<0> Of course I always fire 'em up in Audition to see if they're just converted MP3s
<1> could just get the album on a cd. that's a solution :)
<0> DaveHowe: Sure, if you're rolling in the dough.
<2> there's nothing good
<2> it's all cl***ical music
<1> Nanuq: I tend to buy music I listen to - I am selective enough that there isn't much to buy
<0> I like my idea, though. I should actually implement it.
<0> Download an album. Send the artist $5 cash.
<1> Tamahome: you seen/listened to AniMusic? its awesome :)
<2> Dave: can't say I have, no
<3> I think $5 per album is probably more than the record company gives 'em
<0> atompngn: Exactly.
<1> Tamahome: well worth looking out for. there is an avi doing the rounds, but it doesn't do the full dvd justice
<3> So you just cut a check to the artist, and mail it to 'em?
<0> atompngn: I like that idea.

<0> atompngn: Frankly, the middlemen haven't added any value.
<3> The RIAA hasn't come knocking yet?
<0> atompngn: Especially if I download it, and _I_ seek it out.
<0> There goes distribution and advertising.
<0> atompngn: Nono, I'm saying it's a good idea. I haven't done it. I can't afford to.
<0> atompngn: Besides, what would most of these artists do with a picture of Sir Wilfred Laurier?
<3> Nanuq: See, I understood you wrote them a check for $5. Which prompts the corporation backing them to come and say "We want our $12"
<0> atompngn: This is why I said "$5 cash"
<3> Nanuq: It would get "lost" in the mail
<0> Eh, maybe not.
<4> Hello Peples.
<4> Well.
<5> English would be nice.
<4> Ok.
<4> Lion-O:
<5> I guess you should learn some IRC basics as well.
<4> Aff.
<5> Dinni: whats the use of directing me with an empty line?
<5> Dinni: are you a little light headed or do you have nothing up there or something ?
<4> I would likes to convite some peoples to be supporters of my channels. ( lol )
<4> channel **
<6> aww.
<6> you should have let it tell us what channels they wanted "supported" so we could complain to cservice ;)
<6> grah.
<5> RelDrgn: well, I considered that but considering how those complaints get ignored by the staff I figured this to be the best solution.
<6> blah.
<5> it wasn't me!
<6> this omsa thing has no documentation that I can find. I managed to get snmpd to talk to its snmp service once, but now its just not responding, and I don't know why.
<7> hi guys, question: Is there a way to order a program to start on a specific workspace ?
<5> what do you mean with "workspace" ?
<7> virtual workspace
<5> ...
<8> what desktop manager?
<5> Virtual console, graphical virtual desktop? WHAT ?
<7> XFCE
<5> init7: very unlikely.
<7> .. graphical virtual desktop, I'd have said console if I meant it ;)
<5> init7: I doubt it.
<8> I've not seen it as an option before...
<5> as if "workspace" without even telling us what desktop/window manager is meaning anything.
<7> just cause it would be cosy to start banshee in fullscreen on workspace 2 on startup so i dont have to click it away (got multimedia keys to control it)
<7> ok thank you so far
<7> I check if it can be started minimized
<5> init7: anyway, that is very specific to the environment and with regards to xfce4 I don't think this is possible. Newly opened programs will always appear on the active desktop.
<7> is there a console command to switch the workspace?
<7> (the graphical one :) )
<8> init7: try starting banshee from a virtual terminal with the --help flag. You'll see there is an option called "--screen" that should match what you are looking for
<5> rtfm comes to mind.
<7> ok i check
<7> i can --hide it at least
<8> that's a start for what you're looking for then
<8> as Lion-0 said - it really boils down to the specific environment and how it can handle that kind of thing
<7> okay, sorry for being unsensitive ;)
<7> does anyone of you know whether the program-specific autostart or the xfce-initiated autostart works faster? I ask because I once read something about the latter being faster if breaks are inserted
<9> Is linux any more secure than windows xp?
<8> oh dear
<5> disproportio: depends on the administrator.
<7> *g*
<9> lol

<8> yup... pretty much
<9> i mean other things being equal
<5> disproportio: if you're consider to troll in here I suggest you find yourself another place for that.
<10> disproportio: a **** admin can make any system insecure
<9> but maybe there is no administrator that is good at both OS
<5> s/consider/considering/
<10> disproportio: a **** coder, the same
<5> Why would XP be insecure? Why would Linux be secure? What would be the usage? Why compare a /desktop/ based OS with a /server/ based OS ? Just a few pointers.
<11> Lion-O: boils down to default configuration
<5> Strider: and the admin. yups.
<10> whoever uses the default configs cant be called an admin :P
<8> Lion-0 has a point on the usage though - desktop vs server - not really a point of comparison
<5> Jostein: aye. more like a moron :P
<9> well yeah.. but why would people want people to use Linux for their desktop anyway. i dont see the rationale
<8> oh dear oh dear
<5> disproportio: you're >< close to be considered a troll by me.
<12> disproportio: I weep for you.
<10> I dont see the rationale behind wanting anyone else to use a particuler OS. I use what works for me
<10> Lion-O: you cut him too much slack :P
<9> ok ok i stop now. seems i stirred the hornets' nest
<9> :D
<12> I switched to linux many moons ago because I wanted to use Tinyfugue. All it takes is one program that you REALLY want that isn't on a different OS. heh
<5> Jostein: perhaps. I'm busy with a few other, more important, issues.
<10> hehe
<7> thanks guys, now testing my autostart ;D
<13> tavi-san: How goes? :)
<10> tavi-san hates everything, and everyone hates tavi-san
<14> Jostein: I thought that was sarah
<10> well. I sisn't say it didn't apply to her as well :P
<15> Sorry where are the names of all the "group" and "users" stored ?
<15> /etc/p***wd ?
<8> groups: /etc/groups users:/etc/p***wd
<8> usually
<15> /etc/groups !!!
<15> THANKS ! 'night !
<15> albino3D, /etc/group ....no "s" ... Thanks again ;-)
<8> ah well, close enough - time for another coffee
<0> Hmm..
<16> can anyone help, I have been attempting to install ubuntu on my dell xps m140 (usb drive) and during the install the screen goes black with two or three brown blocks
<17> networkad: you checked the hardware compatibility list to make sure it will work with that box?
<16> yes
<10> guess why :P
<0> Jostein: You're speaking in some weird language that doesn't include words that involve marriage?
<10> hah
<0> Jostein: Or relationships at all! It's the loner's language.
<0> Jostein: This culture didn't last. They learn the hard way that procreation involves other people.. at least for humans.
<10> he evidently gut some chicks from some other party to come partying with him instead
<0> Most animals, in fact.
<0> Lots of plants too.
<10> lol
<0> But fungi is okay!
<0> Jostein: He's gutting chicks? Eww.
<10> oh. right
<10> s/gut/got/
<10> just to make _sure_ nobody thinks anything else :P
<0> Jostein: I'm high on a false sense of self-esteem. It'll go away soon.
<10> lol
<0> Well I like that beer idea.
<10> Ill make both us happy and get both :P
<10> oooh. this was a expensive roquefort, and I -can- taste that :P
<10> no way
<10> Im not ruining this exquisite taste with some cheap breath mints
<8> hehe
<8> wash down with beer then
