Comments:

<0> so far I figured it removed /home/* only.
<0> do you think it starts with /home/user/ by default?
<1> no
<2> yoz: It'll start where you told it to start. At /
<3> Did you type "sudo" in front of it?
<0> PolarWolf: nope as root I wanted to remove something else but hit rm -rf / ;)
<0> lagging ssh connection was the issu.
<3> root
<3> Tsk
<4> yoz: numpty boi
<0> well.. right after I did that.. it complained about .quota which couldn't be removed from /home/
<4> She wrote it down before realising what I'd done to her..
<1> LOL
<4> I also managed to answer our helpdesk phone with "Hello, Helpdesk from Hell, how may we be of disservice to you?"

<0> if it emoved /home but /bin is still there.. :/ I wonder wtf.
<4> Admittedly, I had CLID and knew who it was that was calling.
<2> whyzzyrd: "Hello, you have reached the Helldesk..." ;)
<2> yoz: The reason for that may be because /home is before the other directories, when listed in directory order rather than alphabetically.
<4> She got quite a shock with my seriousness, and managing not to laugh when churning it out.
<2> yoz: I think rm will remove stuff in directory order too.
<2> yoz: You can see what files and directories are in directory order by using ls -U
<0> Tron: I see.. lemme check that.
<2> yoz: Though if /home has disappeared you can't tell now, though it was probably the case.
<0> Tron: ok that saved my arse.. it's home mnt tmp but at home/.quota it stopped
<0> Tron: /home was still there since .quota was in /home which stoppped it
<2> Yeah I gathered that after you typed that.
<5> whyzzyrd: they really shouldn't put geeks on helpdesk-duty
<0> *nod* however it's restored from backups now..
<0> lucky though.
<4> wlfshmn: I wasn't over there on duty, just happened to be there.
<2> wlfshmn: We don't have the temperament for luser support.
<4> wlfshmn: she dared me to answer the phone.
<2> whyzzyrd: 2 minutes later and you were weilding the axe?
<4> no, twas a guy in the CS department that was in my cl***..
<4> wanted to know if a change had been made to the site DNS yet.
<4> I told him his change was unimportant, and likely to happen when hell froze over.
<4> At that point, the helldesk mangler grabbed the call.
<4> To find that Ross was laughing manically.
<2> heh
<2> I appear to have found my way to the office.
<4> Tron: Working Sunday *again*?
<2> whyzzyrd: I had a day off yesterday!
<4> Tron: where in fsck is the PFY?
<4> Tron: $****-job == $PFY's
<2> whyzzyrd: Still not around. I expect he'll possibly turn up tomorrow. Hopefully.
<4> now. I need to pack, and having a computer on doesn't help me with that.
<2> whyzzyrd: *shrug* I promised I'd have two PC's ready for someone on Friday. Friday turned out to be A Really **** Day and I couldn't get ruond to setting 'em up. Seeing as the PFY isn't around that leaves a grand total of Me.
<4> Tron: oh.
<4> Tron: now, 2 PC's. That's oh. 20 minutes work then. Most of that waiting for them to finish their stuff.
<5> Tron: tsk, there you go, making promises instead of vague allusions
<2> whyzzyrd: True, but I have some other ****e I could be doing before Monday hits me.
<5> or it's 6 hours worth of work if there arne't images for the type ;)
<2> wlfshmn: Heheh
<4> Tron: Click, Click, type, click, find mac address, type, click, choose, click, boot machines.
<6> bsd ports...not as bad as emerge...
<6> afternoon all!
<2> whyzzyrd: More a case of *pushpowerbutton *whirr* *setting up XP Pro* *install $lotsofusefullprograms* *IRC* *drink coffee* *IRC* *Zzzzzzz* *wake up* *IRC* *coffee* *IRC* *deploy PC's*
<2> smsie: Greetings
<5> Tron: the kicker is the 500MB of critical patches
<7> too hot even for coffee
<8> wolfie: No, the kicker is that "Microsoft Genuine Advantage" is called a critical patch.
<7> had a nice iced lattey yesterday though
<6> DaveHowe: I never thought I'd live to see the day when you were claiming it wasn't time for coffe
<6> coffee
<3> That's why you have a WSUS box with a nice interface to exclude said patch.
<7> smsie: HOT coffee
<9> dave cant cope with hot cofee he'll live with cold however
<10> ?? help
<7> smsie those cappio things are fine though :)
<6> DaveHowe: yeah, I've run out again though
<6> DaveHowe: went through about 15 of them last week...and they're NOT cheap
<6> DaveHowe: the mini-tesco across the road from work gets like two trays of them a week, which I buy most of
<7> I noticed that, yeah

<9> remembers the coffee ice cream however mmmmmm......
<7> slightly cheaper bought in pairs from asda - work out 1ukp/each
<6> yeah
<6> about 130 each from tesco...
<6> when they get a delivery, I buy 20 quid's worth
<7> 2 for 2ukp in asda
<6> nice
<11> so that GPG mystery with debian's ftpmaster seems to be fixed
<6> "mystery"?
<3> Christ, I hate these new fangled soft plastic coke bottles
<11> yeah, it was complaining about an unknown error that was indeed unknown
<6> and what was it?
<5> PolarWolf: hum? like our 2l bottles?
<11> smsie, no idea, but the debian dev's fixed it :-)
<6> hehe
<6> **** by "make distclean" takes a LONG time
<3> wlfshmn: yeah
<5> PolarWolf: yeah, they are a little annoying in their flimsiness
<5> PolarWolf: you get used to them though ;)
<3> Don't have a choice anyway
<3> Maybe get a coke machine. Water, CO2 and sirup
<5> PolarWolf: We have flimsy 2l bottles, and sturdy PET bottles for 1.5l
<3> wlfshmn: The PET bottles will go away
<3> wlfshmn: To be replaced by the same crappy soft plastic as the 2l ones
<6> PET?
<4> smsie: wikipedia it, it's a type of plastic
<5> PolarWolf: bummer, in way..
<3> wlfshmn: The bottles are slightly wider now too, so they don't ****ing fit into anything anymore :)
<4> smsie: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polyethylene_terephthalate
<5> PolarWolf: ah, goodie ;)
<6> whyzzyrd: hmm, is that significantly different to the 2l bottles then?
<6> it's all plastic to me
<4> smsie: No idea. They're using lots of different plastics now.
<4> smsie: I presume it's largely less plastic, making the bottle less rigid that's the problem.
<6> I always ***umed that was because of the size rather than it was a different plastic
<6> shows how little I know :)
<12> smsie: You should know by now that everything is motivated by money.
<6> true
<12> Night!
<5> PolarWolf: The only annoying thing about the 1.5l bottles here is that the deposition fee for recycling is twice as high on tham as it is on the 2l bottles
<3> wlfshmn: Well, you get that back anyways
<3> Hm, where'd I leave my handy tape measure
<13> i'm trying out ncftp, it's not working for me, lots of errors happening. I don't know if it's because i'm using it within cygwin, or because ti's just full of bugs. what do you guys suggest?
<3> Don't use cygwin, get a win32 native build or just use linux
<3> It only becomes relevant for us in the latter case
<3> And no, ncftp isn't particularly buggy
<7> why are you using ncftp anyhow?
<3> DaveHowe: Because it rawks! :)
<13> i haven't built my linux box yet. But I want to use some useful linux commands. So i'm using cygwin until my box gets built
<7> PolarWolf: agreed. however, not on windows...
<13> so i'll be more prepared for linux. unfortunately, ncftp is not doing its job!
<5> PolarWolf: well, yes, but it's still money I don't have in my wallet
<7> FredPitcher: you could always run up a knoppix cd to practice with
<13> you rad my mind. i have one lying aroudn..
<13> what ftp prog does it use?
<7> should have ncftp on it, iirc
<2> FredPitcher: Knoppix will have ncftp.
<13> cool. i'll find out if it works then ;-)
<13> thanks
<2> Yes. Yes you will.
<3> "prepared for linux"
<3> Hm, interesting concept.
<7> PolarWolf: a laudable goal however
<14> is that the same as "prepared for vista"?
<2> Revenger: No. It's better than that. ;)
<15> preparing for a woman would be beating it then ?
<14> stop talking about women. mine just insisted of having ***.
<14> s/of/on/
<16> :P
<15> give her a toy and tell her to prepare for you
<6> hmm, do I want a mini mac?
<6> or mac mini
<6> whatever they are
<17> sure you do
