<0> dude, I love shaving with a straight razor
<1> synapsis: what do you know about mitsubishi units?
<2> hi there
<0> whyzzyrd: why are you trying to reprogram it?
<3> hi! how i create a director on linux !?
<4> whyzzyrd: A whole lotta nothin.
<4> I use GM OBDI hardware.
<1> Ritalin: more grunt please.
<1> synapsis: Ahh. I expect mitsubishi electric made their own ones.
<5> Ritalin: Hey, I decided to go with an M-Audio MobilePre USB. Mainly because I'll be able to hook up the phone recorder without needing a preamp. Got it for $90. That'll let me get a decent mic too. Plus since it was cheap, I won't feel bad if I upgrade quickly.
<0> whyzzyrd: i think the best way to get more grunt is start with a bigger engine. then make sure it can breathe
<1> Ritalin: I'd quite like to get more power out in the mid-range actually. The engine I have produces 400hp in top-tune, and in my car it's de-rated to 137.
<4> whyzzyrd: Possible. Motorola makes the GM units.
<0> falchion: good deal. $90 is really nothing in the audio industry
<5> Yeah

<1> admittedly, the 400hp version is turbocharged.
<0> whyzzyrd: wat car is this
<0> lancer ?
<3> hi! how i create a director on linux !?
<4> Eclipse GS-T?
<0> 3000gt ?
<4> 3000GT VR4?
<1> Ritalin: I've a galant 2000
<5> Ritalin: I might go for a behringer C1 mic.
<4> They made turbo Galants?
<1> Ritalin: it's a 4G63, like in the Evo.
<5> There's one on ebay for like $38 shipped
<1> synapsis: actually, yes, but not outside japan.
<4> Huh.
<1> synapsis: they did a sort-of Evo engine in a galant, and a 2.0 V6 turbo too.
<0> falchion: how much is it? look at studio projects C1. erm... rode NT1A, oktava mk319. and there's one made by marshall... MXL something. basically any large diagphram mic is what you'd want to go with. the rode and studio projects mics are about $200. but yeah for what you need $38 is pretty good. the oktava can be had for about $75
<6> behringers are good
<1> synapsis: admittedly the evo has a different head, and a turbocharger, but I can't see you getting 263 hp from just a turbo.
<4> whyzzyrd: I can.
<0> whyzzyrd: you don't just put a turbo on a car.
<1> Ritalin: I am perfectly aware of this.
<5> Ritalin: It's supposedly a pretty decent mic. Don't need much for the podcast. Plus, I can always snag my neighbor's Shure mic ;)
<4> But the issue is, where is that hp peak? Supra nerds love to put huge 90mm turbos on their cars so they get 1k HP, but at 8 grand where you can't use it.
<4> And the turbo lag makes them a dog off the line, so they're a 1000 HP 12 second card.
<4> car
<0> falchion: what does your neighbor have? oh.. is that behringer a condensor mic?
<1> synapsis: you sure? I can see you getting a good bit from the proper porting/flowing of the head.
<4> You won't get that much from just head work.
<0> whyzzyrd: is this for the street or strip
<5> Ritalin: I forget th emodel offhand for the Shure. But yes, the behringer is a condensor mic
<5> http://www.selfdefenseproducts.com/lockpicks/jackknife_picks.htm
<6> http://www.behringer.com/C-1/index.cfm?lang=ENG <-- Behringer C1
<5> Oops, ignore that :)
<4> Especially on a later model car. Heads in the 70's flowed like crap. These days they're done in CAD for every bit from the factory.
<5> Tamahome: Google owns :)
<6> yes, yes it does
<0> falchion: which maudio mixer did you end up with
<1> Ritalin: I'd like more grunt for overtaking in standard driving personally, and in a way that's inoffensive.
<5> MobilePre USB. http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/MobilePreUSB-main.html
<6> my G4 has an M-Audio Delta DiO in it
<7> poof
<6> currently unused, though
<1> Ritalin: I expect the right answer for what I want is to replace the 2 litre flat-4 with a 2.5V6, but.
<5> Ritalin: Should be plenty for what I need to get started.
<0> falchion: ok i was worried it didn't have phantom power. surprisingly it does so you're good to go
<5> Of course. WOuldn't have gotten it if it didn't :)
<5> But it does have the 1/8" stereo mic input as well. That's why I got it over the Tascam US-122. I'd have had to purchase a preamp for just the phone adapter.
<0> whyzzyrd: i think that's what you're going to end up with if your idea of power is the same idea as mine. 10-20hp where you are now is about where you will start to notice a difference... and for an engine at 140hp or whatever you said, that'd take a considerable amount of money i would think
<6> damn some of those mics look phallic
<5> I still wish I had a way to record each endof the phone coversation separately.
<5> Tamahome: heh
<8> Falchion, well, get ISDN if you want full duplex
<6> It Still Does Nothing
<5> Liandrin: Or I could just go with Skype :)
<9> Falchion: asterisk can record each end separately
<10> can someone recommend me a mp3 player for x?
<11> nostrings: xmms seems fairly ubiquitous with the linux crowd
<12> i kind of like amarok in kde.
<12> Lozvare: oh?
<5> Lozvare: Nah, I'm not going to install asterisk. Can't be bothered. I'll just use Skype and set my system up to record their end through sklype and my end through my normal mic. I guess.,
<12> i thought asterisk was only able to record zap trunk terminated calls

<5> To be honest, I'm more worried about getting more people to do readings first. Asterisk and all are always options for later on
<0> flachion: remember that no one is going to listen... if they don't listen why would they call?
<5> Ritalin: It isn't for them to call :P
<5> It's for me to do the interviews :P
<4> wtf is this podcast about again?
<5> _I_ call them
<9> D-side: asterisk can record anything you want. not just zap channels
<5> synapsis: For writers to do readings of stuff they've written. Any kind of writing.
<12> Lozvare: i remember when it wouldnt. :)
<9> D-side: That must have been a while ago. :)
<12> Lozvare: far before 1.0.x
<4> So it's your local cawfee shop poetry troop, but online.
<5> Plus, my neighbor and I are thinking of making a stoner podcast called The Rant :)
<12> what method is used now?
<12> Falchion: ooh! original!
<9> My phone system at home has been asterisk for about 9 months
<5> synapsis: Yeah, pretty much.
<5> D-side: Who cares about being original?
<5> Lozvare: My phone system has been vonage for the same.
<1> Ritalin: it's not really a bad package, I expect I'd start to lift the front wheels too much if I added any more than another 10-20 hp at peak.
<7> hey whyz, Falchion, Sean, D-side, Liandrin
<7> synapsis
<4> whyzzyrd: It takes torque to lift wheels, not hp.
<5> Heya nanuq
<1> synapsis: I have enough trouble not spinning them already.
<5> synapsis: I've got a 62 year old lady who likes to travel to europe and the fgormer soviet union alone who has made a journal of experiences she's had. She wants to do a reading ;) hehe all kinds of people out there
<9> D-side: You can explicitly record any channel or you can do "one touch" recording with *1 from the phone
<5> synapsis: In fact, only one person wants to do poetry
<4> whyzzyrd: Then put some suspension on it first. Power is useless unless you hook.
<1> synapsis: this morning, I found the road to work covered in diesel.
<4> whyzzyrd: All my buddies put their cash into motor, I put it into suspension, I won every time.
<1> synapsis: I don't want to spoil the ride any. I want to be able to drive 1000 miles and get out feeling fresh.
<4> whyzzyrd: Adjustable suspension. :)
<1> synapsis: I just want to shave a chunk off 40-90 in 3rd.
<1> synapsis: and more realistically, 40-70
<4> 40-90? What are you p***ing, a convoy?
<1> no, 38 ton trucks
<4> Have you done the typical stuff? Less restrictive intake... exhaust system...etc?
<5> I just add stickers to my Civic. Stickers make you got faster.
<6> hey Eric
<4> Big ones.
<5> I added a new cup holder and got like +4HP
<6> hahahahahah
<7> Falchion: my solution is to take the bus. goes everywhere else.
<6> RICER~
<5> Qunan: Not here :)
<5> Tamahome: heh
<4> I actually got a decent kick from my 4Runner by taking off the catalytic convertor.
<1> exhaust system is factory, and is not what I would call restrictive. It's already much larger bore than you find on most 2L cars.
<4> Ricer. ;)
<1> synapsis: so you would, but I'd fail emissions tests w/out a cat.
<7> Falchion: no I mean, instead of p***ing these vehicles, you just go all the feck around to avoid them
<4> whyzzyrd: Bolt it back on one day a year.
<7> Tamahome: what's new, daddy-o?
<1> synapsis: great PITA.
<6> Eric: not a lot, 'cept I've volunteered to build sets for a shot
<6> errr show
<4> It's only one day a year. :)
<7> Tamahome: well, it is a shot too
<4> I did it on my Camaro, and I had to do two convertors, the AIR system, the lines, etc...
<1> synapsis: heh.
<4> But it made a total difference having them off.
<1> synapsis: The air intake isn't particularly restricted either.
<4> If it's stock, it is.
<4> These days they add chambers to the inlet stream to quiet down the intake, especially on 4 bangers.
<4> A straight tube intake on a 4 banger is loud.
<1> synapsis: it doesn't require vast volumes of air/minute, even at 6krpm.
<4> All those chambers make the air turbulent.
<4> That's the point, you want it to require more air.
