<0> I've had a similar problem to this on Dell machines. all the usb devices will go dead. you can re-plug a device in and see it power for a second or two then go dark. takes a full reboot to reset something. never this severe however. <1> splitty... <1> XyZzY: hrm. Software? Hardware? Bad Wetware? <0> wonder if it's the design for the USB chipset or the ACPI crap <0> Viking667: suspect it's at the MB level or the Chipset. could be a inherent USB controller bug <1> ewwww. That's NOT good. <1> so it's possibly a design fault. Must be rare one too. <2> XyZzY: Via produced a number of pish usb controllers. <0> Viking667: well like I said this is not the first time. The Dells run a Intel board iirc. My server was a AMD ASUS. <0> my server is a 64bit Athlon <3> eep <1> mrmf. You'll love this: I now have two mobos with VIA chipsets... both Apollo family. <3> Cynic: Alive today too are ya? <0> If I had to point a finger I would say design fault in the reference USB chipset <0> the GX270 at work tended to do this stupid trick too more often then not <4> Ahh well, off to bed! Later all!
<5> re <5> Pizbit: in a way <3> Awesome. <3> Want a cookie? <0> ****ing lovely - bet it's related - http://processors.ithub.com/blogs/processor/archive/2006/02/17/6128.aspx <0> looks like the bug is not just PC based either http://www.pbzone.com/usbissues.shtml <0> this is exactly what it did <0> looks like it is directly related to a USB device drawing power from the PC/Mac. Something internal must not automaticly be reset on hard poweroff. must be programaticly changed <1> hrm. Is it related to the amount of current the devices draw? <6> XyZzY: that sound.... interesting. <7> hi all <7> how do i create a mount to a specific drive so that if i restart it will automatically mount that drive everytime? <0> Viking667: nope. I removed all usb devices (figuring that it might be underpowered) no joy there <0> change_: man fstab <7> thank you <0> Viking667: I'm seeing articles that mention the USB-root device shutting off power on excessive power drain. don't think that this is that <8> man 5 fstab, even - otherwise chances are you get the manual page for the C system call. <0> might be a sleep mode going off and not getting properly reset <9> hi <9> I SAID HI <7> dagse <9> it's never this quit <9> ~quiet <0> SSigSeg: HELLO. But, I believe that there is a port to linux <8> Taimur: There is a version of putty for linux, yes, although most linux users tend to prefer their favorite terminal emulator and plain SSH. <20> i like putty very much <20> xD <20> oh i c <17> At least, the windows binaries won't work unless you use a windows binary interface. <20> yeah <17> Taimur: please spell out your words here. <20> waznz: okies <8> Taimur: So does everyone else who needs to use SSH in windows. I use it a lot when I want to stay in touch with online friends while gaming. <8> waznz: There is a linux version. In fact, it's DFSG-free; it's been in the debian archives for ages now. <17> Shadur: *shrug* ... I've never really seen the need for it in linux ... if I want a arrow box-y type thing, I just add an entry into my pdmenu script. <20> :> <8> waznz: Same here. Like I said, I prefer ssh in whatever terminal emulator I use at the time. <16> I used putty for linux once to convert my dsa private keys to a format openssh understands. <17> Maybe I should've used dettol to sterilise the wound first ... <20> :> <17> Ah ... tavi-san ... you managed to lock my Xorg with that tickle :) <18> brb, need some coffee/nicotine/maybe some food <17> Ah ... the white sticky crash <21> hmm, quiet here <17> Hey Lion-O ... sure is <17> Even the kiwis are quiet tonight ...
