<0> OK <0> night dude <1> bah.. this game is annoying... Knights o/t old republic constantly crashes on me every now and then <0> I wanna play KOTOR on Xbox <1> kotor2 btw. Anyway, can't even finish 1 level without it crashing (resetting the PC) at least once. <1> makes me wonder why I bothered to get this one legally.. Its b0rk, but also impossible to get your money back. <0> did you check for patches? <2> hello <1> Tamahome: yeah, fully up to date. I've read stories about people with the same problems. Its likely either nvidia related or cache related. (memory leak) <2> with wath program can i configurit a souce <0> a what? <1> Tamahome: still, it does tell me that it finds the CPU a little bit too light 8) <0> Peter: what do you have for CPU? <1> Tamahome: hmm.. amd 1.2 Ghz iirc. Not a very modern one 8) <3> o/~ fat bottom girls you make the rockin' world go 'round o/~
<4> Lion-O: Wow. Is it carved out of stone with an axe? <3> Good Queen choon. <1> Tamahome: its how I usually work... I basicly buy rather modern (but not the newest) hardware, build / upgrade the box and let it rest for a few years untill I need/want something more modern. Then its time to upgrade parts again (video card, nic, memory, etc.). Untill you upgrade the main board and CPU. <0> Peter: that's exactly what I do as well... until last April I had a Celeron 900 for like 3 years <5> lion-o yeah the thing i like doing is collecting iso's of the good games for a few years <5> then when i finally upgrade and can play em i can be all excited about what people have been bored with for 3-4 years running now <5> henceforth...WOW! DIABLO 2 ****ING R))LS J))! <1> Tamahome: *nod*. Hmm, last update has been a while now. iirc that was my videocard and monitor. <1> docfu: hmm :P I usually grab demos and if I'm interested in a game (which doesn't happen very often) I usually try to get the whole game to test before I actually buy it (some exceptions being c&c generals and kotor2 which I bought right away). <5> lion-o oh i hear that <4> I updated last September. <5> i dunno how many games i've bought and returned <5> these days i'm doing the companies a favor if i pirate it and find out i don'te like it ;) <1> lol <6> Lion-O: I used to go eons between upgrades, due to lacking the necessary funds. Now that I have cash, though, I upgrade even less frequently. <6> If I do upgrade, it'll probably be to the Pentium M, or whatever is available along those lines. <1> Nanuq: hehe 8) I'm usually also a little bored with it. Especially the mainboard where you have to study up on all the modern and latest hardware again... I'm not really much of an hardware freak ;) <6> Lion-O: the only annoyance with my P4 2.4GHz system is the bus speed <4> When I upgraded last I had to research everything. So many new technologies came out. <6> Lion-O: I've RAM that'll do 333MHz, but the chipset is only good for 266MHz <5> ok so like <4> PCI Express, SLI, dual core, etc... <5> obviously everyone is in line to kill the ****er who designed the windows registry <5> so where do i join? <0> synapsis: you and me both <6> Lion-O: Some manufs allowed the RAM to be clocked to 333MHz on the i845G, but Asus never did enable that. <6> well, I'd probably go the i855M, for a Pentium M, or i875P, for Pentium M with an adapter <4> So I ended up dumping a chunk of change to get the newest set of technologies so I could upgrade for awhile. <6> AGP is still fine for me. <4> My next upgrade is a second 7800GT for SLI when UT2007 comes out. <4> And a DVD burner that doesn't ****. <7> docfu: 1 light year in -> direction <0> I haven't been a PC game player for awhile, but people brought it to my attention that Oblivion probably wouldn't work with the onboard video on my i915G <5> tamahome i'm going oldschool for a while <0> so I bought a 6600GT on Monday <5> you know...atari emulator <8> i understand that linux wont boot cos MBR is damaged but why the fook wont windows boot <9> Good call, that 6600GT is probably the most cost effective card on the market right now. <0> Cerulean: and the TV out on this thing is amazing <9> That's what I got when I wanted to get WoW to look prettier. :) <0> Cerulean: I'm intending to turn this into a PVR once I get XPMCE <9> Ooo, sweet <7> X1600's looking quite cheap too though. <9> A friend of mind did that, setup a cheap linux box with a ATI All-in-Wonder card <0> people keep telling me the newer ATIs run very hot <9> I haven't heard much about the new X1600/1700/1800 series from ATI <7> Rupesh: because the MBR is damaged... there's a reason it's called the MASTER boot record. <9> Well, the downside to the 6600GT is that it's one of the hottest nVidia cards. <7> I've heard the ATI stuff is currently LOUD, but not hot? <9> I've suspected mine of overheating a few times. <0> is it? <4> Don't they have onboard temp sensors? <0> I haven't actually thrown any 3D stuff at this yet <9> Yeah, I saw a chart of all the ATI/nVidia cards anre the 6600GT was almost the hottest running <9> Yeah <9> I lost the software for mine and couldn't find it on XFX Graphics' site. Why they'd package it with the card but not include it on their site is beyond me. <4> NV drivers (for Windoze) have alarming you can set up so it'll beep after a certain temp. <9> So now I have no idea, hehe
<4> I use nVidia reference drivers on mine. I tossed the XFX software. <9> I need to rebuild my WinXP box anyway, it keeps hard-locking when I play certain games, ever since I got the 24" widescreen LCD from Dell. <0> yeah, running nVidia reference here too <0> Cerulean: I hate you :P <4> For awhile the NV drivers had issues with dual core.. but the latest ones work fine. <9> It's weird, I can play WoW for hours, no problem, but if I play Painkiller or if it sits at the character selection screen for more than 5 minutes, it goes blank and hard-locks. <9> hehehe, it's a gorgeous monitor when it's working. <0> Cerulean: you don't OC, do you? <9> Nope <4> I had problems with the first 80.xx series reference drivers hard locking and just ran 78.xxs for awhile. <0> synapsis: 8x.xx seems to have broken component out for a lot of people (including me)...still even the S-Video out is nice <9> http://www.thermaltakeusa.com/2005/watercooling/cl-w0052TideWater/cl-w0052.htm <9> This is my next upgrade <4> I haven't tried those. All I know is that the VIVO drivers for 64-bit windows don't exist... still. <9> Yeah? I'll have to fiddle with the drivers then, thanks for that headsup <0> VIVO is ATI stuff <4> Video in Video out. <4> Not ATI stuff. <9> Heh, my friend tried WinXP 64-bit and so much of his hardware was unsupported he just gave up. <0> oh you mean the generic term <0> I'm on a P4 @ 3.0GHz <4> I have a huge breakout cable with 2000 plugs on it for video in. <4> Actually *all* of my hardware was supported except the vivo on my 7800GT, and my camcorder. <0> Cerulean: the MS newsgroups for 64-bit XP is *CHOCK FULL* of people who can't get their systems working in 64-bit mode <4> I've been using it for 4 months now. <4> It's the dual core that's my main problem. <9> As far as I can tell, WinXP 64 is still in beta, lol <4> For instance, Thunderbird times out connections all the time unless you change affinity. <10> mplayer in 64bit seems to still be working through some av sync issues <0> yeah, handing a beta to end users is not smart. <4> It actually works great. Much better than Win2k. <0> especially when you don't actually call it a beta <9> yeah? <9> Yeah, that's the worst, heh, I see it in the gaming world all the time. <4> I play games, video editing, web, etc... no glitches. <9> I help beta test games all the time and more than a few times I've gone out and purchased the retail version and I'll find all kinds of bugs that I know got reported 'cause *I* reported them, lol <4> Just dual core race conditions. Which were MUCH worse in Win2k. <0> nice to know they care, eh? :P <9> hehe, uh huh <10> other than mplayer not functioning correctly with 64bit ... debian and all the software i run on it work fine with dual core <0> ED! *hugs* :) <9> Eh, I dunno synapsis, it seems the supported hardware list under XP 64 is pretty small, I think you got lucky for the most part. <4> CeruleanD: Well, I upgraded to a lot of really recent hardware. <9> Despite some complaints, I've had almost zero issues with WinXP Pro <0> scaredy cat :P <5> babalooooo <10> anyways, off to eat. <4> The oldest piece of hardware that requires a driver in my box is my sound card, and Creative has 64 bit drivers. <9> Later safemode <0> this system is the first time I've seen onboard audio that actually kicks *** <5> XP's been fairly stable on this laptop considering i've beaten it like a red headed stepchild <11> whats that <9> lol <11> I still haven't seen onboard audio worth anything <4> I used onboard audio once. Crackled constantly. <0> D-side: the Intel/Realtek onboard <0> oh **** no, I've never heard a crackle <7> D-side: nforce was good, some of the envy24ht was alright <4> I bought an Audigy and just move it from box to box. <9> Whoooa, this is scary, I found that telnet is open on one of our sun systems. *close*close*close* <6> Tamahome: yeah, they've improved on that a lot <6> Tamahome: ALC650 on this board. Pretty clean. <0> but yeah if you want to say traditional onboard audio has usually been ****, I'd agree 110% <0> Eric: I think this is a 650 as well <6> Tamahome: I thought it was the successor <5> tamamhome you can't agree over 100% <0> Jon: shut up :P <5> tamahome i'm doing stupid jokes today <0> you're good at those :P <5> my nephew walked over(who is 2) and grabbed a chair and pushed it out across the floor <5> i said 'take a seat' <0> ah, the terrible twos
