<DaveHowe> I quite like that mine can do radio
<D-side> wow reviews on this are ****.
<DaveHowe> gives me a reason to have the hands-free set in use
<Lion-O> Dave!
<Lion-O> DaveHowe: thanks again for your tip the other day about ifranview. Its a rock solid program indeed.
<DaveHowe> Lion-O: yeah. part of my standard toolkit these days
<TenBaseT> can anyone explain why firefox wont render things like &hearts; correctly?
<Lion-O> DaveHowe: I can imagine. Its not good to setup with a beer and no patience but once you did.. wow.
<whyzzyrd> TenBaseT: is &hearts in the HTML Spec?
<TenBaseT> try this into a text file: <html><head></head>&hearts;</html>
<Liandrin> TenBaseT, um, you're missing the <body></body>
<DaveHowe> TenBaseT: no <body> ?
<TenBaseT> sorry, my original example has a body tag
<TenBaseT> but thats besides the point
<TenBaseT> html 4.0 apparently
<TenBaseT> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_XML_and_HTML_character_entity_references
<whyzzyrd> TenBaseT: so it is.
<TenBaseT> it renders okay in safari but not in firefox
<whyzzyrd> TenBaseT: got a url, to save me arsing about with a text file?
<TenBaseT> sure, that one I just posted from wiki
<TenBaseT> search for hearts
<TenBaseT> and you'll see a bolded pipe char in firefox
<TenBaseT> instead of a heart
<DaveHowe> is there a heart in that font?
<smsie> TenBaseT: works fine here
<TenBaseT> smsie: in firefox?
<smsie> TenBaseT: yep
<whyzzyrd> TenBaseT: http://www.intuitive.com/coolweb/entities.html lists it under "unsupported ISO character Entities"
<Liandrin> it works fine for me in Firefox
<Liandrin> do you perhaps have a font issue, TenBaseT?
<TenBaseT> perhaps
<smsie> try a different default font
<DaveHowe> renders fine here too
<whyzzyrd> TenBaseT: It works fine here in my 1.5.0.4
<wlfshmn> Look fine here in FF
<wlfshmn> likewise in IE6
<whyzzyrd> TenBaseT: hmm. looks like the problem's at your end, right enough.
<TenBaseT> yeah, I knew something odd was going on
<rhowe> TenBaseT: Welcome to the wonderful world of fonts, character sets, character encodings and Unicode planes
<whyzzyrd> rhowe: Unicode Planes? Are they like Unicode Busses? Where you wait for half an hour, and 3 come along at once?
<DaveHowe> TenBaseT has a unicode plane that was never meant to fly....
<iplai> does any know hot bittorrent works? i've installed it (bittorrent-4.4.0-1.fc5.noarch.rpm) but i dont know how tu run it
<rhowe> whyzzyrd: Yeah, and you still end up getting the wrong one
<smsie> whyzzyrd: no, they're like chisels...but sharper
<D-side> TenBaseT: that is the single greatest piece of html i've ever seen.
<whyzzyrd> smsie: last time I needed a wide-ish chisel, I found I didn't have one. So I asked the boy across the street if he had one. He gave me this wide chisel that was as blunt as a pigs arse, and about as straight.
<whyzzyrd> smsie: so, out I got my oilstone, and made it straight and sharp. I used it. I re-sharpened it, and returned it.
<DaveHowe> so he cut himself on it and sued you?
<whyzzyrd> smsie: His wife pipes up, "I hope you didn't fix that, he'll take his bloody arm off with it.."
<smsie> nah, you borrowed it a week later and it was worse?
<smsie> haha
<whyzzyrd> smsie: Then I find him scraping paint off his gate with it.
<cappicard> LOL...
<whyzzyrd> smsie: and rapidly getting as fux0red as it was when he gave me it..
<wlfshmn> whyzzyrd: I find it interesting that the person you refere to as a "boy", has a wife ;)
<whyzzyrd> wlfshmn: Expression it is.
<smsie> whyzzie is about 900 years old
<smsie> *everyone* is a boy
<wlfshmn> smsie: one of those people that just -refuse- to die ;)
<iplai> does anyone know how bittorrent works? i've installed it (bittorrent-4.4.0-1.fc5.noarch.rpm) but i dont know how to run it
<whyzzyrd> smsie: You'll find that in scotland people often refer to blokes they know as "that boy up the street".
<smsie> whyzzyrd: no excuse
<cappicard> D-side: I found a free way of getting ringtones. I just take a picture, record and attach a sound to it. Act like I'm trying to send it. Immediately hit cancel. Goto my outbox, examine the message and then save the sound. Then I can use that sound as my ringtone.
<whyzzyrd> iplai: think we didn't hear you the first time? Think the fscking readme can't help you?
<whyzzyrd> anyway, I need to get off to bed. Hopefully we'll have largely finished packing by tomorrow night.
<DaveHowe> night
<iplai> whyzzyrd, what readme? it was just a .rpm !
<whyzzyrd> rpm's not provide man pages, and documentation?
<whyzzyrd> huh, uuhuh, you know, you're like a, uuh, bunghole, or something..
<D-side> eh. beavis and butthead were mildly amusing.
<D-side> this guy just makes me despair.
<dogbert2> bunghole...heh heh
<DaveHowe> http://rpmseek.com/rpm/bittorrent-4.4.0-1.fc5.noarch.html?hl=com&cs=BitTorrent:PN:0:0:1:0:2855475&ShowFileList=1
<dogbert2> bungholio
<whyzzyrd> "I am the great cornholio".
<dogbert2> "
<dogbert2> "Are you THREATENING me?"
<whyzzyrd> "I must cook a feast, fit for the great cornholio".
<dogbert2> "I need TP for my bunghole"
<whyzzyrd> "I guess I am".
<whyzzyrd> Vaya Con Cornholio.
<whyzzyrd> right. bed
<smsie> aha!
<smsie> there's the bastard thing!
<whyzzyrd> smsie: find a mirror?
<smsie> close :)
<D-side> and buildworld continues to chug along.
<fredk_> hmm, this dude on flightline (discovery) seems to have flown a LOT of aircrafts
<D-side> this is the first instance i can think of where having a dual core machine has made a huge difference.
<fredk_> D-side, with kernel builds?
<D-side> fredk_: in this instance, cvsup'ing a vmware freebsd install.
<fredk_> ah yeah, what kinda box?
<D-side> fredk_: amd64 3800+ X2
<fredk_> ah cool
<fredk_> fast?
<D-side> gig of ram. vm only had 384, but hey. works great.
<D-side> fast enough i suppose.
<fredk_> mmm, I should be getting my 2 x Dual Core xeon soon (dempsey(
<D-side> its on a windows box, and i've been compiling for over an hour, with no problems on the desktop side.
<fredk_> )
<fredk_> nice
<D-side> i'm sure not complaining for a change. :)
<fredk_> hehehe
<cappicard> oh hell. I just send myself a PIX message from vzw.com and save myself the trouble
<cappicard> heya db2
<cappicard> how goes it?
<dogbert2> ayup...that's me...fine...relaxing
<cappicard> cool. got a free cell phone for helpng with a computer :)
<dogbert2> ok...sounds reasonable :)
<cappicard> yep
<cappicard> and it's a VZW phone so I can get it activated tomorrow. :)
<dogbert2> cool...
<reality> cappicard: What phone?
<cappicard> samsung A670
<reality> Heh, isn't that phone free anyway when you get a plan with them?
<D-side> could be.
<D-side> thts a damn good point. heh
<cappicard> well, this was my brother-in-law's mother's old phone.
<cappicard> she got a razr and I can have this phone.
<reality> The a850 and a630 are both free
<cappicard> (I normally don't qualify for a new phone until October, but I can switch phones if I buy it or get it from someone else)
<reality> Verizon is too rich for my blood
<cappicard> it doesn't cost me anything to get it reprogrammed.
<D-side> cappicard: ah, makes sense
<cappicard> yep. there's ways around crap in the wireless world.
<cappicard> I used to work for western wireless ;)
<D-side> i have to wait til october also.
<Becky> time for me to get some sleep folks goodnight everyone...
<reality> I qualify for basically any phone with Tmobile for either free or greatly discounted
<reality> With contract renewal of course
<cappicard> i will have 6months left in my 2year contract in october
<reality> I think I would have liked the Motorola Q but a) it's CDMA only b) no touch screen/stylus c) no wifi
<cappicard> I'm cdma here in KC with VZW.
<cappicard> cingular and sprint here are gsm, but I avoid sprint like the plague
<reality> Sprint is CDMA
<cappicard> well PCS anyway
<cappicard> sprint's service in KC is crap
<reality> Verizon and Sprint are the CDMA folks...everybody else (including Nextel) is gsm
<cappicard> and they're HQ'd in overland park!
<reality> I had sprint for a year. They pissed me off so bad and I pissed them off so badly that they actually dropped me as a customer.
<reality> You know it's bad when a cell phone company says, "We don't want your money. Go elsewhere."
<cappicard> their customer service ****s donkey nuts
<cappicard> my mom had them and hated them
<reality> I'm happy with Tmobile
<D-side> yeah. sprint's just incompetent.
<D-side> vz "mostly works", so i stick with them
