<0> hi :)
<1> sabre: hehe, I can say the same about RH
<2> yep to each their own :)
<2> CentOS is really a nice distro imho
<1> CentOS is the free edition or RH, right? Much like Fedora, but different and a bit more endorsed by RedHat, Inc.?
<2> correct it's RH Enterprise free
<0> enterprise free red hat?
<2> yessir!
<1> one company, three distros... strange world :P

<2> ah they had to go make themselves a little money...hence the fork
<2> fedora is more a desktop distro
<2> anymore that is :)
<3> Windows VM ****s too much, I don't have the patience for it.
<0> Resonator: what problems did you have?
<2> i used to run my netbeans, cvs, and all that jazz on linux and it worked quite well but windows is still just a little bit less complicated
<3> Clackwell: like running a web browser, MP3 player, and Eclipse and switching windows causes 10 seconds of swapping
<3> Shutting down the machine took a good 5 minutes
<1> maybe it was a memory issue?
<0> sabre: what exactly? not the mentioned tools, right?
<1> how much RAM did you have on that machine?
<3> I know that memory upgrade would fix those issues, but I can do far more on Linux with far less waiting around.
<0> Resonator: how much ram? what cpu?
<3> 512 RAM, 1.7GHz Pentium M processor
<2> Clackwell: like windows explorer, wireless internet, etc..the mentioned tools worked fine
<3> Things in Linux are just a little less memory intensive, the VM seems to work much better under load, it's more stable, etc - that's been my mileage anyway. Windows has never been a good development platform from my experience.
<0> Resonator: sounds like a bit bogus to me. i only have 1 gb at work for running vmware for testing alongside the dev tools.
<0> Resonator: the first thing i suspect is eclipse, taking what, 256+ mb for your projects?
<0> sounds like=sounds
<3> Clackwell: it could be that Cisco has heavily modified their install of Windows with all kinds of crap. I know a clean Windows XP Pro install runs pretty well. We're using Windows 2k with all kinds of custom apps installed, I'm sure it's ****ing up a lot of memory unnecessarily.
<3> Clackwell: no, my Eclipse projects aren't that large
<1> 512 MB RAM isn't bad, I use Eclipse on 750MHz laptop with 480 MB RAM and it works just fine, with music player, two IMs, browser, mail client, several terminals etc. opened
<2> of course you have to keep up with windows because there is always noobs...you say the word linux and they **** their pants
<3> Agh, lunch date is here. Catch you guys a little later :)
<2> no doubt linux has superb memory management..I run an asterisk PBX, samba server, web server, and couple other things on a 700 mhz/384 RAM and they all work great
<2> and i'm out to lunch as well hasta
<0> that memory management does not help with memory consumption.
<4> im off
<4> bb all
<5> wow.. I just stumbled across java.util.Properties() which looks very impressive... In short; get a config file (marker = value) and then try: "Properties config = new Properties(); config.load(new FileInputStream("propertyfile")); String mark = config.getProperty(marker);". Cool huh?
<5> I never knew Java already had build-in cl***es which you can use to parse configfiles.
<3> Oh yeah
<5> hmm 8)
<5> Resonator: looking closely at examples and skimming the API docs from time to time can be pretty rewarding :)
<3> Indeed ;)
<5> Resonator: so how is your day/evening/time of day/evening going along? All's well across the big pool I trust?
<3> Ehn, so so.. leaving work early today to drive back home. Great uncle p***ed away yesterday, going to attend the wake tonight, funeral tomorrow. :(
<3> Thankfully my girlfriend is going to join me on the trip, so it shouldn't be too terribly painful.
<5> Resonator: auch, my condolences.. I'm sorry to hear that.

<3> Thank you
<5> Resonator: good company is always a very welcome thing during those dark times :/
<3> I'm OK - I wasn't very close to him. However, my mom is really upset.
<5> yeah, the nasty part of life; at a given time it also ends.
<3> I just hate funerals.. they're SO depressing. I understand that people need closure, but I would think of it as a time to be happy... he'd fought cancer for years, been through so much pain, I'd think that being gone would be a reason for celebration, not a reason for everyone to cry and mourn.
<3> Iono, I guess my perspective on death is different from others'.
<5> hmm :) I tend to agree to a certain degree, the depressive part is absolutely true. So far we always tried to avoid that part in our family.
<3> That's good
<3> I want people to dance at my funeral :)
<5> hehehe
<3> Preferrably not because they're glad I'm gone, lol
<5> ROFL
<5> Resonator: you remind me somewhat of a grandmother of mine. She also p***ed away but the music which was played during her funeral was, according to some distant family, "different". Basicly a rather cheerful Dutch tune about how you'd eventually build your final house consisting of 6 boards.
<3> Ah cool :)
<6> you play music at funerals?
<3> I want dance music played at mine. With a disco ball, strobe lights, and many scantily clad women. *nodnod*
<5> Menno: in Holland, yes. A tune during entrance, then people get to say something, then a tune to let your thoughts dwell on the deceiced (lousy spelling) and then during parture.
<5> hehehe
<7> hi guyz
<7> my question is related wid J2ME..
<7> i have nokia 6630 mobile phone and also got USB connector cable .. I don't have speakers .. can i redirect my sound output of pc to my mobile phone ?
<7> has some1 made such software?
<5> in theory that should be possible.
<6> can't do it with J2ME
<5> hmmm, or not ;)
<7> ah i thought same about possibility
<7> for on thing, I am not acquainted wid J2ME
<7> :)
<3> Java isn't low-level enough to support functionality like that.
<8> could be possible but depends on the Java implementation on the phone pretty much
<3> You would need a low-level audio-over-USB device driver
<3> Don't think java would cut it :)
<3> OK, I'm off to make the trek back home. See you all Monday or somn.
<6> night
<5> Resonator: see you aruond, good luck

<5> *shrug*
<5> One extremist country brings out other extremes in other countries. Hardly surprising.
<2> heh some people just need the knife at the throat to see stuff
<5> sabre: you can't judge a situation only by a snapshot moment.
<5> Just as important are the things leading up to all this.
<5> but anyway, I think this is hardly the place to discuss international politics :P
<2> i was only posting info...didn't really want to discuss it :)
<5> sabre: spoilsport ;)
<9> i need tu use my EJB in jsp how ?
<2> evil arrived in his natural guise
<2> i could tell it was he
<2> bye the cast in his eyes
<2> gnite folks :)
