<0> Hrmz, hungry <1> K_F: financial committee == wife <2> siglite: nice. bbkf gonna be jealous? <0> Purrty SIG <3> siglite: ooh <3> siglite: wasn't at all following :) <0> *snrf* <0> **** <4> You guys know a tool that can effectively index a *large* number of files for me (only names, not contents) <0> fredk: It's called "a filesystem" <4> lol <0> fredk: seriously though, the filesystem is already an indez <0> err, index
<4> well, yes, but I dont know where to look for stuff <0> inodes <4> well, say I only want a file with a specific filename <4> I can't effectively search 100 million entries <5> hi; is there a way to know which program is connected to port 80? I have tried with netstat or so; but I don't seem to find it, port is in use but I have no idea by what program <4> fuser <4> man fuser <6> wowza, that's a huge ****in' molecule <6> C76H52O46 <0> Wh***at, a buckyball? <0> Hmm, no, that's pure CxHy <0> Or actually, pure C <0> My favourite is C6H6 <0> Hmm <6> PolarWolf: tannic acid <0> Nanuq: Hm <0> There's a leader for an iceskating match on TV, and they're showing bits of someone shooting a starter pistol <6> PolarWolf: trying to figure out which wine variety I want.. at the DIY wine place <0> Well...pistol. It's more like a cannon. <0> It looks like at least a .44 <6> PolarWolf: I want something extremely tannic <6> PolarWolf: that makes ya pucker up <0> Nanuq: wine makes me puke regardless <7> and now to backup. <6> PolarWolf: feh <7> hmm, wine has its uses ;) <0> 8am at the office tomorrow. Feck. <7> PolarWolf: welterusten! <7> PolarWolf: wha? :/ <0> Lion-O: $work <7> PolarWolf: on saturday? yech :/ <0> Yeah <0> I don't mind the saturday, I mind the time <0> I **** at getting up early <7> hehehe <7> that sounds just way too familiar. <7> m000 <7> sweet backups :) <7> dogbert2: 'sup? <8> that much goat pr0n on the ipaq huh? <9> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=15bwhVxw-Bg (laugh your *** off) <4> Lion-O, suggestion for how I make a huge number of directories searchable? <7> libolt: the only place where I can really keep it safe from strangers! ;-) <9> libolt, go look at the video clip...bwhahahaha <7> fredk: huh? 'man find' ? ;) <4> Lion-O, on 100 million files? :P <7> fredk: sure. Give it some time ;) hmm, see your point. Then a locate database might be an option <4> the locate db is over 2 gigabytes <4> takes forever <7> fredk: then nfi, sorry <4> :) I could do it in mysql *coughs* <7> well, nfi apart from <buzz> a Java powered solution! </buzz> <7> OR AJAX! :) <4> well, plaintext is simply stupid <9> that cat is going totally crazy
<7> only problem; it doesn't seem to pull anything 8) <4> Ahh <4> not good <9> Lion-O, not even your 8" penis? :) <4> I thik what I for sure should do, is, index directory names and files separately <3> buona notte! good night! guten nacht! Bonne nuit! god natt! et cetera.... <10> i want to ask a simple question: is RSA 2048 vulnerable <7> fredk: I love my job. $boss has had a lot of negative experiences with sys admins and the current status is bad, real bad.. No one knows if backups are made, no one knows how the boxes operate, no one actually dares touching stuff (to a certain extend) due to the possible risk. Which also implies total freedom for me to setup stuff in a more reliable way. <4> Indeed <9> arpf...yeah, but ONLY if you have a really LONG time to crack 2048 bit encryption <7> arpf: A simple answer: WTF does that got to do with Linux? Learn how to ****ing google your ****. <4> rdiff-backup works great =) <10> thankyou Lion-O <7> fredk: for example.. We're talking windows shares here.. The whole network (from a windows point of view) is also rather simple. No disrespect here; simple doesn't mean bad. It works, which is what eventually matters most. <10> but i think that anything descussed in this forum is related to linux <7> arpf: well, you're wrong. <10> hope so <4> indeed <10> any way you have plenty of work to do <10> bye <7> fredk: I just think its just uberfunny that my pre-decessor (?) actually had to ask questions on IRC :P a different #linux channel (I think on some dutch network) :) <4> haha <4> we all do though <7> fredk: not to this extend ;) <4> indeed <4> hehe <4> I think the biggest challenge for me is making things consistent and predictable <7> fredk: poor $boss was actually looking a little puzzled when I had a small Konsole window open in which this place was running (setup connectivity from work to my box and vica versa). <7> but then again, I allow myself to leave an irc window open on friday 8) <7> fredk: *nod* <7> I just LOVE being able to (to a certain extend) work my way up from nothing. <4> I love making things standardized and predictable that way <7> fredk: *exactly* <4> with 150 boxes to manage, I have to :) <7> well, and knowing myself I'll probably be logged onto some $company server tomorrow evening but oh well :) <7> fredk: hehe :) About 6 for me. Unfortunatly a mixture of Debian (most of them thank god) and Gentoo (2). <4> oh god <4> Gentoo :P <7> fredk: exactly. <7> totally unmaintainable so it seems. Even an older version. I'll have to come up with a very drastic and well layed out plan to fix that issue. <4> I used to run freebsd, b ut I couldnt keep 150 freebsd updated and secure really <7> it just so happens to be a database server <cough> <4> database servers are easy though <7> guess my pre-decessor or whatever you call it never knew about apt-src :P <4> not so much configuration <7> fredk: indeed <7> fredk: and I learned today that there are likely to be some spare boxes in the data centre. Which means, with a little luck, that I /might/ be able to setup a backup box. Sync databases, quickly switch boxes, move the original back to debian, etc, etc. <11> what ****er decided to quit putting the module names in the configuration help pages? <4> Lion-O, ah nice <7> RelDrgn: thats just overhead. You know how people feel about documentation.. Seriously: IMVHO its getting worse and worse, the way its heading now isn't a good one IMNSHO. <7> AnimEigo needs to expand their rainsound some more. Its cool :) <4> they are *nice* <7> this pwns <12> HI, i have redhat 7.2 someone know how i can update my kernel 2.4.33 to 2.6.19 and i dont have yum someone know to install yum in redhat ? <3> get a ****ing RECENT VERSION OF THE DISTRO <3> and that upgrade would probably break on so many levels its not even fun to think of <3> oh, right... canadian, I'm talking to a brick wall then <13> geezus.... rh 7.2? That's old as crap.. From like 2000 or 2001 I think. <3> 1 <14> why don't you compile a kernel....aaa...yes....it's redhat <14> :) <3> zapper: if you don't have anything more meaningful to shay, just shut it.. <3> say too.. <3> nothing that prohibits you from compiling a kernel using RH, but you'd be met with a bunch of incompabilities in the userland tools when moving from 2.4 to 2.6 <3> as the system would require upgrading to such an extent it would be faster to do a complete reinstall <3> and a 7.2 system does require A GREAT DEAL of upgrading.
