<3> That was added with CoV. If you have a supergroup, you can earn prestige, which can be used by the SG leader or another member with the permissions to build a base.

<3> Badges are pretty much just that - doing various things in the game can earn you a badge of some kind. There are a few hundred different ones - visiting locations, reading history plaques, defeating a number of enemies of one type or another, completing specific missions or task forces, etc.

<3> tavi: Also, I really, REALLY recommend you run through the tutorial the first time you play. You get the option to skip it, but it's a very nice and succinct way of walking you through the basic game mechanics.
