<0> nastyboy eh.
<1> smsie: they both kicka rse though..
<1> hmm. hard question..
<2> wlfshmn: yeah, but majorly differently
<3> TRiGGER2k: rtfm comes to mind
<0> only that you are not 16
<0> :-p
<4> you don't make another user with root priv... check out man sudo
<5> Lion-O: very helpfull that is
<3> TRiGGER2k: indeed it is.
<1> smsie: I guess I would pick buffy, but it's a much harder choise than the xena one
<2> TRiGGER2k: because you're a kiddie and you're likely to **** yourself over with the knowledge: Make another user with UID 0. I hope you **** yourself over quickly. Goodbye
<3> smsie: errr
<0> Gabrielle from Desperate Housewives

<2> wlfshmn: yeah. Two *very* different characters though...even if they do both kick serious ***
<1> cheeksy: Havn't watched that show, so couldn't say
<6> boy does xorg 7.0 look like its going to be a pain in my ***.
<3> D-side: about the same here
<1> smsie: the buffy character was bloody bipolar though
<2> wlfshmn: so was the willow...
<0> argh.
<6> please tell me these two arent arguing on which superwoman would kick the others ***
<1> smsie: from tough-as-nail to weepy.. I found willow to be more stabel (oddly enough)
<2> wlfshmn: I kinda fell in love with klutzy genteel willow from the first 3 seasons. By which point she could do very little wrogn in my eyes :)
<1> D-side: no, we aren't ;)
<6> wlfshmn: you're lying to me aren't you? :)
<1> D-side: no. we are discussing which female superhero we prefere as a partner form a set of two ;)
<7> can you even have conflicting uids?
<2> wlfshmn: although the fight with giles is just SO cool...in oh so many ways.
<3> robbelhoff: what is there to conflict?
<1> D-side: so I wasn't lying, I'm just not sure you prefere my answer ;)
<7> say, two users with the same uid
<2> robbelhoff: there is only one of each UID. A UID han have multiple names though
<6> wlfshmn: I'm not sure either.
<8> how do you reset the scsi bus to relize there is a new device in the array?
<2> robbelhoff: a user *is* a UID. That user can have several names however
<3> robbelhoff: there is no conflict. Its bad practice but thats it.
<1> smsie: I rather miss the buffy series, strangely enough
<7> ah, i see
<9> Angel was a better series
<6> everyone needs to see Superman Returns.
<1> smsie: plus, there really aren't a lot of females-who-kick-*** series around anymore AFAICT
<9> buffy was for teenagers
<1> FredPitcher: both were for teenagers
<9> wlfshmn: a better one than buffy was. err the one with the girl like Faith
<2> wlfshmn: hmm, I think it was time actually. They ended it at almost exactly the right stage (if anything they did one season too many, although that's really hard to say). THey could easily have had more Angel though...that wasn't over by any means
<9> Dark Angel
<6> Dark Angel was a crap show.
<9> wlfshmn: nah, "Angel" was for 20+
<6> i dont care how hot jessica alba is, that show was garbage.
<9> Dark Angel was not as annoying as buff
<9> rubbish storylines. But no annoying characters
<2> BUffy was genius
<9> smsie: yeah right
<2> annoyingt characters and all
<2> including the three dweebs
<1> FredPitcher: They never intended to make oscar material ;)
<2> wlfshmn: they won an emmy though :)
<9> it's important that ap rogram isn't annoying. Buffy was.
<9> unless you're a teenager
<1> smsie: I agree that it was time, the last two seasons were partially painfull to watch, but I miss the universe
<9> that's why a lot of 20+ people watched Angel
<1> FredPitcher: I watched both
<2> as did I
<2> I still think they could have continued Angel for a while
<1> FredPitcher: and we are both well into the 20+ range ;)
<9> hehehe
<2> oh look, it's back
<2> what do you want this time?
<9> dunno how buffy didn't annoy you wlf
<1> smsie: there was talk of lots of spinoffs, but they had trouble getting their actors to commit to anything more
<5> So much for getting some ***istance
<9> wlf: if you ever had a younger sister it'd annoy you a lot more.
<9> or if you have one
<1> FredPitcher: nope, just a younger brother

<3> TRiGGER2k: its trivial knowledge. If you don't even know how to manage users and groups you have no business on such an environment. Simple.
<1> FredPitcher: and he is well into the 20+ as well.
<9> wlfshmn: maybe that's why you could stand buffy!
<2> TRiGGER2k: I already told you the answer
<5> Lion-O: belive it or not.. i'm using a box for hosting... and i'm running plesk.. so the advanced stuff i'm not too aware of.
<5> that's why I *THOUGHT* i could ask in here
<3> TRiGGER2k: then you shouldn't be messing with this stuff. RTFM, get lost.
<2> TRiGGER2k: why on *earth* do you want multiple root accouts?
<2> it's *always* a bad idea
<3> smsie: he doesn't. He wants to add a user to a group.
<5> I don't want multiple root accounts
<2> oh, is that all?
<3> something even crap software like plesk can handle.
<2> adduser <username> <group>
<2> enjoy
<2> bye
<5> I just want to add 1 user to that root account so i can disable ssh and telnet logins by user root
<2> so you DIDN'T want to add a user to a group
<2> you want to give a user sudo right
<3> TRiGGER2k: you don't add a user to an account.
<5> not sudo...
<2> install sudo and "man sudo; man sudoers"
<0> crap
<8> how the heck do you reset a scsi bus
<6> New0rder: reboot.
<8> D-side, What's the point of hot-swappable hardware? :)
<6> New0rder: provided the hotswap hardware works...
<10> Lion-O ok :)
<6> if its not detecting a change on the bus, well thats bad.
<3> New0rder: it really depends on your hardware. Some software is capable of doing a reset afaik.
<8> D-side Well, I was able to pull a disk outa the array. linux saw this and it worked. raid still up... I put the drive back, and I remeber from another machien a while back I had to issue a command to tell the kernel to look for the device.
<8> And for the life of me, I can't remember/google for this command.
<6> there was a script i used to use years ago.
<6> rescan-scsi-bus or something.
<6> apparently its in the scsitools package for debian.
<3> iirc even cdrecord had an option like this
<6> New0rder: http://www.linux1394.org/scripts/rescan-scsi-bus.sh
<8> maybe it's just redhat "****ing"
<6> merry christmas.
<6> next time google your goddamn self.
<6> now i'm all pissed off for helping you. thanks a lot.
<6> thats one of the silliest comments i've ever made.
<6> shoudlnt a 2.6 kernel's hotplug take care of that though? now that i think about it, it was only necessary in 2.4 kernels.
<3> D-side: hmm, no idea. But triggered on what? Afaik a scsi bus isn't rescanned all that often.
<6> i dont have any scsi stuff, just emulated. like USB or firewire drives.
<6> i really just don't know.
<8> D-side, hmm I had that script. it crashed something. ended up rebooting.
<6> again, thats a problem
<11> how i can add my plugins in nagios
<11> &
<11> ?
<6> drugs are bad mmkay
<12> :P
<0> i dont do drugs
<12> s/bear/bears
<3> here we go. dvd's back to rental store and now I can finally await dinner 8)
<3> hoi cheeksy
<0> Simba!
<0> i lag i lag i lag
<13> and you drool a lot too.
<0> damn!
<14> Meh
<3> muh
<15> PW!
<14> Too hot to be healthy
<14> Nanuq: Ey
<6> PolarWolf: have you got air conditioning?
<14> D-side: No
<16> can't for the life of me figure out *where* it's being blocked
