<0> smsie :-D <0> rhowe: hows married life? <1> Tron: How did swapping the disks help? <1> cheeksy: Pretty good :) <2> rhowe: But I thought I'd swap the discs into the Lime hardware just to make sure it wasn't a motherboard failure in eniac. <0> rhowe: oh the start! :-p <1> Tron: Ah right <2> rhowe: Turned out the RAM really is b0rk after that, though. <1> Tron: IIRC we wrapped lime in cardboard to try and prevent static problems <2> rhowe: Right now I'm looking for HP-PC-009, according to your chart you set that one up but it's not deployed yet. Bet it's right at the very bottom of the pile of new pc's behind me. <1> Tron: IIRC it was the one you picked out of the pile on Friday which didn't have writing on the back <1> Tron: The pile near the window of set-up PCs <3> <h:commandLink action="#{retailerController.newInstance}"> <2> No that was another machine. Can't remember which one. <1> Ah, that's better. Only 409 unread emails now <3> bah
<2> wlfshmn: It's re***uring to see you do that from time to time ;) <2> wlfshmn: I haven't seen you do that for a while :P <3> Tron: I don't have a much stuff in my pastebuffer theses days, and when I do, it's often multilines, and irssi warns about that ;) <2> rhowe: Putting two networks on the same network card in the temporary firewall was a Really Bad Idea. On Friday the firewall suddenly decided to ban all PC traffic to the servers. At the moment I've changed the dhcp settings back to x.x.0.0 , we can change the PC's back to the 4.0 network after we get the proper firewall box up and running. <4> anybody know of an ftp client with commands like lls and lpwd , besides ncftp? <5> RogerPitcher: stfw, plenty out there. <2> rhowe: Don't ask me WHY the firewall did that, either. Suddenly about half the PC's on the 4.0 network couldn't do ****, and the firewall was happilly logging all the blockage. Even a reboot of the firewall didn't sort it out. <1> Tron: Hm.. not sure how that's the fault of the NIC, but maybe the drivers are weird <1> Tron: Connection tracking, mebbe <5> RogerPitcher: how about... "ftp" ? too obvious? <2> rhowe: Oh, and for some odd reason Gandalf lost its default route on Friday too - that was a bastard :) <2> rhowe: Quick to recover from though. <6> Sounds like a major overhaul of your network infrastructure is in oder <6> err, order <2> PolarWolf: Haha! yeah you could say that :) <1> PolarWolf: What network infrastructure? :) <2> PolarWolf: AT the moment the office network is very Heath Robinson. Lots of gaffer tape and paperclips are involved. <4> Lion-O: I tried ftp on knoppix. it didn't have lls and lpwd. it had lcd though <5> RogerPitcher: rtfm also comes to mind. <6> So fix it :) <2> PolarWolf: We plan to. <6> I bet it takes less time to fix it than to keep patching it back up when it breaks :) <1> PolarWolf: Well, the firewall needs an additional NIC <2> PolarWolf: The box we plan to use as the main firewall came from the old office. We couldn't use that one straight away because it was still being used right up to the very last day the office was occupied. Meanwhile we had to make use of one of the new PC's temporarily as a DSL gateway/firewall, and that's the way it's running until we get to replacing it with the proper box. <1> PolarWolf: Plus, the firewall rules might need a bit of tidying.. other than that, I can't think of much that's wrong. There's a weird MTU problem too, but hopefully that can be sorted by reusing the old firewall box (which didn't have such weird problems) <2> Anyways. <7> Tron: not some sort of IDS going on was there? <2> XyZzY: No. <7> "IDS to firewall. lots of non-normal ip addy's pumping here... Firewall.. whack it, orver" <7> well I would hope it's something normal. hate to think of a nasty stack fault bug or virii on a firewall <8> A man kill his wife with a cumshot <9> is this the new generation of spam drone? <5> Jemand: very unlikely. <10> perhaps the tabloids latest attempt at getting readers:) <5> its romanian, 'nough said. <9> :D <11> can anyone tell me a media player to download for linux ubuntu!? <9> akols_, add the universe repo and get mplayer <5> akols_: whats wrong with the one shipped with ubuntu? <9> or multiverse, forgot which one its on. or get both repositories setup <9> Lion-O, there is none shipped due to license issues with the codecs <5> Jemand: bull. <11> Jemand: mplayer pops an error on compiling <9> akols_, why on earth do you compile stuff on ubuntu? <5> akols_: then it helps to solve the error or, as mentioned, get the binarie. <5> akols_: but once again; what is wrong with the media players shipped with Ubuntu ? <11> I don't know <11> I'm trying to play some mp3's and I can't <5> akols_: rtfm comes to mind then. <5> ofcourse it also helps to know the extend of the "I can't", but its not that trivial to play mp3 stuff on Ubuntu. <9> codecs are not included in Ubuntu's main repository. matter of fact. <5> Jemand: We were talking media players. <9> yeah, but my stomach feels what he means by "media player" <5> Jemand: then get something to eat and stick with the facts. <9> you said we are having BBQ tonight? <11> thanks <11> bye bye <5> Jemand: and by the way, Ubuntu does include certain codecs with their repository <5> Jemand: check their packages section on their website. Now kindly stop spouting fud. <11> I want to ask something more, because I'm a newbie
<5> akols_: anyway, google as well as the ubuntu docs are your friend. <11> what's the difference between all this destributions? <5> akols_: www.distrowatch.org <5> akols_: as to your original question: first hit on google for "ubuntu mp3" gives me this: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RestrictedFormats <5> akols_: next time try taking some effort BEFORE portraing yourself as yet another lazy cluebie. <11> ok <5> and for the record; that URL also backs up my earlier statements and claims regarding "fud, bull****" and the likes. <9> Lion-O, stop farting in my general direction please. i help people with their linux problems since quite a long time and i dont announce in my whois that i am hot for Sun's Solaris. to play MP3 or certain Movies you got to add unofficial repositories. thats all i said. no need to show aggressions. <12> http://blog.wired.com/27BStroke6/?entry_id=1512499 bwahaha <12> Politicians are clueless <5> reality: *nod*, indeed. <9> i can only repeat what i just said. and it makes me sick what guys like Lion-O make of this channel. <12> Jemand: Go **** yourself <12> Seriously <5> Jemand: feel free to leave anytime. <13> okee so now my xorg.conf should be okee .. but whenever i use the "nvidia" driver i get a blank scren <9> reality, trying to score by licking OP ***es? <5> Jemand: perhaps you're mistaking us with #linuxhelp. Thats the channel which holds the **** of every lazy cluebie. <9> Lion-O, thats not my point my friend <12> Jemand: The Restricted Formats post that Lion-O directed akols to lists the repositories for getting mp3 support <5> something which is also SPECIFICLY stated in our channels faq and description. <9> Lion-O, my point was that you accused me of saying false things <5> Jemand: I am not your friend. <5> Jemand: which you did. <9> reality, shut it you *** kisser. <2> Sod it. I'm going home. <6> Hmm, I missed todays moron ejection? <14> :P <15> they made it through turn 1 clean. Then everything went to hell in turn2. <7> fscking bots offlin3 <16> hi, i need to scan recursivly though a dir for a text string within a file <16> can someone give me the sintax please <17> And you're asking for permission or something? <15> DeltaDrone: man grep <16> man is long <15> aw, you poor thing <17> Awww, poor baby... might have to read. <16> ahh, the bloody minded mIRC culture, how i've missed it <17> It's "mIRC culture" to expect you to have two brain cells to rub together? <17> As opposed to giving you a cookie-cutter recipie so the next time you want to do something you can just whine about wanting the syntax for *that*? <7> how in the fsck did avokprv and offlin3 manage to see me login without hitting any channels? is there a compromised host somewhere? <15> XyZzY: they spammed you before you joined any channels? <7> siglite: yes <15> that is interesting. <7> very <7> bbias. compile finished. had to since can't compile nvideo with the gcc 4.0 to 4.1 conversion et-all <6> Interesting observation. "mIRC culture" <6> I seem to miss out on all the fun today <18> =) <17> PW: Apparently expecting people to have a brain is bad. <6> Obviously <6> I guess 'man grep', '/recursive' is too hard <16> yes <15> DeltaDrone: RTFM. Go away. <17> You're expecting it to know what the word "recursive" means when it can't even spell it. <16> it is if you didn't know there was a sintax to look for a text string within a manual page <16> other than piping the output of man to a file and running grep on it <17> DeltaDrone: Awww, poor baby. So you didn't know how to search. Then you fscking well *read* the goddamn thing. <6> DeltaDrone: Learn to use your tools before trying to use them. <16> right, so i can just see, when you were first learning to use unix, you bought a big book, read it from cover to cover, and then tried installing unix <17> Damn straight I did. <16> ok, well thats not a normal thing to do <6> DeltaDrone: Actually, no. I installed the thing and went from there. <17> DeltaDrone: Yes, I can see why you'd think learning wasn't a normal thing. <16> hmm, I question your analytical ability <17> I have no doubt that you do. <16> there is more than one way to learn things <16> in general, unless, its brain surgery, one jumps in and learns as one goes along <6> DeltaDrone: Getting spoonfed is not one of them <16> asking a simple question and hoping someone could help out isnt such a strange expectation <17> DeltaDrone: Except that you have no intent of learnng anything at all, of course. <15> DeltaDrone: and when you do it that way, you have to be prepared for the consequences, such as "I can't figure out how to find a string somewhere in the filesystem." Unfortunately, you've chosen to try and use us as your intellectual crutch. **** that. It's in the man page. Read it. Then leave. <15> or, leave first, then read the man page.
