set your machine up properly to allow sudo <3> LordLucle: no, but us telling you how to edit the p***word file so you can *remove* the root p***word would be very useful to you. <3> LordLucle: So. . . Who *does* own that box? <5> Havent heard this in a few years <3> Teakk: and that's a good thing. <3> Bruce Springsteen rots your ears. <10> sudo gives me sudo: no p***wd entry for root! <3> yeah, that would be right. <10> It must lookup the root account by username rather than SUID :/ <13> http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814150182 <13> Ack <3> mwilson: whoa... two DVI outputs... <15> LordLucle: You're not too bright are you? <10> syn-ack: Not feeling too bright at the moment, no <15> mwilson: I would kill to have a card like that in my desktop <15> LordLucle: man sudoers <5> anyone here use outlook/oe with their gmail? (or any pop client for that matter) <10> Yeah, I found that out when I started looking after this happened <10> Horse, stable door and all that <15> Teakk: I do, whats up? <15> Teakk: Outlook 2k3 for that matter... <13> syn-ack: It's just a 7600. <5> syn-ack, I set up my gmail a LONG time ago for allowing pop-access, but just never utilized it (good, Outlook 2003 here as well) ... anyways, i just set it up in oulook now, and clicked S/R, and it is saying that its only receiving 757 e-mails, and not the 16000 that i have...any ideas why? <5> the 757 are not all new (i only have about 20 unread emails from today) <15> mwilson: Its still better than whats in my desktop. I have one of those cheapo intel intergrateds in mine <13> I'm getting that card to replace the 7300. <15> Teakk: might be an outlook limitation, iirc there was something to that affect as a bug in it or something... <5> syn-ack, but, iirc, Evolution did the same thing ... I'll try from my linux box to double check, but i think that is how it was <15> Teakk: Might be something to do with google then... I dont know <5> thats what I thought...limiting the bandwith type thingie <5> hah, just clicked S/R again, and now it is grabbing 780 more <15> Teakk: Good do that till you get them all I reckon <5> syn-ack, I'm just seeing if I like gmail with outlook or not ... as many mailing lists as i subscribe to, and not having a tree-view type conversation pane, is going to make it difficult to migrate to <15> I dont know, Ived used outlook for years and I dont have any issues with it. :p <15> brb <14> i've used windows for years and i've never had any problem with people 0wning my box.. but hundreds of thousands of others have ... thus it ****s. outlook is the same way. It's a poorly designed program and the evidence of such is in the absurdity of it's exploits. At least until recently (since nothing new is anything more than a malicious user run program) most of it was execution of code it shouldn't be executing...and very insecure defaults. etc <14> etc. blah blah. <16> heh <5> syn-ack, a few e-mail clients ih ave used allow for converation matching like gmail does, and puts it into a collapsable tree...does outlook offer something like that? <16> even with all of the patches, I still run across emails that show up in Outlook XP that appear to have opened themselves over imap. (message preview displayed in the index pane, try marking a read message unread to see what I mean) <13> mutt + offlineimap <17> hi, i have a file config.inc.php that's set in site's document root folder httpdocs and the PHP scripts need to have access to it and it can be seen through the browser, now how can i make this file to remain with permissions to be accessed by the php scripts but to not be seen though the browser anymore ? <18> hi all <15> OldMonk. <18> syn-ack <15> How goes? <18> still alive, can't complain :) <18> siglite <5> yeah, outlook w/gmail and 15 different amiling list subscriptions != good idea <5> it would be nearly impossible to organize them as well as gmail does <19> *sigh* <20> morning <18> K_F <18> later <20> and I'm out.. <21> and I'm in. <22> :) <21> libolt4: you forgot one I I got redundant psus ;)
